After watching 3 NFL teams make trades to "upgrade" at the tackle position many (including me) are wondering if Miami will take a look at upgrading this season so our QB can get through in 1 piece. Below are the options I see available to us:
1) Hate that this is the most probable situation, but we stand pat and try to coach them up some. I don't think our OLine is the only fault in our offense, but it is a big part of the problem, especially the tackle positions.
2) The second most likely situation: Juggle guys already on roster. Move John Jerry to RT and slide Nate Gardner into the RG spot. If we don't make a trade this would be my solution.
3) Make a trade for a guy that can come in and start (either RT or LT and slide Martin back to the right side). If we go this route I'd go big or not at all.
Example: Cleveland is stockpiling picks and already dealt their best player. Make a call about Joe Thomas (best LT in game today) and see what it would take. He is still young and I'd be willing to give up 1st rounder next season (hopefully in the 20's or lower anyway) for a guy that would solidify the line for this year and the next. I'd even be willing to look at a pick plus Solai or Odrick (we can't trade Starks since he is franchised) to sweeten the pot.
To me if we don't get better up front we aren't going to end the year with our current QB.
What does everyone else feel? Am I over-reacting or do you feel the same? What would you give up for a guy like Joe Thomas?
