Let me start by saying I do not watch college football and do not claim to know a great prospect when I see one. That said, I saw a few mock drafts on the internet that have us taking WR Cordarelle Patterson (Tennessee) or WR Keenan Allen (California). Wide reciever is obviously a need, so I could not object to what these mock drafts were suggesting. The only issue I had with hearing about us using the 12th overall pick on either of these guys is the all the talk that neither is worthy of being taken so high.
I just watched Cordarelle Patterson and Keenan Allen highlights from this past college season, which inspired me to write this post. Ireland, please draft Cordarelle Patterson. This guy is explosive. In every highlight on this video, he seems to be the fastest guy on the field. His YAC is very impressive. He is constantly making defender after defender miss. He plays agressively and goes up for the ball.
| CAREER STATS | RECEIVING | RUSHING | ||||||||
| SEASON | REC | YDS | AVG | LNG | TD | ATT | YDS | AVG | LNG | TD |
| 2012 | 46 | 778 | 16.9 | 58 | 5 | 25 | 308 | 12.3 | 67 | 3 |
As you can see above in these stats, Patterson is versatile. He caught passes and ran the ball out of the backfield a little over two carries per game. In the highlights below, you will see him lined up as receiver, running back, kick returner, and punt returner (all of which he made plays at). They used him on end-arounds, due to his blazing speed. He is versatile, indeed. From what I understand, you just don't take a guy this high in the draft not of the calibur of an Andre or Calvin Johnson, but take a look for youselves and tell me if you're seeing what I'm seeing. I do realize these are highlights and may not reflect Patterson as a player on a regular basis, but you have to like what you see from this outstanding college wide receiver.
Check out the video and let me know what you guys think!
