The Miami Dolphins have put their first player in the NFL Top 100 Players of 2012, with left tackle Jake Long being ranked as the 59th player in the league. The 2012 ranking for Long fell 31 spots from his 2011 ranking, but in a year in which Long missed two games, and was still named to his fourth straight Pro Bowl - in four years in the league.
With the injuries, and a comparatively down year by his normal standards, Long still ranked 23 positions higher than the Cleveland Browns' left tackle Joe Thomas. Long and Thomas are usually the two tackles mentioned as the best in the game.
The 2012 NFL Top 100 Players of the Year is voted upon by the NFL players, ranking the 100 best players, regardless of position, in the league. The NFL started this concept last year.
