More than likely.

This has turned into a war of words. It is now an inevitability that he will be let go and with this “story” coming out, sounds like it will be much sooner than later.

Somebody let me know when this boat rocks into Miami's shores

He can play, he can’t play / he’ll be cut, he won’t be cut / he likes the Dolphins, he wants to stay a Colt / He’s Peyton Manning, he’s Chad Pennington…etc etc etc….

Manning is the game’s greatest ambassador. He is one of the faces of the league. He has earned that distinction both on the field and off. He deserves to play if he’s healthy and if he can still sling it. I hope, for his sake and his fans, that he can still sling it.

I dont care what a couple of Peyton’s “closest confidants” leaked to the press about his having a noodle arm. All this shit will get sorted out by experts when the time comes…and I have a feeling that if Peyton can’t throw the ball well…he himself will bring that up to teams before he allows them to start salivating over him in free agency.

Again: Miami needs to look to its future and get a QB that will be successful for the next decade or more. Even healthy, Manning was only a stopgap and one with NO guarantee of success. He has ONE Superbowl ring in a long career. Assuming he’d come to Miami after a neck surgery and a year off and get 3 more rings is simply ludicrous.

Best to Peyton and his family. I’ll root for him if he ever becomes a Dolphin. Til then…this is drama – and in point of fact – it is drama that is beneath Peyton. It should be beneath all of us. Lets all of us Fins fans just let it play out over there in Indy before we continue to beat this subject to death here on this Dolphins site.

It is not ludicrous to think a healthy Manning plus Miami's defense will bring a Super Bowl berth.

Yes, he is a stopgap, but a potent one.

More of Moore in 2012!

Right. It is ludicrous to assume it, which is what I said

Saying that you’re “thinking it will bring a Superbowl berth” at least concedes that you realize its a long shot.

“Assuming it” means you expect a Superbowl, and its not guaranteed.

If he came to Miami, i’d obviously root for him. But honestly, it’ll sting if Flynn goes elsewhere and has a great career and we’re looking for a QB again after all these years and have nothing to show for it but Peyton’s final games under center.

I’ve seen plenty of Colt playoff games where – respectfully, but honestly – Manning was not enough to get their supposedly “great” team a victory. There’s just no way we’re getting Manning at his peak. We’re better off going with a young guy.

In any event, with this post, i’m just going to wait and see how the off season starts shaping up before I debate this issue any further. I honestly think the fans are too forgetful of the past and too anxious to sign anyone (And overestimate anyone) that they think is a savior. Too many rose colored glasses, I think.

And how would you feel if Flynn flames out here

while Peyton Manning(a known quantity) does what everyone knows he can do when he is healthy and takes a team to 3 or 4 Super Bowls? Flynn is a bigger risk in my opinion, because you know he is a good backup… but what else do you really know about him? The only question with Manning is … is he healthy? Can he get back to Hall of Fame caliber, or at least Pro Bowl caliber?

We had [Brady] down… but we didn’t kick him. We helped him up and gave him a PowerPuff Girls band-aid for his knee. What exactly did you expect would happen when we did that?

by Jason Scott_90 on Feb 8, 2012 10:45 PM EST up reply actions

Reversing the argument? Really? LOL

He aint going to no 3 or 4 Superbowls. With any team. No way.

He's getting old but

The second you took Manning away from the Colts what happens???
They couldn’t win, Payton is a winner. There o-line looked pretty bad too, mixed with a below average running game. I think Payton can come in here and the phins can have a top AFC team for a few years. Flynn cannot do what Payton can do for us, Payton is a defensive decoder at the line, that is why every colt around him has looked good for there career.

I left my personal views out I want to move up the draft and get our qb. i would trade 3 years of #1 for Luck. We don’t draft good in the 1st round (pre Ireland) with Ireland we have made safe picks in the 1St round.

by Canadianphin on Feb 9, 2012 10:53 AM EST up reply actions

He is a stopgap to help us win a couple of Super Bowls

before we can find a franchise QB… So we put the hunt on hold for a couple of years… or let a franchise QB develop behind him … that is how the good teams do things… right?

Which QB are we grooming then?

While we’re winning all these Superbowls with Manning?

We're not even a playoff team and you have us going to "3 or 4 Superbowls" with Manning, who is 36 years old.

In order to accomplish that, he’d have to take Miami to each of the next 4 Superbowls in every likelihood. Look at it realistically, man!

I don't care

if he has a peg leg, Peyton Manning is still the smartest QB in the league, he will adjust if there is any diminished arm strength….he’d still likely be a huge improvement over what we’ve had since Dan retired.

by Blue or CONKZILLA on Feb 8, 2012 11:01 PM EST up reply actions

Marino was pretty smart too, when he got drummed out

But there was no question that his skills had declined somewhat. He just wasn’t as effective from game to game. Granted, he needed a better team around him…but with that said, if a guy like Manning needs a better team around him too, because he cant carry one on his own, then why not go younger NOW and be set for the next decade?

chad pennington

is a great example of what peyton can do for us. I am sure peyton has a stronger arm still and has a higher football IQ and is less likely to get hurt. If Penny can get us to the playoffs, I have to assume that Peyton with a better team around him could easliy elevate us to superbowl contention.

Manning reminds me a lot of Pennington, I hope we get the same results, but for a longer period of time

It would suck if they drafted foles(who reminds me of henne). I would hope we don’t end up with the same results.

I don't fully agree on the Manning to Pennington comparison.

Pretty much solely because even if Manning’s arm is not fully healed and he is building up the arm strength in it, it’s still stronger than Pennington’s arm was. Manning is just as deadly accurate as Pennington and is a better leader on the field than Pennington was. Hopefully we have even better results than we did with Pennington, especially since our schedule for next season isn’t looking so bad.

