I have avoided posting, commenting and am now considering not even reading the fanposts around here in the last week. And by people who apparently are coming out of the woodwork all of the sudden.
What is all the gripe and angst about? Seriously? Fire Ireland? Are you people kidding me? From my perspective things are not as bad as it seems.
So far this off-season we have
A) "Missed out on Peyton Manning". Yes, all the pundits had us as the favorites, aren't these the same guys we bust on for being just as clueless as the fans? Manning signed in Denver for a 90 mil plus contract...Yeah we could have swung that. (Sarcasm) You really can't say that it had nothing to do with the money. Besides Manning would want to do things Manning's way and we have a brand new HC who is working to install his own system. A man who comes from a very good football system, and is well respected for his football intelligence in his own right. So should we really be pissed about this? From where I sit, NO. It wasn't the right fit. We didn't have the money and we were not in a position to give Manning control of a the team.
B) Traded Brandon Marshall. Yes, was he our most potent offensive weapon, was he also a locker room cancer and immediately a detriment to any developing QB, yes. And the news now that we were going to cut him anyway unless we traded him makes me thankful for two 3rd round picks. That and NO ONE was returning our phone calls about trading for him. Telling isn't it? And with the possibility of a suspension due to more of the field troubles I feel we may have dodged a bullet.
C) We missed on Matt Flynn...um no, no we didn't. If Philbin thought he was "the guy" he would have been here. Ross and Ireland are giving Philbin the reigns so it seems. If Philbin didn't trust Matt Flynn to be the Franchise QB that was linked to his career then you can not be upset about this. Philbin knows Flynn in and out. If Philbin isn't comfortable linking his career to Flynn then I am not confident in paying him starter money either.
D) We acquired David Garrard. Is he the greatest thing since sliced bread, no. However if it is evident we are drafting a QB weather it be Tannehill, Cousins, or Weadon then having Moore, and Garrard there next year is a good idea. Because as it stands right this second we have what? Moore and Devlin. Are you comfortable with Devlin starting if Moore gets hurt? Not me. Solid one year back-up.
E) Cut Y.Bell. Ok, this one saddened me too. But he is getting up there in age and was being paid a gregarious amount in comparison to the production we are receiving in return. Not mention if there is one fact we do know about our new DC is that he is a maestro of defensive backs. Look at the sub-par talent in Cincinnati's secondary that he turned to gold. Is it an emotional loss for the fans yes, but is it the worlds largest football loss, I don't think so.
F) So we signed a couple back ups and situational players....woopy...did we need them, YES.
So in conclusion, hold onto your Fireland signs and be patient. We have a new Head Coach who values the draft and not free agency. Let's see if he can influence Ireland and steer the ship in the right direction before we start having a cow out there. And on that note, we should stop bashing each other. We are all Dolphins fans, good, bad or ugly we are all here to stay.
