Miami Dolphins Odds to Land Peyton Manning
Earlier today, we took a look at the Miami Dolphins odds to win Super Bowl XVLII, along with the odds of the rest of the NFL. But, the website Bovada.lv did not stop with just Super Bowl odds. They also took a look at odds, by team, to land soon to be free agent Peyton Manning.
Manning is expected to be released by the Indianapolis Colts in the upcoming weeks. Manning, the NFL's only four time MVP, is due a $28 million roster bonus on March8, and the Colts are expected to draft Stanford Cardinal quarterback Andrew Luck with the first overall draft choice this April. With both of those factors, along with Manning having had three neck surgeries in the past 18 months, and missing all of the 2011 season, the Colts are thought to be ready to move on to a new era.
But, when Manning is released, many teams are expected to pursue the future Hall of Fame member. Among them, of course, are the Miami Dolphins, who have been searching for a franchise quarterback since Dan Marino retired after the 1999 season.
Earlier today, ESPN's Adam Schefter described the Dolphins as the favorites to land Manning. Asked where he thought Manning would land, and if the Minnesota Vikings or San Francisco 49ers were in play for the quarterback, Schefter responded:
"Minnesota and San Francisco will not be in play. Remember, Manning will pick his team even more than it will pick him. Minnesota can't offer as much as other teams, and San Francisco will not pursue Manning when it wants to re-sign Alex Smith. The team that is the favorite in my mind to land Manning is Miami. The Dolphins can offer warm weather and a favorable contract, and the team has been screaming for a franchise quarterback since Dan Marino left. Make Miami the favorite for now. But we've already seen what being a favorite meant to New England in this Super Bowl."
However, the Bodog odds makers actually place the Dolphins in the third best position to land Manning. The Dolphins are 3:1 to get Manning, while the Arizona Cardinals are 2:1 and the Washington Redskins are 5:2.
The rest of the odds are below:
| Arizona Cardinals | 2:1 |
| Washington Redskins | 5:2 |
| Miami Dolphins | 3:1 |
| New York Jets | 7:2 |
| Indianapolis Colts | 7:1 |

Its not as cut and dry as it seems
There are a bunch of positives, weather, defense, o-line, he knows the AFC, coaching staff and an underrated receiving core. However, we are in a tough division, we face blitz happy teams, our owner is kind of a dumb ass, and our home fanbase isn’t what it used to be.
Positives outweigh the negatives. He wont win a superbowl with Arizona and I doubt he wants to be in Washington in the cold playing Eli twice a year. I really see us going to the superbowl with him.
Thats crazy, they pick Indy and NY as the top 2 and the redskins 3rd? The Jets and Redskins are a mess… and indy well we already know what they have done to ruin there relationship with their franchise QB… Cardinals have Kolb and invested quite a bit to get him.. so we wills see about that.. add the Manning has a home in miami,.. hmmm

You're reading the odds wrong,
We are third most likely based on those odds behind Arizona and the Redskins. They are saying Arizona is the most likely because of Fitz and the fact they’re in a dome, but I don’t see it. I think he’d be best served at Miami where he’ll prolly be treated like a king for the last 5 or however long years of his career and potentially take us to and hopefully win a few superbowls while we groom our next franchise qb under his wing.

No problem man,
glad I could help. I still think it IS backwards. We should be the heavy favorites. Even Schefter thinks so.

honestly...
I hope so… it would be nice to see Manning vs. Manning next year… as the Dolphins pull off a win in the superbowl against the NY Giants

That would be awesome,
so many storylines and what not. Philbin being successful after the death of his son. Peyton being successful after Irsay wrote him off. Irsay’s pain and anger when his team is terrible for the next 6 years without half of it’s leaders. I still think it’d be maybe the 49ers though. Think about that. Harbaugh vs. Philbin. Philbin for the win!!!!

