PrintThe Miami Dolphins have been interviewing multiple candidates for their head coach vacancy over the past week. Now it's time to see who, of those candidates we like best. Is it the team's top choice Jeff Fisher? Maybe the interim head coach Todd Bowles should stay? What about Chicago Bears special teams coach Dave Toub or Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin? Today word came out that the team will be interviewing Mike Mularkey, former Dolphins and current Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator. Would you like him?

Because of the lack of leadership in the players on this team, I believe that they need a strong leader as HC.
Fisher is the only one out there that fits that bill and he is the best choice for this job.

Some player has too. True leaders won't let their team lose 7 in a row at the beginning of the year.
True leaders make plays and will their teams to wins that they probably shouldn’t get. The reason this past season was such a failure was due in large part to lack of leadership, IMO.

Jason Taylor was part of our horrible 1-15 season as well as some other leaders, i believe Zach Thomas as well

I just think Brian Billick brings instant credibility
even if Ross hires him for 2-3 years, he will bring in quality assistant coaches. The other guys are unproven and too risky. Maybe Ireland hates Billick, but they should interview him at least. I think he’s better than Fisher.

I say hire Philbin and keep Mike Nolan, i love Nolan’s defense its xciting to watch please dont get Fisher with his boring 4-3 that got toasted 59-0 by New England. Fisher couldnt even get a field goal, thats sad

Panthers OC Rob Chudzinski…In my opinion it aint even close with the other candidates..
Miami should not hire a coach because of a big name, but instead hire the right fit. The NFL is now a pass first league. Saints, Packers, Patriots, and Giants all made the playoffs with a Top 5 pass offense and a bottom 5 pass defense.
Chud was the OC for the Cleveland Browns back when they went 10-6 with QB Derek Anderson, WR Braylon Edwards, and TE Kellen Winslow all went to the pro bowl and have not been back to one since. He also was the OC assistant for the San Diego Chargers last year and ranked 1st in total offense.
He also won a NCAA Championship with the Miami Hurricanes in 2001 as their OC. And now he was in charge of the Panthers offense ,with QB Cam Newton a rookie, that only scored 16 total tds last year but scored over 40 tds in 2011.
Miami needs an offensive minded coach to take this team to the next level. Just like New Orleans with Sean Payton and Green Bay with Mike McCarthy. The last time i checked both of those teams are doing well. The defense is fine if they keep Mike Nolan. They were one of the best defense the last 8 games.

Coach Bowles knows what he needs to do. We do not need another college coach! I say give Coach Bowles a chance! We can keep Nolan too.

Fisher 1st wow i think not
look how Peyton Manning scorches his Titan defense year after year. We dont need sum1 else getting scorched by Tom Brady. look what New England did to his Offense and Defense last time the Titans played 59-0. Sparano scored more points with Henne at QB than Fisher did against New England. Fisher is the wise guy who waived Lagarrette Blount for a potential practice squad player. And now look wat he’s doing for Tampa Bay. He will miss in the draft for us also. Move Philbin to #1 on your list and Rob Chudzinski shuld be sumwhere in ther

If we go the Flynn road, then bring Philbin
Philbin could make the signing of Flynn easier and cheaper. Then we can trade up for the WR Justin Blackmon. I will be happy with that scenario if RG3 or Luck are not on our team this year.

I'm starting to favour this more and more.
Trade down, nab dwayne Allen, an RT and an OLB and boom, makings of a good team.
but then the problem becomes
how do we get a QB? If we don’t get one this year, and instead begin to stockpile talent, we are going to be just good enough (again) to miss on the franchise QB’s in 2013’s draft. We will end up debating whether or not we should trade up from pick 15 because we finished 8-8.
At some point, we are going to have to make a move for a QB. Better to do that sooner than later. QB has a longer “prime,” and usually takes longer to become elite than RB’s, WR’s, and everything else. So you get your QB, he gets a couple years to ascend to greatness, and in those 2 years you add immediate contributors around him. Get the QB now, get the skill players later. Dwayne Allen is in every draft. Trent Richardson is in every draft. Great offensive linemen are in every draft.

What im saying is about bringing a(looks like) wining combo in GB. Flynn have shown some very respecfull stats under Philbin supervision. Thats why im saying that IF we go that way(Flynn), then bring Philbin and draft another monters WR for him. Thats the ONLY way i will fell happy for our chances next year, if NOT then BRING RG3 or Luck AT ALL COST!!

