Seriously WHY NOT do the show?
Sure there will be some cons that come with the deal and yeah chances are Miami will continue the streak of teams that go on the show and don't make it to the Superbowl - But lets be real do you really expect the Dolphins to be in the Superbowl anyhow. By no means is this a make it or break it year for the Dolphins, actually it's quite the opposite, its more of a "learning process" year in which this coaching staff & front office will probably get a stay of execution no matter how the season plays out (barring an 0-16 season that is).
So with the football side of things relatively "safe" (as far as jobs and what not) why not take a chance on the business side of things? After all, FOOTBALL = ENTERTAINMENT BUSINESS no matter how bad the purist try to separate the two. So why not give the fans what they want? Why not put out a trailer and then leave it up to the fans to go see the movie. What do they have to lose?
Oh........... that's right..... the Dolphins might not be able to sell tickets to their games. Or the local media might treat them like a punching bag. Better yet what if it all goes bad and they lose their hold on the local sport scene? I can't stomach the idea of every major sports media network speaking about the Dolphins as if they were nothing more than a bunch of clowns blowing up balloon animals for snot nosed children- oh the horror.
Well I hate to be the one to burst your bubble but that is what is happening and if it hasn't happened yet that is were it's heading. And I get it, only WINS will recapture the love of a city and I agree 100%, but I say if your going to go down why not go down swinging? You never know you might get lucky and land a haymaker.
So regardless of who likes it and who doesn't, doing this show now is a low risk high reward business move that could lead to some positive football reactions and I say job well done to whomever pulled the trigger to get this done.
