I tried to keep an open mind... I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt... I tried to tell myself that they have experts... I tried to tell myself Philbin must know something that I don't.
So from now on I am strictly judgeging Ireland by one thing!!!
As you all probably agree Miami's biggest weakness over the past decade is at QB. And here comes Matt Flynn out of Green Bay posting record numbers on his one outing last year. I saw the game... He was fighting against a good Detroit team that really wanted to win. He put up 6 TD's and 480 yards against the Detroit defense. You look at that and you've got to say to this guy has huge potential to be an NFL franchise QB.
Some might say that Detroit's defense is not that good. Some might say that lots of those yards were yards after the catch. Some might say that they broke tackles to make those touchdowns. But you can say the same about any QB in any game. The fact is he played lights out in the end of the game to win it in the last few minutes.
Ireland decided that Paul Solia was worth 6 million dollars a year. For a part time player that's stuffs up the middle of the defensive line on running downs.
Ireland decided that Matt Flynn was NOT worth 8.6 million dollars a year. For the most important player on the team that has shown flashes of being a franchise QB in the NFL.
What the hell is he thinking... If Matt Flynn turns out to be a franchise QB it will be the single biggest mistake in franchise history. Bigger than passing on Drew Breese because at least he had injury concerns.
