Former Miami Dolphins linebacker Jesse Powell passed away Thursday. The 65-year old died at the University Medical Center in Lubbock Texas, Texas Tech's teaching hospital.
No cause of death has been given.
Powell joined the Dolphins in 1969 after being selected in the 9th round of the NFL Draft out of West Texas State University (now West Texas A&M). Powell's career was cut short when a knee injury three games into the 1973 season sidelined him for the year. He appeared in 56 games with the Dolphins, and was a member of the 1972 Perfect Season, as the Dolphins won Super Bowl VII.
After leaving the game, Powell worked as an insurance agent in Lubbock.
