PrintThis is the first of our new daytime random live threads. I will post one each non holiday Monday through Friday. Feel free to stop in during your work day and chat about whatever. There are never any set subject's but as always we prefer that you stay as far away from politics and religion. Also as this is a day time thread and not a nighttime CKC please keep the conversation as close to a PG as possible.
Also I do not care if you post picks during these threads but try and keep them to a minimum of one or two per person with something in the subject line so that they may be closed. In the past we have had issues with the same person posting several and that only serves to slow down the whole thread for everyone.

Regardless of what the Dolphins team needs are...(posted on the SB Nation Mock)
If Jeff Ireland dares to draft another O-lineman in the 1st round again this year there will be rioting in the streets of Miami. They are having a problem putting butts in the seats already and if they do draft another O-lineman there will be many season ticket holders that cancel their season tickets. They are at the point that there are only 2 or 3 positions they could draft that will not cause widespread outrage in Miami. The most likely is OLB/DE(either Quinton Coples if he drops or Melvin Ingram), but I could also seeing us jump up and getting RG3.
Their picks might not be as high as the Browns’ or Redskins’ are, but we missing much less pieces than any of the teams at the bottom of the draft. We could easily give up a king’s ransom and not think twice about it if we really believe that RG3 is a franchise QB. It would be hard to imagine any other team giving up as much as Miami could conceivably give up, given the fact that we need to get some excitement in South Florida and no one else will bring that like a franchise QB.
It could also be argued that we already have our solution for RT given the fact that John Jerry was moved from backup RG to LT for the last few games and we didn’t miss Jake Long too much with him in there. If we can move him to RT, it is possible we might have RT locked down for quite a few years, without spending another high round pick on an OT. Jerry was an OT in college and it still baffles me that Sparano thought he could move him inside to RG given how much space he needs to be effective.
If someone like Blackmon miraculously drops we will be crazy to pass on him, but aside from that rather unlikely scenario, there really isn’t anyone that we could draft that would not send the Dolphins fans into orbit.
We had [Brady] down… but we didn’t kick him. We helped him up and gave him a PowerPuff Girls band-aid for his knee. What exactly did you expect would happen when we did that?

But you have to take it in context at the time. Lets wait and see what moves are made in free agency first.
Some guys will be let go and some guys will be signed. That will dictate where the draft goes for us. Really too soon for people to be predicting any level of doom based on anything at this point.

it was more a joke than anything, but I honestly cannot see myself being happy with useing four of the last eight 1st round picks on the O-Line...
great teams are able to find and develop good O-Lineman, they dont have to use so many #1 picks on them

I agree but this is a new staff so if they see it as a glaring issue over some other issue then you have to give
them the benefit of the doubt. Otherwise you are holding the previous staffs moves against them. I for one will sit back and let Philben and his boys do their thing and see how it works out on the field.

I think a lot of it comes down to
investments - if this team can fill the void on the line through free agency by spending $x, then is that a better investment than drafting to fill the void and spending $y? Same with other positions of need.
You’re correct — let’s wait and see what free agency brings. I have a feeling we will be semi-active in free agency, letting some of our own walk and signing a few. I don’t see any big splash signings unless Manning is proven healthy. I’m holding out hope that we figure a way to get RGIII.

Yeah I don't see us getting RG3 unless Manning signs with Washington.
Thats our best hope as they do not reportedly want Flynn and its between Manning, pending his health checking out, and Griffin.

im not too sure Manning would want Washington
they’re a pretty dysfunctional organization and I think he would want to go to a safer team. Of course, I am just speculating.

So hard to tell where he might want to go. I can see Washington only because of the HC and
they do have some players there but like many teams with a down record they are mainly hurt by their lack of quality play at the QB position.

i know they are very happy with Smith, but if they have a shot at a healthy Manning, they have to take it. He could take that team to another level

Smith is a FA, last offseason he signed a one year deal
Manning would be perfect for them IMO because (if he is healthy), he makes them contenders for the next few years. And then they drafted Colin Kaepernick for when Manning hangs them up. I do agree that they are likely to stick with Smith, but Manning makes sense IMO

I had an idea of tracking every teams success since we lost Marino to retirement.
I would go though every year and give each team a half a point for a winning season (9-7 or better)(8-8 or worse get NO points for that season), a point for making the playoffs, a point and a half for winning a first round game or for getting the bye, 2 points for winning the second round, 2 and a half points for getting to the superbowl and 3 points for winning it. Each team would only get one score per year then they would all be totaled up and ranked 1-32.

I dont like the format for the matty awards. I agree with many that few get nominated and many get overlooked. I personally dont care if i get an award or nominated, but the same few people get nominated and it may be a disservice to the many who contribute.
Maybe, the staff writers should come up with the nominations based on activity and contributions and then everyone can vote.

They want to stay up and you want to get busy. The best thing you can do is start with a really early bedtime, so you still have time after they negotiate a later one.

Also got into a huge car accident while driving home from his very young gf’s house (she was probably 21 or 22 at the time). Wife kept vigil at his bedside, because she was pretty much the only person in town who was clueless about his shenanigans. She found out soon afterwards though.

I remember him when he was drafted, and how every scout in the universe compared him to Mickey Mantle. Kind of a stretch for an 18 year old kid just out of high school, not to mention the pressure that came along with that comparison. It’s easy to see how it could happen.
