Miami Dolphins All-Time Top 100 Players: 95. Randy Starks
Randy Starks was a three year starter at defensive tackle for the Maryland Terrapins starting as a true freshman in 2001. He was named to the second team All-ACC squad as a Sophomore, and to the first team as a junior. He decided to forgo his Senior season and declare for the 2004 NFL Draft.
The Tennessee Titans selected Starks with their third round pick, 71st overall. He started eight games and appeared in 14 overall for the Titans in his rookie season, collecting 4.5 sacks from the right defensive tackle position.
More after the jump.
Starks would go on to appear in a total of 60 games for the Titans, starting 36 of them and registering 10.5 sacks to go along with 87 tackles, 45 assists, five fumbles recovered, one fumble forces and five passes knocked down.
In the 2008 offseason, Starks signed a five year, $21 million dollar contract to play for the Miami Dolphins. He appeared in all 16 games that season, starting four. He registered three sacks along with 21 tackles and seven assists. He also made his first career interception, against the New England Patriots in week three. It was a game the Dolphins would win, 38-13.
In 2009, Starks started all 16 games for the Dolphins, collecting career highs with 42 tackles and seven sacks from the right defensive end position.
2010 would see Starks invited to his first NFL Pro Bowl. He again started all 16 games for the Dolphins, collecting three sacks.
In 2011, Starks again played in every game for Miami, intercepting two passes in the season ending victory against the New York Jets. It was a game that Miami won, 19-17 and served also to eliminate the Jets from the playoffs. Starks also made 4.5 sacks on the year.
In total, Starks has made 17.5 sacks over four seasons for the Dolphins. He has also intercepted three passes, made 118 tackles and 30 assists, defensed 10 passes, and recovered two fumbles.

Jason Taylor has 85%
The second vote getter is Trace Armstrong, with three percent.

Knowing that everyone is going to vote for Jason Taylor
I voted for Stanfill. It’s not that I think he was better than Taylor, but I do think he was good enough to be in the conversation.

Bill
I love Taylor, but I had to vote for Bill as well since I am related and he is the root of me being a Dolphin fan.
i've been waiting for this moment all my life...but it's not quite right.

and there some others worthy of note
Armstrong, Betters, Bokamper, and Den Herder were certainly no slouches. But I do agree that Taylor was (is?) the best.

Agreed, even Marco was a definite force...
But, like you say, Jason was the best at the position. He magical.

I really want to vote for Trace
And then claim Jason was a linebacker….but then that means I can’t vote for Zach as a linebacker.
Damn.

Damn, tough choices.
Gotta go with Trace, he was so good in a not great D.

Taylor is by far the choice
he is sixth on the all time sack list only three (which should be two) behind strahan
here kitty kitty kitty BANG!
the poll should be best DT for the dolphins........
and i believe that starks should be in the conversation for it….. this guy is a tackle that can make plays in the backfield.. I have always been impressed with Randy Starks play…. He also was willing to beef up and change positions and play nose tackle. what else can you say except the man is a BEAST
I have a separate poll scheduled for NT/DT
when the first one appears in the list. If I had included all defensive lineman in one poll, JT would have won in a landslide, in effect negating what would have made more sense as two polls. As for why Starks is not included in the list, I’d say time in service. The ten men listed on the poll each have more time in a Dolphins uniform than does Starks.
