The Miami Dolphins faced the Seattle Seahawks today, in NFL Week 12 action. Miami came out of the game with a 24-21 win on last second field goal from Dan Carpenter. Rookie Quarterback Ryan Tannehill willed the team to victory this week.
The Dolphins struck first on the day, scoring on a 21 yard Reggie Bush touchdown run in the second quarter. Five minutes later, the Seahawks were able to tie the score with a three yard pass from rookie quarterback Russell Wilson to Anthony McCoy. The two teams went into the half tied at seven.
The third quarter saw Seattle take the lead with 4:11 remaining in the period, scoring on a 4 yard pass from Wilson to fullback Michael Robinson.
The fourth quarter completely changed the feel of the game, however. Miami opened the scoring in the period with a three yard run from Daniel Thomas, capping a 7 play, 82 yard drive. The Seahawks immediately responded, however, with a 98 yard kickoff return for a touchdown from Leon Washington.
Trailing 21-14, Miami's rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill took the team on his shoulders, and carried them back down the field to tie the game at 21. The six play, 80 yard drive ended on a 29-yard touchdown pass from Tannehill to Charles Clay.
After the Dolphins defense stepped up and ended a Seattle drive as it crossed midfield, Tannehill again came out on the field and took it straight to the Seahawks' defense. Tannehill directed a 65 yard drive on seven plays to put the Dolphins in position for a game winning field goal. Dan Carpenter connected on the 43 yard field goal as time expired and the Dolphins walked away with a 24-21 victory.
The Dolphins' defense kept the team in the game all day, stepping up to shut down Wilson, Marshawn Lynch, and the Seahawks attack all game long. Lynch, who came in the game with over 1,000 yards on the year and four straight 100 yard performances, was held to 46 yards on 19 carries on the day, with a long of 16 yards.
For the Dolphins, Reggie Bush ran for 87 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. Bush had been minimized in his offensive role the past few weeks, but came out and ran hard all day this week.
Wide receiver Davone Bess caught seven passes for a career high 129 yards. Clay, meanwhile, had six receptions for 84 yards and a touchdown. He caught all six passes thrown to him.
The defense was the strong point for the team this week, but the story really is the production from Ryan Tannehill and the offense late in the game. Tannehill stepped up and carried the team, and showed the flashes that make him look like the Dolphins may have finally answered their quarterback question.
The Dolphins improved to 5-6 on the season with the win, while the Seahawks are 6-5. Miami hosts the AFC East division leading New England Patriots next week.
