It can be said that The Dolphins, The Phinsider, & The DCC ( Dolphins Cycling Challenge ) have all changed me. I have always enjoyed more than anything cheering on the Dolphins live & in person. This started almost 30 years ago. If they where around home, I found my way to the game. In the early years I struggled many a time trying to find another fan to go with. So I simple converted my girlfriend or Wife as a means to an end. Then I found the Toledo Fan Club which made things much easier.
Now,....its too easy to form a group or join in with an existing one. 7 years ago my Wife & started working as "traveling" healthcare professionals. It was my love of football and the Miami Dolphins that influenced me to come to Florida for that first Winter away from home. Since then we haven't looked back. And 7 years ago I started doing what I always did at games,....taking pictures.
I joined The Phinsider in 2008 as a way the share the fan experience with others not so much in Miami, but those out of market fans such as myself. Now I am flirting with almost 400 posts ( all fluff ), in which many of them are picture driven. I can't thank you enough for all the positive feedback I've received time & time again. Without The Phinsider there is no OFF4L. It was The members here that recognized me as the "boldest" fan, hence helping win a contest that came with a trip to Indy for Superbowl weekend. That contest in reality was in short essay format, and I simple answered the questions with short stories of some of my past adventures. With the last question being something about how does my "boldness" motivate other fans. Here I talked about my 1st DCC and how I bought my bike 6 months or so before the event and rode the 2 day 170 mile route. And,....that strangers I've never met, from this little blog, led in my fundraising efforts. Amazing stuff truly it is. So I did it a second time and again The Phinsiders made a huge difference.
Every year when the Wife & I come back to Florida I tell her as we approach the stadium for our first game back,..."this never gets old". I truly love the whole game day experience. However, as much as I love the Dolphins, I love helping others more. In my career as a therapist I spend my days propping others up both emotional & physically. This is something I do gladly and the personal gratitude I fell is immense. So really my participation in The DCC is just a natural progression of my desire to help others,.... pay it forward if you will.
Cancer has taken my Uncle, ending his life way too soon. He was an inspiration to me, and a man with great wisdom. He was very pivotal in helping me sort through some personal issues from the past. And the sad part is he isn't around to see how well this story has played out. I have piece of mind knowing he would be happy with the outcome. That is just part of my story, and sadly far too many people have their own story of loved ones lost. So it wasn't long after the announcement of DCC VI I again enrolled.
Now here I have a question,....who mentioned that I should go all "beast mode" when I did my 1st DCC ? That slogan has been stuck in my head for almost 3 years now,.....thanks alot ! Go big, or go home,....right ??? Now it's a 1300 mile drive from Toledo to Ft Lauderdale, however in the last 5 months or so I've riden my bike 3,300 mile in 200 hours while climbing just shy of 90,000 ft. In cycling circles this is no big deal, but to me this is "beast mode",....or "dedicated", which was on The DCC III jersey. For those into stats, go check out my Strava profile. The numbers don't lie. Speaking of numbers, what about $1 from 10,000 Dolphins fans. This idea may be nothing more than an unrealistic fantasy, but great things can rise from small beginnings. And as Don Shula once said "I dont know any other way to lead but by example". So please, if you can donate a dollar, maybe a fiver. It all adds up, and it all helps. And with that know that I will continue to represent The Phinsider the best way I can. BEAST MODE !http://ridedcc.racepartner.com/DCC2013/Ohiofinfan4life I thank you for your consideration. OFF4L