Vegas is going to make a killing
Giving those odds to those dumb ass new york jets fans. 0 chance Manning goes to NY.
Could the Browns be a likely destination?
Just wondering… Are they completely sold on McCoy?
Very unlikely
Pretend you’re an aging QB with injury concerns.
Do you go to the worst team in the AFC North, and volunteer to face the hardhitting Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens, and rapidly rising Cincinatti Bengals, each twice a year?
Those 3 teams were all playoff teams this year. All the Cleveland Offense has going for it is Joe Thomas.
I can’t imagine a worse situation for Manning.
I can....
Indy.

Absolutely. That team is completely messed up. They’re aging rapidly and without Manning under center, the rest of the team will fall apart, maybe even worse than they did this year. Saturday said he may just retire and that some of the other FA’s will definitely not be resigning with Indy. Irsay shot himself in the foot by turning on Peyton and treating him like he has. Their fans will be screaming for his head. That team is going to be horrible. I really feel bad for Andrew Luck, but maybe he’ll pull a power move like Eli did. That would make Irsay look soooooo stupid.

Did you really just say Cleveland?
Why doesn’t Manning just convert to running back?
It's simple
Two scenarios. Either Manning’s nerves regenerate and he regains his arm strength, or they don’t. If they don’t, Manning’s not going to play and embarrass himself with a terrible final season in the NFL. So this analysis only applies if Manning’s recovery goes well.
1. Indianapolis Colts: I personally think the smart move for the Colts, given their aging roster, is to keep Manning, trade Luck for a ton of 1st round picks, and use one of the future 1st round picks to get a successor to Manning. Luck isn’t going to be able to keep up with the Texans’ high powered offense and very good defense under Wade Phillips, so no Manning means Texans dominance of the AFC South for the next few years.
But Irsay says that he wants Luck, and Manning (correctly) knows he can’t win on a team where the 1st and 2nd QBs occupy 1/4 of the salary cap, so he’ll leave if they draft Luck.
2. Redskins: Mark my words. The Eagles will be better next year. The Giants will still be good next year. Heck, the Cowboys might stop choking every year and play up to their potential next year. There’s no reason why Manning would sign up to go against the amazing defensive line of his brother’s team twice a year, or be up against Jason Babin plus Asomugha/Samuels/Rodgers-Cromartie, or be up against Demarcus Ware, etc. Signing up to the worst team (Redskins) in the competitive NFC East full of good pass rushers isn’t a smart move.
3. Jets: The Jets had a two year window where they have an amazing O-line, amazing defense, and amazing run game, and talented receiving corps of Holmes, Edwards, and the reliable Jericho Cotchery. They made it to the AFC Championship game twice, and lost. Since then, they’ve downgraded their wide receiving corps (Holmes is the only one left), LT is even further past his prime, their offensive line regressed, and their defense is looking less and less stout every year. Oh, and the Jets have no cap room at all, so even if they do all they can to get under the cap, they can either sign Manning or get free agents to fix their (many) needs. They can’t afford to do both.
4. Arizona: Where to begin. Manning goes here, he faces the (very) credible San Francisco 49’er defense. He joins a team that threw a ton of money at Kevin Kolb, much of it guaranteed. He joins a roster full of mostly mediocre talent. Most importantly, he joins a team with a terrible offensive line (injury concerns?). Larry Fitzgerald is an amazing wide receiver, but I don’t see Manning winning a Super Bowl with the Cardinals, and that’s what he’s after.
5. Miami: Let’s see. New coaching staff that’s still setting the foundation of a team – meaning Manning could be part of that process. A fabulous defensive unit, top 10 in points allowed despite spending much of the year playing from behind (meaning they couldn’t be aggressive in going after the QB due to the other team having the freedom to be balanced due to their lead). Offensive weapons including Marshall, Bess, Fasano, Clay, the underrated Hartline, and a rejuvenated Reggie Bush. An offensive line that is only 2 pieces away from being dominant, with an All-Pro left tackle, above average left guard, and Pro-Bowl alternate Center. Warm weather. A vibrant culture for his wife to enjoy. No contest really.

