Omar and the twitter world are talking contracts extensionsfor Jake Long and Cameron Wake. Long is expecting a contract in the range of $12 mil a year for 5+ years and Wake is expecting $10 mil a year for 5 years. Between those 2 players that's about 20% of the salary cap and structure the deal any way you want but you got to pay the salary cap sooner or later. If we push it out into the future we'll have no cap space when Tannehill is hitting his prime
If we're to conclude that the future of this team lies with Tannehill going forward then lets clean the slate of salary cap issues and start building fresh. I'm pretty sure we would have no problem dealing Long and Wake for 1st rounders. Leaving us with a couple of holes but that's what rebuilding is all about. Next year we would be going into the draft with 3 first round picks to bring cheap impact players. We would also have $20+ million in cap space to resign players currently on the roster. I really believe that there are few players worth $10+ million a year when the total salary cap for all 53 is $120 million.
We can replace Long by making Martin the LT and Murtha the RT.
Can't really replace Wake but we have lots of young players we can try out.
