If he moves team

Then he’ll be at the Dolphins.
As much as the Colts are backtracking in recent days they aren’t interested in having him.
The only way he’ll retire is if he’s injured beyond repair.

To be honest their is so much briefing been undertaken by voices in the shadows it is hard to know the truth and until that comes out nobody knows what we will happen.

There's 3 realistic options

Option 1 &2- If he’s healthy, he’ll either restructure his deal with the Colts or if he hits the market, I have to believe Miami is where he’ll be. I just don’t see him going to NY, Houston (they have Schaub already), Arizona (overpayed for Kolb), 49ers (Smith had a good year), nor Washington (they’ll draft Griffen and don’t have the team around Peyton to go anywhere). Same with Seattle, they’re more than Peyton Manning away from a SB, especially in the NFC where there’s the Giants, 9ers, Packers, Saints, and even ATL.

Option 3- IF Manning can’t get healthy enough to return to his old form, I think he hangs up the cleats and calls it quits.

Manning stay or leave?

Another question is if Manning stays do the colts still draft luck? If not, then the colts might trade out of the top pick. I don’t see the colts signing manning and then drafting luck to let him sit behind peyton for what they are going to have to pay luck. I think Manning is definately leaving indy.

41%? what a bunch of homers...

J/K of course… I voted for Miami also btw… I think it is a great move by both Manning and the Dolphins and we have the most to offer. I really hope we get this done.

We had [Brady] down… but we didn’t kick him. We helped him up and gave him a PowerPuff Girls band-aid for his knee. What exactly did you expect would happen when we did that?

by Jason Scott_90 on Feb 15, 2012 7:46 AM EST reply actions

I voted Miami...

but not because I’m a homer. I actually don’t think it’s a good move (I’d rather build a long term contender than have only a 2 year window. Here’s hoping Tannehill works out as well.)

Anyone who thinks he’s going to stay in Indy really hasn’t been paying attention. it’s not even a question at this point, they draft Luck, he moves on.

by BlueGrin on Feb 15, 2012 8:30 AM EST up reply actions

If Manning is willing to have an incentive contract for other teams

Then why would he not be willing to restructure his current contract to stay with a team he’s known his entire career? At this point, I almost think it’s more likely that he returns to the Colts than he does go to the Dolphins. And that sucks, because I want a healthy Peyton Manning on the Miami roster.

I’m from Indiana, and believe me, they LOVE Peyton Manning in Indiana. He’s the greatest thing, athlete wise, this state has ever saw outside of Larry Legend….but even then Larry played for Boston and only grew up here. Peyton is probably our #1 athlete to ever play in Indiana…..they’ll keep him if he is willing to restructure his contract.

by Mr_Solo_Dolo on Feb 15, 2012 8:48 AM EST up reply actions

Because he already has a contract with Indy and they already know how his health is going.

Other teams can’t keep track on Manning so he has to convince them to sign him. The Colts already know how his medical progression is going. If Indy and/or Manning were interested in giving the Colts the same offer, it’s likely the deal would already be done or at least be negotiated. Instead, Irsay and Manning still haven’t met and there have been absolutely no negotiations taking place.

I look at Irsay’s latest comments as him trying to portray himself as the “good guy” when Peyton leaves Indy.

Might be true….but Irsay will be insanely stupid to let a healthy Manning go. I’m telling you, there’s never been another player loved as much as Manning in this state.

I guess it could have been likely Manning told the Colts, Luck or me…you pick. Which in that case Irsay would be stuck between a rock and a hard place. But just because it hasn’t been announced, doesn’t mean nothing will get done. I think Manning leaving will be a domino effect for Indy as you’ll see possibly Wayne leave, Freeney, Mathis, Saturday, etc. They’ll have to rebuild a complete identity IMO.

Guess only time will tell.

by Mr_Solo_Dolo on Feb 15, 2012 9:00 AM EST up reply actions

He'd be doing it with the best interest of the franchise. Indy's best interest is Andrew Luck.

