Here are the Miami Dolphins news stories from around the web you may have missed over the last 24 hours:

Dolphins Head Coach:

Miami Dolphins coach Joe Philbin has made deep impressions throughout his football career
Joe Philbin was watching TV with his wife Diane back in January 2006 when the news ticker reported that Mike McCarthy had been named head coach of the Green Bay Packers.

NFL.com news: Exit Interview: Philbin era begins with little clarity in Miami
Joe Philbin takes over in Miami, and the new coach will certainly have a chance to make his mark on the team. Elliot Harrison says the Dolphins' roster will see much change this offseason.

NFL.com news: Dolphins O-coordinator Sherman praises Tannehill's confidence
The Dolphins are anticipated to make a run at Matt Flynn in free agency, but in reading offensive coordinator Mike Sherman's comments on Texas A&M's Ryan Tannehill, perhaps the team might be looking to draft a QB.

Mike Sherman: Continuity in offense benefits quarterbacks – Miami Dolphins – Sun-Sentinel
New Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator Mike Sherman made a very insightful observation about the NFL’s successful offenses, and the playoff teams.

When new Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin was hired, fans expected him to come in with his Packers playbook in tow. To help the potential implementation, Philbin has brought in former Texas A&M head coach Mike Sherman, one of his football mentors.

Mike Sherman compares Tannehill to Favre, Rodgers | ProFootballTalk
The Dolphins are in a better position than any team to know whether Matt Flynn is worth franchise quarterback money. They are also in a better position than any team to know whether Texas A&M product Ryan Tannehill is a worth high draft pick in April.

Dolphins Quarterbacks:

Hard-luck Miami Dolphins might not find upgrade at quarterback - Greg Cote - MiamiHerald.com
The Dolphins will need something to fall just right in a major way over these next several weeks, and the litany and litter of Things Gone Wrong over the past decade suggest that’s a lot to expect. Dolfans’ blind faith in the law of averages has grown threadbare by degrees.

Dolphins Defensive Line:

Don’t expect Dolphins to use franchise tag on Paul Soliai this time around | The Daily Dolphin
Today is another one of those days NFL general managers have circled on their calendars. Starting today and through March 5, teams can put the franchise tag on their players.

Dolphins Free Agency:

For the Miami Dolphins, there will be lots of questions that have to be answered in the coming weeks on both sides of the football.

Free agency timing could affect Flynn-Manning decision | Miami Dolphins In Depth
The calendar says March 8th is precisely 17 days away and falls on a Thursday. That is the deadline by which time the Indianapolis Colts must either pay Peyton Manning his $28 million bonus or allow him to become a free agent.

Scout.com: Free Agency and Franchise Fodder
Monday was a significance date on the NFL calendar as it marked the start of a two-week window where teams could place franchise tags on their players. For the Dolphins, though, it's likely to be a quiet two weeks because it would be a shock if they decided to franchise any of the upcoming free agents.

With the hiring of Philbin, we should be watching who the Packers are planning on getting rid of.

I find it interesting that Sherman is publicly

praising Tannehill. It makes me wonder if he is trying to entice one of the QB needy teams to focus on him rather than who the Dolphins have really targeted. It is the season of smoke screens and Dolphin coaches rarely talk publicly prior to training camp, especially coordinators and assistants. If the Dolphins are targeting any FA or draft prospect why would the FO and coaches sing their praise? There has to be more than meets the eye.

Also, just listened to the Mike Mayock podcast on potential Dolphin and other draft prospects on the Finsiders. Very interesting, I like listening to him.

That strategy makes sense with Peyton, Flynn and even RGIII/Luck

Those guys are all early draft prospects or FA moves, so focusing elsewhere will keep teams off their toes if that’s who the Phins really want. I don’t see it making quite. However, enticing teams to focus on Tennahill makes little sense unless they REALLY want one of the lesser QBs (Wedden, Cousins, Ford, Manuel etc). It just doesn’t make sound sense to me in this case.

i think they are doing the same with Peyton.

I have a feeling that they want someone to overpay for him, and they can get Flynn who I think they wanted all along. Just my opinion.

Where is Oronde Gadsden when we need him?

I can tell it's Weedon they want.

I never got a prize for doing what was expected of me.
