Can’t we see the positive… ok I was shocked Marshall was traded, but got over it and realized this is a new year where the team isn’t going to deal with Drama… plus trading Marshall means the offense that will be run is going to be similar to Green Bay with several WR not one Alpha Male. I think Clay is going to Blossom under this offense as well and I think it’s great to have Reggie Bush as a great pass catcher in the backfield.
Ok so where do we stand on needs? QB, OL, DE… I wasn’t completely confident in Flynn’s ability and saw flashes of Scott Mitchell or more recently AJ Feely or Kevin Kobb. But with Philbin at the helm, I feel that he should have a good understanding of what he can do and won’t ask Flynn to play above his level or do more than he should too quick. So I am starting to lean closer to wanting Flynn as the QB…. If they don’t get Flynn, Tannehill is the only other possibility, in my opinion. Just like Flynn, he’ll have a familiarity with the play book and be able to just play and not think too much of what he should do. Ideally #8 is high to draft him, but I think the Fins will lose him by trading down.
DE is a need, but I would much rather sign Kameron Wimbley (who is projected to be released soon) over drafting a DE. Also think that in the 4-3 Odrick can hold down the LE spot… and may draft a pass rush specialist for passing downs. So I think the Fins are sitting pretty and this is how I would draft this April… keep in mind that this is only if Flynn is signed and Eric Winston is not signed.
1st: Riley Reiff
2nd: WR (I like Sanu, Toon or Hill here)
3rd: Bruce Irvin DE (Pass rush Specialist)
3rd: WR (just get another raw talent to fill depth)
4th-7th: The best player available
Its not going to happen and people are going to complain about my theories… but as a football coach I know it will work… I know it won’t make the Fins an elite team in 12, but better than 11, and will help them build for the future.
