Around SBN: Indy 500: 'Greatest Spectacle In Racing' Set For Sunday

Apparently his wife loves the area and they already have a condo in Miami. This could just happen if he is fit to play!

Of course he wants to play here

Warm weather and a team that he could reach the superbowl with. He also gets to go after Brady.

WooHoo!!

If this happens, maybe the Dolphins can wait on a Quarterback in the draft.
And get themselves even more set on defense.

Manning?

The only thing standing in the way is the fact his throwing arm nerves have not regenerated yet.

The only thing in the way is

We don’t have the cap space to get him and keep our FAs.

... which in-turn affects his throwing strength. So if he gets back to optimus primus (sorry, had to there), then the Dolphins could sitting pretty.

I think, if Peyton even gets 90 percent back, the team would have a better quarterback than what they’ve had in a long time….

If he throws the ball half as good as he did before he is a better QB than what we have currently..

We had [Brady] down… but we didn’t kick him. We helped him up and gave him a PowerPuff Girls band-aid for his knee. What exactly did you expect would happen when we did that?

i would love PM on our team

but we would need to keep some of our free agents …is that even possible. letting soliai go is 15mill but …..

Bring me some exciting moves this offseason

Bring PM put us in WinNow-Mode

but need to be a lot sure he was at 100%, because with his sign we will not have cap room space to get any else… and the rick to lose guys in FA.
That’s I prefer Flynn, but if PM was available and healthy Ross will be pull hard to get him, no matter the cost, thats my concern.

by David Leal on Feb 3, 2012 6:44 PM EST reply actions

I'm not sure Flynn will be cheaper than Manning ... just saying.

I think Flynn will get a cheaper contract for Philbin's team

the option of Flynn to land with Philbin could be his best shot to be a successful QB in the NFL, and he could accept a cheap contract (8 mill, 2 years, 2 granted) with the promise of a Big contract if he shows could be a franchise QB.

In the other hand we can draft Tannehill and develop behind Flynn/Manning/Moore (or how else was the starter next 2 years) with Sherman advice… and have an insurance policy with him. In better case we can have 2 grate QB’s ready to start, and can trade one for picks.

by David Leal on Feb 3, 2012 7:14 PM EST up reply actions

If Flynn accepts that type of contract he is an idiot and his agent should be fired immediately

At $4M per year, that is a back-up QB salary. He wants and is going to get a starting QB contract. Flynn is going to get a Kolb like contract – 5 years for $60M+.

Manning might be willing to take less than that because of his injury risk. Not much less but still less.

Only $4 Million dollars annually is ludicrous.

However to assume that he will make as much as Kolb did last season may also be faulty. Remember that Kolb was traded, so the Cardinals were between a rock and a hard place. They were commited to him (as they have traded Rodgers-Cromartie and a second round pick) and hadn’t otherwise addressed the position. So Kolb was able to elevate his salary.

Flynn is a free agent, so his salary is going to be decided by how much interest he receives from different clubs. I don’t see it as unreasonable for him to only be able to land a deal somewhere in the 5 year $40 Million range with 15+ Million guaranteed.

I think that is still too low. Flynn is going to be in the 5-6 year range, $60M+, with $25M+ guaranteed, IMO.

That’s what Kolb got. That’s what Cassel got. Translated into today’s dollars, that’s what Matt Hasselbeck got.

That is the precedent that has been set. That is also about the going rate for a starting (quality) QB in the NFL. Miami (and it’s fans) needs to stop thinking cheap when it comes to the most important position on the field.

When you pay discount prices, you get discount play. After 10+ years you would think that Miami would get that.

It is surely on the low end of what Flynn will make.

However it isn’t unreasonable if the competition is limited. If the Dolphins are competing with 3+ clubs for his services than his salary will be drastically elevated. However if the Dolphins have limited competition, maybe only one other team (say Cleveland) than it is possible that he is only able to make somewhere in the 6 yr. $48 million range withe 18 or so guaranteed or 5 yrs. for the same base salary ($8 mil.)

As for him getting Kolb/Cassel money it is possible but again there is a difference between this situation and those ones. Both players were under contract and were traded, so they had leverage against the teams they were traded to. I don’t see the Packers franchising Flynn as the Pats did with Cassel, so I think that his value will be somewhat reduced by hitting the Market. If the Dolphins have to compete with say Cleveland and Washington for him though his salary could rise very quickly.

Again though, I am not by any means against giving him a deal similar to Kolb’s (5 yr. $63.5 Million dollars with $21 Million guaranteed) or Cassel’s slightly smaller deal with a bigger guarantee (6 yr. $62.7 Million with $28 Mil. in guaranteed money). Not to a Franchise Quarterback, despite having to allocate cap room to do it. Philbin has worked with this man every day of professional career, if he believes that he can be a longterm starting Quarterback in the NFL, price and competition from other teams shouldn’t deter him. If there are setbacks, Philbin will be held accountable.

Flynn...

5 yr/55 mil/20 guaranteed. Maybe 4/50/15. Just guessing…

He's coming to Miami

Ross needs a blue chip QB, even if it’s 80% Peyton manning, the ticket sales alone especially with 2 primetime games against Brady and luck vs manning if/when we play the colts.

It's going to be interesting

seeing who winds up being our QB next year

by PhinPhan910 on Feb 3, 2012 9:25 PM EST reply actions

Im sure they could work the numbers to get Peyton under the cap and still have space.

Marshall who is pulling for him would probably redo his deal to have an elite QB throwing to him. Dont you think or maybe im just crazy. lol!

Idk, I'd sign manning to 15 mill for 2 seasons even if he had only one arm and in a wheelchair, hes still one of the greatest of all time

And if it doesnt work, oh well….. I thinkin would Inject the excitement we need into the franchise.

Pm one of the great ones

Totally agree the way he changes plays at the line reads defenses is unlike any other, but that was b4 injury, so who knows now. Even if he is only able to throw at 85-90% of his original strength, he still has the football SMARTS that is what we need a smart QB! I just don’t want a repeat of Pennington who was also very football smart. I will be ok with PM or Flynn who I think def. Has potential to be a great QB,,and for a longer period of time, then Pm who will only be a temp solution, but if he could take us all the way then its worth it, a phan’s gotta have a dream….

Drew Brees

Remember the last QB we passed on because of medical?

Do you think we will not be kicking ourselves if he comes back and is a solid franchise QB for another 4 years?

We had [Brady] down… but we didn’t kick him. We helped him up and gave him a PowerPuff Girls band-aid for his knee. What exactly did you expect would happen when we did that?

But by that logic

you have to also consider Trent Green and Daunte Culpepper, who we took chances on after injuries and it blew up in our face. We can’t make the decision on Manning based on the fear of a Brees repeat. We have to examine it as an individual case and decide if the potential reward is worth the risk. And we really won’t know until we get closer to the season and see how this injury is healing.
