With the NFL season down to just two teams standing, the NFL draft order is almost completely set, which makes for a perfect time to update a mock draft. That's just what SB Nation's Mocking the Draft did last night, posting a new mock draft with Dan Kadar and Matthew Fairburn alternating picks.
While the top of the board sees what is becoming the consensus number one pick, tackle Luke Joeckel from Texas A&M, going to the Kansas City Chiefs, Fairburn, who made the even picks, differs from several of the other mock drafts around the internet with the second pick. While some of the mocks have no quarterbacks in the first round at all right now, Fairburn has the Jacksonville Jaguars selecting West Virginia QB Geno Smith.
As for the Miami Dolphins' pick, Fairburn again bucks the trend, with Miami not taking a wide receiver at the twelfth spot. Instead, he has the Dolphins selecting Oregon defensive end Dion Jordan. About the pick, Fairburn writes:
"The Dolphins have been linked to wide receivers so far in the pre-draft process. With Brian Hartline as the team's best weapon in the passing game, young quarterback Ryan Tannehill clearly needs more to work with."But Dion Jordan is a big time talent that doesn't normally make it out of the top 10 picks. His shoulder injury will cause him to slide, but Jordan has a combination of pass rush and cover skills that NFL teams will love."
It really appears the Dolphins' draft target in the first round is splitting the mock drafts. California wide receiver Keenan Allen still appears to be the favorite, but the number of defensive ends being taken by Miami is increasing each week.
