If not now now, WHEN?? (Ryan Tannenill.)

"Ryan Tannehill is the future of the Miami Dolphin franchise." these words have been debated throughout the week with no discernible conclusion to its validity, and truthfully we wont know for a year or two. Nevertheless, those that admonish the pick and call it a reach, are simply not paying attention to the the situation.

Ryan Tannehill is a QB that was raised in the west coast offense, his knowledge of of all the route concepts and read progression dwarfs that of the other QB's on the squad; Tannehill also played receiver in this scheme, giving him a great understanding of route breaks and timing. Forget the bottom line for a second and consider the possibilities of having a ROOKIE in camp with that kind of knowledge. Tannehill will be heading up QB meetings, teaching receivers the correct depths in routes, having a huge influence in the installment of this foreign offense. Perhaps he wont play his rookie year, but he will establish himself as a leader, as a person who players turn to for advice, as a QB. We can all speculate what he will or will not be year one, but its obvious that the organization picked Tannehill knowing that he could establish a leadership role immediately, and that is invaluable.

I can argue with you at nauseam the value of the player, arm strength, size, youth, athleticism, and those who are against the pick would simply counter with, inexperience, no history of winning, converted wide receiver; and truthfully all point have their merit. Nevertheless, the situation in Miami is unique, Tannehill is not starting over in a new offense he is simply graduating to a new playing field armed with familiarity and the rare possibility of growth within a system.

For me it all makes sense, the front office had some foresight and positioned themselves to get a gifted athlete with all the tools to succeed at the next level then proceeded to arm the kid with all the resources needed to develop. Is it a risk, SURE IT IS, all QB picks are risks, but the risk has been greatly minimized by the favorable situation that has been established.

So I ask all you Dolphin fans, If not now, when?? When will the Dolphins try to get their franchise QB?? What is it that you want?? Matt Barkley, undersized, weak arm, wont be there when we pick Barkley?? How about Landry Jones, spread offense, not as good as Bradford, wont be their when we pick Jones. How about free agency?? we all know that good QB's dont hit the free agency market unless injured, aging, or both, and even if they did, they wouldn't come play for the Dolphins, i.e. Manning. This was our window to get a potential superstar at the position, this was the situation, this was the pick. This pick is risky, but calculated and necessary.
