The Good, The Bad, and The Really Ugly

First off, I want to criticize the NFL network. This is the second Dolphins' preseason game I've watched where they just skipped an entire drive. Granted, they were both 3 and outs by the Dolphins, but I wanted to see them. Plus, it makes it confusing when the Dolphins receive a kickoff, they go to commercial, come back and the other team has the ball. Get your act together NFL network.

Speaking of getting their act together. The Dolphins may want to try that. These preseason games aren't inspiring a lot of confidence. I'm trying to see the positive in this, but it is pretty hard to spin this ineptitude into something positive. Here's what I saw...

The Good

The return game seems to be decent. I thought Thigpen flashed a little and so did Mathews last game. Hopefully, we can keep one of those guys. I'm voting Thigpen.

Tannehill doesn't look overwhelmed. Both him and Moore seem to have the ability to keep a play alive.

The tight ends (Fasano and Clay) seem to be playing well and are fairly reliable.

The Bad

The receivers. They don't seem to be getting a lot of separation or have very good hands. I do notice though that they seem to sub a lot of guys in and out. They haven't really established the two or three core guys. I'm not sure if it is because they don't have them or they are trying to get some of the other guys playing time with the starters.

The running game. They just aren't producing. I think some of this is the same problem as the receivers. They are rotating everyone in and not getting into any rhythm with one or two guys.

The OL. They need to step it up both in run and pass blocking.

The secondary. They are still giving up 3rd down plays.

The Really Ugly

The backup OL was terrible. I'm not sure if they were trying to show Tannehill what it's like to have no protection, but they were just letting guys run at him in the 2nd quarter.

Overall, the team looks bad, but some of it seems like a lack of planning or trying to audition too many players in the game. I think they need to pick the starters and let those guys gel. The team has some flashes of good things, but they don't seem to have any rhythm or consistency. I don't know if they will game plan for next week, but it would be nice to at least get a glimpse of what the opening day team is supposed to look like. And... Hopefully, this woeful mess isn't it.
