I have read on several of the posts about how are defense is playing fairly well in the red zone and limiting teams (especially Buffalo) to FG's. My question is: Do we want a defense that can keep the score relatively low, or guys who make plays?
It has now been 2 full games since we created a turnover. For a rookie QB, we must have a defense that can create opportunities to help us (the Jet game was a perfect example). Not only do we have guys playing defense that aren't creating turnovers, but we are giving up plays most teams would make. Here are a few plays that would have us still on the playoff path as bad as we have felt the last few days:
1) Dansby's dropped INT (This should actually be multiplied by 2 since he has had 2 almost great plays)
2) Fumble by Buffalo not recovered by us (I know that was somewhat luck, but it seems the other team always comes up with our mistakes)
3) Sean Smith not making the pick against Indy when he was free and should have had an easy jump ball. That ball I think was the "non-play" of the game, if not the season so far for the defense.
4) Missed tackles on 3rd and longs, that have lead to 1st downs and drives continuing (several in last 3 games)
I am not saying this to be negative, but we must have guys to make plays on both sides of the ball. What is good about our defense is our front 4 and I think Misi and Dansby are solid LB's. Our problem is we only have Wake and Starks that can make a play when we need a turnover it seems. I think Reshad Jones will be a great young safety with a better supporting cast in the future.
My question for you is who do you allow to leave or get rid of. I left off the guys that will be backups next year or should have been this year if not due to injuries (Carroll, Allen). Vote in the poll.
