2012 NFL Free Agents: The Quarterbacks

The 2012 NFL Free agency period begins in 26 days. As such, it's time to start looking at the free agents that will hit the market this year, assuming franchise tags are not applied (like Drew Brees). This also does not include someone like Peyton Manning, who is not a free agent unless he does get released; these are the players with expiring contracts.

To start this off, we will start where everything starts for the NFL. The quarterbacks:

Since the team didn't pick him, now's their chance....

Oh please, oh please, could we get Brady Quinn?

Should have taken Drew Brees..

When we had the chance years ago…. he wanted to play here too

Just mentioning that should be accompanied by a temporary ban at this point.

Why ?

I know you are (kind of kidding) …but the fans have a right to still bummed about that bone-headed decision… especially those of us that really wanted DREW over PEP…
We still suffer from that decision…every sunday…

LOL of course its just a joke.

Because its one of those things that has been mentioned so much that many of us do not want to be reminded of. I often times prefer to not be reminded of really terrible shit. Besides I have to look forward or my head will explode. Do you want my head to explode? Do you?

I understand your point but......

Isn’t it rather annoying to still be complaining about Brees? Where does it end? Whining about Eddie Moore for another ten years? The ’punk has a point; enough pouting about the past. If things between a fan and his team have reached the point where the fan cannot move beyond the events of more than five years ago, maybe they should just root for the Pats or Steelers and make themselves happy. Being a fan is about endurance, not sobbing inconsolably about the past at every opportunity.

Matt Flynn and Jeff Garcia. Im crazy right?

Matt Flynn: familiar with the coaching staff, young with just enough promise to push Moore.

Jeff Garcia: older veteran with a familiarity for the WCO from his days in San Fran. Could mentor the younger guys, and as a third stringer, could help WR’s learn the route trees from a QB perspective.

This would allow us to trade down and stockpile pics for next year.

by dolphinfan4lyfe on Feb 16, 2012 11:23 PM EST via mobile reply actions

Heck, take Delhomme and Garcia

Houston doesn’t need them anymore now. You could probably get them for 50 bucks and a couple cases of Schlitz.

Wow, a who's who of who not to pick.

But Ireland being Ireland, he’ll probably snag both McCown’s only to confuse Belichek and Ryan.

If we're going to go after a backup......

Maybe Miami should take a good look at the backup from the Patriots, Brian Hoyer. He looked really good in the preseason where I noticed him. After backing up Tom Brady, he probably learned a lot!!! Just sayin’

Yeah

because Matt Cassell is a pro bowl quarterback himself…..

Except Hoyer is a RFA.

I don’t want to give up picks for him.

Not sure what they'll do with Hoyer.

He’s beaten out everyone they’ve ever brought in as backup (including the veterans already on the roster) since his rookie year. He looks pretty good in his limited snaps.

They can’t tender him at his draft round, since he was undrafted. That leaves a 2nd, 1st, or 1st and 3rd. There’s around a half million in salary for each step. Depending on how they feel about Mallet, they may not tender him at all.

He’s currently making $525,000, and a 2nd round tender would put him over $1,300,000. They might tender him if they feel strongly about him or if they think they could trade him. They can always tender him with a 2nd and then trade him for a 4th. The new team would be on the hook for the tender salary.

The more you know, the more you know that you don't know.

That would be my prediction

For NE to slap him with a tender and try to trade him. They’re not hurting on cap space.
