Why hold back ??? The Wifey is sleeping soundly ( complete with occasional snore ) after a long 1st day. So here we go.
The Statue of Liberty has been on my radar for a long time now. So with us having ample time to see & do several things, she was a priority and our 1st stop. I was going there 1st regardless of the weather which called for showers but turned out to be a beautiful sunny morning. We left from Liberty State Park in NJ, which is great urban green space that boasts 100+ acres that was once a major rail yard 50 years. Interesting to see the before & after pictures.
I failed to mention that M.M. talked his buddy into joining him,..........
Needless to say, they were both pretty excited as it was their 1st boat ride. And the views,....amazing ! NYC's skyline,......massive !!!
Once on the island one learns about creator/sculptor Bartholdi who needed Eiffel ( builder of the tower that bears his name) to design and build the frame, & Pulitzer who mobilized fundraising for the pedestal for the statue to sit upon. it was truly amazing to here all the stories and to final see her up close & personal.
She's our Lady Liberty, a symbol of freedom.
Yeah,....I should have cropped my hand out,....but I'm tired,....and lazy right about now.
Inside the gift shop we got to meet Mr Bartholdi. A thick french accent speaking perfect english yet never blinking his eyes,....weird.
She was made in America, while I'm sure he was not. However, since M.M. has been hanging with me he has seen a fair amount of this great country of ours. And sat on Morgan Freeman's shoulder,.....
Day one is a wrap after finishing off the evening by taking in a Broadway show.
Just one more thing,.......jets SUCK !!!