That is why he’s doing damage control by making himself seem like the good guy. Before, he said that Manning will be back in Indy as long as he’s healthy. Now with reports of his arm strength returning, he’s saying Manning will be back in Indy if he’s willing to restructure his contract. All of this leads to that Manning will not be back in Indy.

As for the others, it’s possible Wayne, Mathis, and Saturday will leave anyways. Irsay already admitted the Colts are in a “partial” rebuilding mode and quite often you’ll find that aging veterans aren’t brought back to aging teams. Even if Manning does return, it’s likely one or two of those players won’t.

And if Manning gave the Colts that ultimatum, than we’d already know the answer. Irsay even said the Colts are taking a QB with the #1 pick. That is pretty much a public admission they are selecting Andrew Luck.

I get that Peyton is a loved player. Miami fans were going through similar feelings when Dan Marino was considering leaving Miami for another team. SF had Montana leave the 49ers. Namath left the Jets and MJ left the Bulls. It’d not unusual for some of the best players to leave later in their careers. Ultimately, Irsay will be fine if Manning leaves because the fanbase will still have plenty of hope for Luck.

I’ll just agree to disagree. I think in terms of revenue…Manning puts people in the seats. Luck will too…until the Colts continue to spiral downwards. What the absence of Manning proved (which I told Colts fans all along this) is that they need more help than just another QB. Can Luck keep the opposing offense off the field like Manning? I highly doubt it. You plug Luck into the Colts offense, and they’ll still struggle. I saw first hand how Colts fans turned their backs on the organization this year. Not keeping Manning will continue the trend…unless they find some way to win….. Just my opinion.

by Mr_Solo_Dolo on Feb 15, 2012 2:41 PM EST up reply actions

Indy does have more needs than just QB

But they have the opportunity to take the best QB prospect in over a decade and will probably do it. They already said the #1 pick will be a QB. Luck will do very well for them and should be an upgrade over any QB they had last year. If they resign players like Wayne, Garcon, and Mathis, they can actually do fairly well. However, the Colts can let Wayne, Garcon, and Mathis go and still resign Peyton, but still not be very good. The Colts are rebuilding with or without Peyton. They may as well start with the bext QB prospect to come out since Peyton.

The Colts agreed to Manning's contract just like he agreed to it

They made the investment because they had faith in him. Now they no longer have faith in him and they want to rescind the deal. Personally, I think Manning should make Irsay pay up or cut him. He clearly won’t get 28 mil no matter what else happens anyway.

Irsay is quite the double talker. First he criticized Manning for making a public statement and not “keeping it in the family,” now here he is talking restructuring through the media. Asswad.

When an owner is negotiating through the media, things are not going well face to face.

Further proof that owners should sign checks and then just sit back and let the pros deal with it. Irsay will single handedly drive Manning out of town.

Yeah I have been told that I am blind because I stay positive towards my team or at least try to.

My take is that while I always want better for my team when they are down I not only support them always but stay positive for two reasons. First, my fandom is something that I did not pick out of a hat or pick up at random because they were the good team at the time or the flavor of the month. Second, no matter how emotionally attached I am to my team I know that life is about so much more and there are things that are so much more important to me. This is a form of entertainment and if I am going to let it bring me down emotionally or turn me in to some negative person then whats the point? Besides as fans short of not buying tickets (which always happens if you are bad long enough) there is little we can do but be fans and cheer for our team no matter what. For example would I be upset if Ireland came out and announced that they were resigning Henne and he would be their starter? Sure I would. Would it make me cheer for him any less? Nope. Because at the end of the day he would be a Dolphin and they are my team till death. Would I let it bring me down? Nah, nothing comes of looking at the negative and not finding the positives in everything when you can.

Miami

Not because I think that its a good idea, but because it appears that Ross is making these calls and I can’t imagine any scenario where he doesn’t grab Manning, should he become available.

