Miami Dolphins Left Tackle Jake Long Entering Final Year of Contract

Reports last week, including a story here on the Phinsider, stated that Jake Long had a sixth year on his contract that became valid when he made the Pro Bowl in his rookie year. Apparently, those reports were incorrect.

Because there was confusion last week: Jake Long absolutely 100% is set to be a FA after 2012. 6th year of his contract will void. Confirmed

Would anyone consider the idea of.....

Using him on a trade to acquire a QB?? Say trade him to Rams (who need a LT badly) as part of a deal for their 2nd pick?? That way we dont lose that many picks and might get a decent LT elsewhere…….

We are two linemen short as it is...would getting rid of a third really help the situation?

A QB can’t play on his back you know.

Ok, the only way this works is if we don’t go after a free agent QB and try and sign the best 3 offensive linemen available. Cause even with Long in the trade we will undoubtly give up 1 and 2 this year and 1 next year.

So…we give up our best player and 3 top draft choices and cross our fingers the guy we did it all for doesn’t bust. NO THANKS

If we sign Manning or Flynn and they bust well then we lost some money and will end up in a decent position next year to fill the QB spot with a much deeper QB pool.

Can we just wheel Shula onto the field at the start of ever game being pushed by one of the Miami Cheerleaders? Talk about mixing fear and distraction...

Time to renegotiate his contract.

Then sign up Peyton and pass rusher in FA and draft Tannehill. Easy, isn’t it?

Sign Him 'Long' Term, Free Up Some Cap Space

Then that gives us a lot more options in FA, and consequently the draft.

President of the "Do What You Have to Do to Draft Luck in '12" FanClub. Or failing that...maybe reach for RGIII...just get a freakin QB already!
