Miami Dolphins All-Time Top 100 Players: 96. Todd Wade

Todd Wade, Miami Dolphins, 2001

Todd Wade was a four year letterman and three year starter for the University of Mississippi. He also won accolades as a first team All-SEC selection and second team All-American.

Miami chose him with their second round selection in the 2000 draft. Wade would start all 16 games in his rookie season from the right tackle position, plowing the way for Lamar Smith to break the 1,000 yard barrier and helping to restrict the opposition to only 28 sacks.

More after the jump.

Star-divide

In 2001, Wade started 15 games, missing only one game due to injury. He helped Smith lead the Dolphins in rushing and again limited the opposing defenses to sack the Dolphins quarterbacks under 30 times.

2002 would see Wade again anchor the right side of the offensive line, starting all 16 games. He was instrumental in paving the way for Ricky Williams to gain an NFL leading 1,853 yards while only allowing 25 sacks throughout the season.

In 2003, Williams again broke the 1,000 yard barrier behind Wade, who started all 16 games for Miami.

Miami cruised to an overall 41-23 record with Wade on the roster, twice making the playoffs. In his four seasons, the Dolphins allowed an average of 28 sacks per season and on three occasions boasted a 1,000 yard rusher. Wade was signed as a free agent by the Houston Texans prior to the 2004 season, and would play two seasons for them. He followed that by playing two seasons with the Washington Redskins. He joined the Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad in 2008, but did not make the roster, retiring in October.

All of this makes me think we've lacked talent outside maybe 20 players...

I’m going to cry if I end up seeing someone like Rex Hadnot, Lamar Smith, or Matt Roth on this list I am going to cry. We should be seeing players in this area like Troy Vincent who was solid, but didn’t play here for long.

And I if I see Billy Milner on this list I am going to send Bacon to wreak havoc…

Nah. I think that the list will start to get better real fast. First off we have a team that has been around just over 4 decades.

A lot of your top players played for close to a decade or more. There are also only 22 starters (24 if you include kickers and punters) and no team, not even the best has 22 studs starting for them. A lot of them are just role players. Also remember for a big chuck of time the team had arguably the best QB ever to play but lacked much if any star power elsewhere.

I know we had little star power...

But I take some credit away from players like Vincent because they had limited time with Miami. I don’t expect very good players here, but these are kind of run-of-the-mill type of players that are journeymen.

Still do the math.

If you say have a franchise for 40 years and say each starter plays an average of 10 years (I know the average life span in the NFL is much shorter) and every one of these starters is a stud top notch player (something that never happens) that would be 88 players.

I know, I know...

I just don’t like the thought that a player that may have been the 11th or 12th best player on the team at a given time, and the third best offensive lineman, would end up being one of our top 100 players ever.

Even if the list was 200 players...

If I found someone like Marc Colombo or Billy Milner on the list, I would send our resident monkey to kick you in the groin! There have been over 900 Dolphin players in their history and those two shouldn’t be in the top 750…

I'm kind of surprised how far out in the lead Webb is.

I knew it would be Webb followed by Long, but didn’t see it being a 55 point lead by Webb.

Any particular reason why you didn't think it would be by that much?

I knew there would be a few votes but at this point in Jake Longs career it has to be Richmond Webb. If JL plays at the same level (Pro Bowl/All-Pro) for another 4 years he then could be “crowned” as better than RW.

Because we are an instant gratification society.

Which is why we always want to declare a play or a player the best ever. Before his last Super Bowl, people were talking that, if Peyton Manning won a second ring, he would be the greatest QB to ever play the game.

Before this one, the talk was, if Tom Brady won, he would be the greatest QB ever.

You also have to figure, Webb left Miami in 2000. There are people on this site who have NEVER seen him play.

More proof you don’t need to draft a RT with a top 10 pick to get a good one. Bad value with a pick that high.

I think its funny that we have all these tackles on this list… and Wade who the piece is about wasnt even included lol… i realize he had no chance of winning but its odd to not see his name on the Poll when its technically because of him there is a poll haha

I still havn't heard of any of the people on this list...

At least there are still 94 to to…

…I wonder if Brandon Marshall will be on this list…?

Miami's Superstars: Reggie Bush, Brandon Marshall, Jake Long, Mike Pouncey, Karlos Dansby, Cameron Wake, Vontae Davis and Sean Smith (just wait), Lebron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Mike Stanton, Gaby Sanchez, Hanley Ramirez, Josh Johnson, Heath Bell, Mark Buehrle, Jose Reyes, Tomas Fleischmann, Stephen Weiss, Jose Theodore, and Chris Versteeg. :)

Maybe

we (he) should have just gone best 50 for this initial one lol. By the way, not a knock on the author, good reading and history. Especially during these football starved times we call the off season. But maybe 50 would have less fodder.
