After watching the game today I want to say a few things from what I saw. I also will take a view that automatically doesn't say that we will go 0-16.
First off, Reggie Bush is going to have a monster year. He looked fast, elusive, and determined to do everything he could to move the ball. If Reggie gets enough touches he could lead the league in yards rushing and total yards.(Also Daniel Thomas got hurt and never returned.)
Secondly, Our defense looked very stout against the run (as usual) and we seemed to have our way with one of the top offenses in the league.
Thirdly, it was nice to see Hartline back on the field as well as Dansby, and Long who looked good except for 2 penalties). It was also great to see Fasano not dropping passes. He was putting forth quite an effort.
But now its time for that awkward discussion where everyone goes quiet like daddy hit mommy at the dinner table and we are still all trying to eat.
Has our coaching staff not acknowledged that balls are being batted at the line consistently? This is strictly a coaching issue that should have been addressed in the preseason as it was happening then too! I understand a batted ball here or there, but this was seeming to happen every series and a huge reason we lost today. When Houston wasn't getting great field position they looked average at best, but when we are giving it to them at the 25 multiple times from inexcusable turnovers, any team could score that much.
Next, I will say our receivers look on paper exactly how they played in this game, abysmal! Hartline looked determined to make plays on his opportunities and so did Devon Bess. However did any other receiver even have their name mentioned? Is Nenae even on the Dolphins?
The last crituque I will say is that our defense once again can not cover a tight end to save their lives. They also couldn't cover the slant pattern either. How many times did anyone say on a third down,"it's going to the tight end over the middle!!!!" I knew it was coming and the dolphins obviously didn't.
However, I won't say all is lost from this game and the season is over. We went up against a supposed super bowl contender and looked good except for the 6 minute window in the 2nd quarter. The tipped passes can be fixed and our defense will get better as Dansby and Burnett get in better shape. Tannehill didn't look overwhelmed and could just be that QB we have been searching for! Next week we have the Raiders, which I think will give us a better idea to how we should play this year.