THis is an extremely skewed article

Just to put things into perspective, he called Manning public enemy number 1 in Indy

He’s a hero, get out of here

If his doctors say he is healthy, then he is…. And if he’s throwing softer than normal, he has 6 months to get that zip back

Miami's Superstars: Reggie Bush, Brandon Marshall, Jake Long, Mike Pouncey, Karlos Dansby, Cameron Wake, Vontae Davis and Sean Smith (just wait), Lebron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Mike Stanton, Gaby Sanchez, Hanley Ramirez, Josh Johnson, Heath Bell, Mark Buehrle, Jose Reyes, Tomas Fleischmann, Stephen Weiss, Jose Theodore, and Chris Versteeg. :)

by finzrule on Feb 8, 2012 7:46 PM EST reply actions

^^THIS

He will be fine.. he had neck surgery, he didn’t have his arm surgically removed like Pennington did… And the thing that has always made him better than any other QB on the field is not his arm strength.. its his brain strength. He puts teams in the right play on every play. He gets the O-line in the right protection, he knows what to do with the ball when he is under a pass rush, rather than scramble into a pass rusher and take a sack like Moore. Bottom line.. if he gets back 50% of his arm strength he can make every single throw that Moore can make, and there is a chance he will get 90% or more of his arm strength back. Honestly, he took a 2-14 team to a 10-6 record the year before. We need this guy.

We had [Brady] down… but we didn’t kick him. We helped him up and gave him a PowerPuff Girls band-aid for his knee. What exactly did you expect would happen when we did that?

by Jason Scott_90 on Feb 8, 2012 10:50 PM EST up reply actions

This writer is biased against Manning.

He obviously doesn’t care about Manning’s past transgressions that have led to all of Indy’s success and he is obviously trying to turn fans’ opinions against Manning. That is a very politically written article. Screw him. I want Manning on the Phins. If we get Robert Mathis as our pass rusher, pick up Manning in FA, draft Reiff in the first to fix our oline and then draft either Tannehill in the second round or Osweiler in the third round, we will not only be set for years, we will be an instant threat to be super bowl bound. Manning’s arm strength will improve with time, he’s still Manning and it’s just good to see that he is throwing the ball around again. Can’t wait to have him back.

The lack of respect shown to Manning disgusts me.

Where would the Colts be without Manning? Last season just proved it.

by LimeyPhin on Feb 8, 2012 7:55 PM EST via mobile reply actions

I have been saying that all along.

It makes me sick. Manning made that franchise successful. Without him it fell apart. And yet Irsay and his minions all turned on him at the drop of a hat just so they could go and get an unproven qb with a ton of hype about him. Granted, I like Andrew Luck and believe he can be elite, but to undermind all that Manning has done for and brought to the Colts organization is garbage. Pure trash.

Hail To The King, Baby!!!!

by SergeHimself on Feb 8, 2012 8:00 PM EST up reply actions

They got the first pick in the draft the year they drafted him...

They got the first pick again the year he didn’t start for them… what was their record while he was with the team? 141-67 in the regular season? And his first season accounted for 13 of those losses. His entire time with the Colts they had 2 losing records and 3 seasons where they went 10-6. Every other season they went 12-4 or better. Not bad for a guy you are kicking to the curb… Don’t think those have been good teams either.. Their wonderful drafting… lets just say there haven’t been that many impact players drafted… Manning makes them alll successful for the most part.

We had [Brady] down… but we didn’t kick him. We helped him up and gave him a PowerPuff Girls band-aid for his knee. What exactly did you expect would happen when we did that?

Peyton has class

Peyton already has stated to- I believe it was Lombardi that he would be willing to sign a flexible contract with little or no money up front. So that shows class on his part and protects a new team IN CASE he can’t throw properly come next season.

by miamimike71 on Feb 8, 2012 8:50 PM EST reply actions

Peyton's got money, so that's not too much of an issue.

Peyton is classy, but I think the reason he came out and said that is so that teams will have less reservations about signing him so that he can prove how good he is and make all of his money in bonuses based on how he plays. He prolly knows that he will be just as good as always, but realizes that teams will be weary so he is putting it out there that he will be flexible so that he can go to a team that HE wants to go to and teams/fans will be more comfortable with his signing.

Brains over Arm Strength

Ill take a QB’s brains over a a strong arm. Pennington was probably the smartest, if not, one of the. If it wasn’t due to his inability to stay healthy he would’ve gone far with the Paper Planes or Fins.

If Manning does turn out to have a Pennington arm, I would not be too worried, He’s savvy enough to manage a game and decipher any D, without a slinger., just my 2 cents.

Manning hijacked the superbowl...

that is hilarious! I mean, they could have kept this stuff out of the media, but nothing took away from the superbowl. I think Indy should be commended for putting on a great game and great events leading up to the game. I mean, Dallas should never get a superbowl again after all of their shananagans last year.

Peyton Manning will be in the playoffs every year until he retires. I hope that is for us. I know that this is not exactly like the whole Brees thing, but we will be kicking ourselves if Peyton comes back and tears it up for 3-4 more years and we passed on him for a back up wo played well in two games.

Ruined Marino

i know who ruined Marino that jerk Jimmy Johnson, he didn’t win anything with all the hoopla of the “What About Them Cowboys”. if it wasn’t for Herschal Walker they wouldn’t have been the Cowboys. i have a feeling seen this before that Manning has set his mind to get back to the Super Bowl. If he didn’t feel it in his heart I’m more than sure he will walk away. So I say go get Manning and forget about the rest. Folks we have not seen the playoffs since that short lived AFC East Champs season in 2008. Remember no Brady…
