Well a lot of panic is setting in… And I can see why. It’s not fun to see your team, the team that for some reason puts us in good or bad moods even though we have nothing to do with them, struggle to bring in players or personnel to help make them better. It sucks… we didn’t see Harbaugh come in and heard reports Peyton Manning didn’t want to play for the Dolphins organization. Then they swung out on Matt Flynn… and desperately struggling to land Alex Smith. So my one question is… why has this team gone down hill… it’s a new head coach, so it can’t be him… Could it be the owner… or Jeff Ireland… the only 2 pieces held over from the Parcell regime? Any way that’s not what this post is about.
It’s about the QB for the Miami Dolphins… yea Manning would have been amazing, but was it realistic? I don’t think so… Matt Flynn was an option and a real possibility based on the Philbin connection… but they didn’t seem to want to give him the money he wants. And I am actually fine with that, because that tells me they weren’t confident he could be the guy… the franchise guy to finally give us stability at the position since #13 graced the field. Philbin should know how Flynn can play and if he didn’t want to pull the trigger than it may not be such a loss.
My eyes have been set on Tannehill since the beginning… I like the way he plays and love his athleticism. He knows Sherman’s system and will have a step on other QB’s because of that… something Alex Smith will not… and if signed this would be like Smith’s 7th playbook in 8 years. Ok so people are freaking about drafting him at 8 and think they should trade down. Well if this offseason has proved anything to you, it’s that nothing for the Fins is a done deal. Trading down only works if there’s a suitor on the other end and trading down is not as simple as you think. Plus depending on his pro day Tannehill has steadily moved up draft boards and many feel he won’t make it out of the top 10… Some think he might go before the Fins 8th pick… so despite what everyone thinks… I say grab him at 8!
He’s not worth it; they shouldn’t over draft for need… blah blah blah. Yes I agree he is raw, yes I agree he may not be worth the 8th at this moment, but to me it’s what he can be. If he can be the QB of the future and be the franchise QB did I take him at 8! Trading down would be great, but he is the last resort at a possible upgrade at QB… and if he is not there when the pick comes up again, we as fans will be looking at Garrard as our savior. I have a good feeling about Tannehill, because he knows Shermans system and that’s the biggest hill for a young QB to climb.
So my thought now… don’t use the money on Alex Smith… use it on Wimbley… Draft Tannehill and with the 2nd and two 3rds draft an OL and a few WR’s…
Go ahead blast away.
