Since the beginning of the season the naysayers and pundits have been just waiting for a game so they could start their told you so BS. Did they all expect us to go undefeated, come on. It was a bump in the road, a character building game, and for me, a game that brought them back down to earth.
When we looked at this year’s schedule, people thought that 2-3 would have been a fantastic start. The possibility of 4-1 is mind blowing and 3-2 would be successful. Look, this young team, which has not played together long, ran into, national media Monday Night Football, on the road, against a team that won the Super Bowl just a few years ago. Did they play bad, yes, but was it really that bad, they moved the ball at will, the run game was working finally, the pass game looked good till the Wallace Drop, the same call we run 8 times a game, that double slant that I am sure 90 percent of the people who know the game was sure was going to happen sooner or later, and then it just fell apart, the Wallace stop on the route, the Tanny fumble because he is running for his life. Are there things to fix, absolutely, but you don’t throw the baby out with the bath water.
This is the true test week for this team. What kind of character do they have? Do they fold up like a house of cards that we have seen every year for the past 10 year or so, or do they come out pissed off at the world and make a statement! That is what we should be looking for.
If they come home and get beat by Baltimore badly and don’t show fight and grit and just throw in the towel, then we have to start saying the same ole same ole, but until that happens, lets fight alongside them, cheer them on. I am a Tannyhill Believer, I like the kid and knowing he has potential to grow only makes me more excited for this team. I like the Wallace Factor, I like the WR core and now am getting a little more on board with the running game. On Defense, when we were healthy we dominated with a good rush and good coverage. A lot of Monday Nights debacle has to fall on Croyle, bad game planning, it was like he had never watched a tape of NO play. Linebackers in the A gaps, screaming to Brees to throw in the flats and kill us. And that he did. So is there learning still to go, absolutely, but the more important part is, how are they going to respond, like a frightened turtle or a caged poked tiger. Me, I am hoping for the tiger.
