WTF

This is so weird. Just as I’m starting to come around to Philbin; I’m thinking maybe this deal with him and Matt Flynn could be a great idea.

Now it looks like IF we hire him we hire a lot of baggage and negative media attention.

Can we never win?

Oh, and just because I never get the chance to do this…

No well wishes from my end
The young Philbin has a troubled past. He was sentenced to six months in jail in 2009 for sexually assualting two under-age girls

He was a troubled kid that did some horrible things but you hope for the best for the family.

That being said the fact that they are now dragging an icy river looking for his body is not a good sign.

I don't dispute that but he has a family that cares about him all the same that will be hurt terribly by this.

Not really thinking about him as if he is gone, he is gone but have sympathy for the family all the same.

Patssuck you don't know the details of that situation though.

That crime could have ranged anywhere from heinous and violent molestation of a young kid, to a having sex with a girl who told him she was over the age of consent (which is 18 in Wisconsin a very high age). I doubt you know the details so It is dangerous to presume anything.

Either way he would be at fault obviously but the context of the crime should be known before making those statements IMO.

Naw I remember this

he straight up raped 2 girls that passed out at his party. He’s a scum bag. I feel bad for his family though.

I feel bad for his family as well and my sympathy goes out for them.

As for that I never heard about it. I never knew that Joe Philibin’s son was a convicted sex offender. I didn’t even know Joe Philibin had a son to be honest.

Im not saying that you are wrong here but I have never heard that.

Here's some info
One of the victims said that after she passed out from intoxication, Michael Philbin “performed an act of sexual intercourse against her will,” in the family’s living room.

The second victim, who also admitted being intoxicated to the point of passing out, alleged that after Michael Philbin helped her to the bed in the master bedroom, he undressed her and “performed an act of sexual intercourse on her without her consent.”

Yeah I thought I included it

in that post, guess I didn’t. To be clear, I do hope he is okay, I don’t wish harm to anyone. But based on what he was convicted of doing I think he is a scum bag.

by cubman987 on Jan 9, 2012 4:43 PM EST up reply actions

As much as I dont condone ANY of this.

It is still vague stuff. These girls were intoxicated at his party.

Its says " after Michael Philibin helped her to the bed in the master bedroom, he undressed her and “performed an act of sexual intercourse on her without her consent.”"

Helped her implies that she was able to walk somewhat and was conscious. But the line before states that she was “intoxicated to the point of passing out.”

Remember that legally speaking “consent” could have simply meant her age. Her age forbids her from giving consent. He was under the age of consent as well (which in no way condones his actions whatever they were) Essentially it is muddy territory we only know so much and Im reluctant to make any judgement on it.

The only one I will make is that he he was in the wrong no matter what exactly happened that much is clear and that the context of the crime is still limited to us.

My sympathies go out to his family.

i mean yeah none of us were there but it doesn't sound like the kid is an angel

nonetheless he doesn’t deserve to die and his family shouldn’t have to bury their son.
Hope it gets resolved and hopefully the kid will have an opportunity to possibly learn from this.

only 6 month in jail

If he only got 6 month in jail the police must have thought it was a tricky case, I don’t know american law, but 6 month for litterally raping two underaged girls, sounds like a small punishment

True colors

Sadly in life it usually takes tragedies like this for example to show people’s true colors. And this just showed how ignorant some people are. None of us are God and while I don’t condone his behavior, I would never say he deserved this. Do I think he is a scumbag- sure, but who are we to decide another man’s fate?

by miamimike71 on Jan 10, 2012 7:15 AM EST via mobile reply actions

This is a terrible tragedy for the Philbin family, but one wonders how this will affect coaching searches throughout the NFL.

Will Joe decide he wants to change jobs in the middle of a family crisis?

Will he decide that his mental state might have an effect on his coaching performance this year?

Will prospective GMs trust that it won"t have an effect?

Will his mental state actually have an effect, regardless of whether he leaves Green Bay?

Remember, the league year starts in two months, and the grieving process can take a lot longer than that.
