Dolphins Fail to Get Offense or Defense Started in First Half, Trail New England 21-0 at Half

David Butler II-USA TODAY Sports

The Miami Dolphins trail the New England Patriots 21-0 at the half. Miami has been able to get the offense or defense started today, giving up 280 yards in the first half, while only gaining 86 yards themselves.

The Miami Dolphins are struggling to do anything against the New England Patriots today, with the offense and defense both non-existent so far. Miami trails 14-0 at the half.

The Dolphins defense has surrendered 280 yards already in the game, while Miami's offense has 106 yards. Simply put, the Patriots are dominating the Dolphins today.

Miami's rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill is just 7-for-13 for 95 yards, with an interception on the day. New England's Tom Brady is 14-for-22 for 193 yards with a touchdown.

The Dolphins have run the ball nine times, with Lamar Miller leading the way with 5 carries for 13 yards. Reggie Bush, who came into the game needing 40 yards for his second straight 1,000 yard rushing season, has 4 carries for just 1 yard.

The Dolphins offensive line has been hammered through the game, already giving up two sacks, two tackles for loss, and two quarterback hits. Seemingly every time Tannehill drops back to pass, he has a Patriots player in his face or around his feet. The lone interception in the game came on a play where Tannehill was hit up the middle as he tried to throw, resulting in a badly under thrown pass, which the Patriots caught and turned into their first touchdown of the day a few plays later.

Tannehill had thrown 140 straight passes without an interception, the active leader in the NFL.

The Dolphins have looked completely flat on the day, like a team that is simply playing one last game before they are done for the year. There's no desire for the team to reach 8-8, and prevent their fourth straight losing season. Something has to change at halftime, or the second 30 minutes will be even tougher to watch than the first.