Two random things as well...
1. There is that condo they have in Miami. May help a bit.
2. He is apparently friends with Dan Marino and also the Williams sisters. Yes it seems stupid, but you just never know what could be that one small thing to push him to the team if they tell him they hope he signs with the Dolphins. Can’t hurt!
this is so true...
and people need to start seeing the subtleties.. its a VERY likely scenario

He is definitely friends with Dan the Man.
They golf together frequently and Dan has said that he loves him. Dan, like many of the other QB’s in the league (see Aarron Rodgers at the MVP trophy presentation) is really pulling for Peyton to come back 100%. A Peytonless league loses some of it’s luster because people love to watch him and the things he’s capable of. I think he’d give Peyton his full blessing in Miami.

Best chance...
He’ll go with the team that gives him the best chance to get back to the SB. Bottom line.
He doesn’t want to be outdone by his brother after all that he’s put in…
I believe that we give him that chance.
We really are just an elite QB away from a superbowl.

Not to mention Harbaugh has faith in him and has since day one.

I really can't stand the football media's bias against us.
They never can say anything good about the Dolphins. Maybe experts, Ross, supposedly Manning himself and other sources say that Manning and the Dolphins have mutual interest in each other and there’s a good possibility that if he is cut, he’ll be our QB going forward. I turn it to ESPN two days ago and they’re talking about possible landing spots for him. They talk about the Jets (who I think is the least likely to get him), Arizona, Cleveland, the Redskins and even the Seahawks… but they don’t so much as mention the Dolphins. That is a load of crap. At least Schefter said we’re the most likely destination for Manning a while ago. In my eyes, we really are.
Hail To The King, Baby!!!!
I don't think it is to tell you the truth.
I think we’ve been the proverbial whipping boy since Marino left. They never have anything good to say about us. Winning next season with Peyton will change that. Then we will become media favorites just like Ross wants. A coach and a QB both fighting for something. Both with a fire lit in them. We could be huge for the next several years with Peyton under center while we groom our qb of the future. We GOT to get Reiff in the first though to sure up our O-Line. I do not want to see Peyton get hurt because of crappy line play.

I just hope...
Without trying to be a pessimist we dont end up with a Culpepper-like Manning seeing that we added Dante after an injury plagued season as well. I think Manning is head over heals better mentally than Dante ever was so as long as he is physically able Im certainly hoping that he can get back to at least 80% of what he was in his prime before injury.

Is it likely he's on a new team before the draft, or is he going to wait?
I know he becomes a free agent as soon as he is released. That means hypothetically if he were released tomorrow, he would be a free agent tomorrow.
That won’t happen, though he could be released in a week or 2 possibly.
I'm trying to get a time frame of when I can expect real reports to come out of where he is leaning towards
I had heard that he could be released as early as this week.
With all of the controversy going on and that back and forth politics, Irsay doesn’t want to mull around, he wants to just move on which is a mistake. That team is in disaray. They will be bad for years to come. Peyton won’t be on the market long. Teams will take a chance on him even if he isn’t 100% healthy, and I wouldn’t blame them. He is that good. He made the Colts what they were. I can see him being put through a physical by a team that HE would like to play for and then being signed the next day after negotiations. Make no mistake about it, he’s Peyton Manning, he will choose what team he wants to play for.

I dont think he will sit long...
Peyton wants to get in the reigns with the owner and coaches as soon as possible so that he can wrap himself around it.. He loves control just as his brother Eli, and father Archie before him.. It just runs in his blood

Colts fans
I live in Indiana and have been anti-Peyton Manning for as long as I remember…..but that’s only because he’s on the other side of the fence, and I get tired of hearing Colts fans around here worship the ground he walks on. Anyway, Colts fans are either A.) Scared to death they’ll lose him or B.) Throwing him under the ship with the expectations that Luck will lead them to the promised land.
I enjoy telling Colts fans that Manning will look awfully good in Aqua and Orange throwing TD’s all day long to B-Marsh!