Still, as bad an idea as I think it would be for our beloved franchise in the long term, it would be pretty cool to see Manning under center for Miami.

I am fairly certain Manning will tell Irsay to shove it and get cut.

The Jets...

They’d save around $9 mil if they cut him in early March, but they’d only save $8.3 or so if they wait a few weeks because he has a roster bonus due. Sanchez isn’t going anywhere.

Even if they did try to release Sanchez, that would only get them about $8 mil under the cap. It’ll take more than that to get Peyton.

I thought I read somewhere that

if the Jets were to release Sanchez that his cap hit would actually go up and would be tied to “dead money” as a result of guarantees and bonuses applied. If I cared much I would look it up but quite frankly I don’t, also Sanchez isn’t going anywhere, at least not for this year.

For players like Bart Scott, Calvin Pace, Wayne Hunter, Santonio Holmes, and some others, that is true.

But not for Sanchez. The actualy figure that Sanchez would cost them may be a little less than $8 million because they did restructure his deal last year and converted some into bonus money, but he certainly wouldn’t cost the Jets more to release him.

He is correct, well sort of.........

Based on his original contract these would be his numbers (also these are the numbers that everyone is working off of because at this point they are all they have)-

Sachez cap number for 2012-$14,253,125

Dead money if cut-$5,006,250

Cap savings if cut-$9,246,875

The issues that no one that is commenting on or taking in to account is that Sanchez reworked his contract back in December of 11. No one knows for fact what was adjusted and how but all that is believed to have changed for his actual base salary is that $500,000 was moved from 2012 to 2013. Of course the important part of the details is how does the reworking of the contract affect his actual cap number. I have to imagine that it was reworked knowing that they were up against the cap and needed to get his 14+mil number that counts against it down.

Base salary before contract being reworked-$4,453,750

As far as the Jets cap situation, if you do not adjust it for any monies that they may have saved by reworking Sanchez they are at $126,667,039. They have a carry over of $8,391,247. This of course puts them slightly under the cap by maybe 2 to 3 mil give or take. Then they have their exemptions-

For the 2011 season, teams have the option of using a $3 million exemption on a signed player. For the years following the 2011 season, teams have the option of designating three player exemptions at $1.5 million each.

From some of the numbers I have....

NYJ is actually only around $500k under the cap, but you’re right on Sanchez reworking his deal. I don’t believe it’d be a significant amount that would’ve been moved to this year and future years.

Regardless, I just don’t see them dumping Sanchez and I don’t see them signing Peyton. Manning just isn’t the type of QB to get along with Rex and the NYJ locker room. He likes control and is very structured. NYJ is anything but either of those.

I think they had to have reworked it to move at least a few mil knowing that they were up against

the cap. Otherwise why do so?

They are at 126.6 mil right now and they do have that 8 mil carry over so they are more then a half mil under but even if they saved say 4 mil by redoing Sanchez they are right up against the cap. Also what can not be overlooked is the amount that is assumed to be saved by cutting him is probably wiped out by the reworking of the contract. It is most likely that he was given something up front as an incentive to rework and extend. Not sure what that is but that would of course all accelerate in to the 2012 cap year if he were cut be it before or after the league year begins.

Well they did restructure it prior to the 2011 season to clear cap space then.

It may have actually added more money to 2012 if they converted part of his salary to a bonus, which would be the likely option. I know you’re going off of NYJetsCap, but I was going off of Rich Cimini of his report that NYJ is $464,000 under.

First off he did NOT restructure before the 2011 season but at the end of this past December.
I was going off of Rich Cimini of his report that NYJ is $464,000 under.

I am going off of a Jets writer who did all the numbers based on what they can confirm. No one knows for sure what the actual cap number is but they are at 126.6 without knowing the affects of Sanchez’s rework. They also have an 8 mil carry over. Those are both facts so I have no idea how he figured his or what new version of math he is using.