The point is Philbin knows all about Flynn. If he’s appointed HC and wants to bring Flynn, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Is Hasselbeck and Brunell, years and years ago.. I’m pretty sure both of them were developed under Holmgren. We can say look at Philly because they always have backups perform well and then trade them..
I don’t see a winning combo with Philbin and Flynn. The winning combo in GB is McCarthy and Rodgers. Philbin and Flynn are along for the ride

So was Steve Young and so was Aaron Rodgers.
If you’re argument is that Flynn was not a high college prospect and drafted in the LATE rounds…. Well so was Tom Brady.
If we have a possible talented QB who isn’t getting a shot because of who stands in front of him and we can bring in a coach that knows how to implement the system that works well for him….Then why not give it a shot?

What I like about Flynn is that he has a great QB in front of him.
Just young did with Montana.
Just like Rodgers did with Farvre.
Just like Brady did with Bledsoe.
I believe in GBs talent… And I believe Flynn can be a beast.
Get Philbin in here along with Flynn and lets light this candle!!!

We set at RB, but LaMichael James in the West Coast Offense with coach Philbin does look enticing. Him and Reggie Bush can team up nice and Daniel Thomas can become our bruiser back like Benjarvis Green Ellis has become for the Patriots or perhaps a Ben Tate of Houston type of back. We need a safety for sure, maybe we can get Laron Landry or Michael Griffin

Bunch of Mularky I agree... but Toub isn't.

but it’s a rarity, not the norm, for a guy to jump from Special Teams to Head Coach. We’ll see. I would definitely take him over Mularky though.

but vince young made the pro bowl both years where 3 qb’s including the reserves got injured and he replaced them. Fisher is also very conservative and was the same guy who said britt and moss don’t work on the same field. I have a friend who is a titans fan and he told me this. Go and Get Brian Billick!!

If it wasn't for P. Manning, Dungy would be seen as one of the worst HCs ever.
His D was only ever good against the pass and he never built an OL around his QB. He also never had a very successful ground game.

if it wasn't for Manning...
Dungy still built a powerhouse in Tampa. The defense he installed and built there is one of the 3 best defenses in NFL history, and carried Gruden and a mediocre QB to a Super Bowl title.
And, you forget starting in Dungy’s 2nd year in Indy, Edgerrin James ripped off 3 straight 1200+ yard seasons, including 2 over 1500 yards. hmm..
the 2006 Super Bowl champion Colts had 2 Pro Bowlers on the OL (Glenn and Saturday), and Jake Scott, the guy many people want as a FA this year.. That OL helped Joseph Addai to 4.8 yards a carry and 1081 yards, and surrendered 15 sacks, #1 in the NFL that year..
True, his defense wasn’t good against the run (worst in the league in 06), but they were one of the best against the pass, which is what mattered because the offense gave them the lead and scored so many points.

Let's see, The Tampa Bucs were a great D, but had a mediocre O. (See Dolphins early 2000s)
Then when he got his QB, he went crazy with passing the ball. The reason Dungy and Manning only won one SB was because of a mixture of lack of balance on the O and a piss poor D.
The Colts pass the ball to setup the run.
So, while Dungy has done wonders with each side of the ball, it was only one at a time. I’d like to have a dominant O with an aggressive D at the same time.

Name a team with a dominant offense AND dominant defense. It’s practically impossible to do. Teams can be dominant on defense and one aspect of the offense (Ravens super bowl team), or be a dominant offense with a defense that is good in one area (09 Saints, defense forced alot of turnovers). You are saying Dungy is not a good coach because he a) only won one super bowl, and b) never had the perfect football team? Ridiculous. Lol you’re a funny character.

Not many teams have Manning as a QB.
Look at what BB did with Brady. Multiple SBs and built a great team that always went deep in the playoffs.

Your disrespecting a defense that featured great defensive players the year they won the super bowl such as Dwight Freeney, Robert Mathis, Bob Sanders, Antoine Bethea, Kelvin Hayden, Gary Brackett and Raheem Brock. They had alot of turnovers the year they won the Super Bowl. And their defense held up against the Patriots to make it to the Bowl

I like that.. But would do this instead.. Sign Chud as head coach, trade down in 1st and get an extra 2nd rounder, draft RB Lamar Miller in 1st, then TE Allen, and then a RG/RT. get a OLB in the 3rd.. The Saints, Patriots, and Packers all have and abundance of playmakers why not copy them.
Bush and Miller would be awesome together in the backfield and then they get Fasano some help at TE with Allen.
Chud’s offense uses the TE position as a primary target. These are all of the guys he has coached at TE: Kellen Winslow,Jr., Jeremy Shockey, Greg Olsen, and Antonio Gates.

Todd Bowles – NO – couldn’t even get a handle on our d-backs, how’s he gonna run the team.
Jeff Fisher – NO – we brought him in and he balked, if he doesn’t want to be here we don’t want him.
Dave Toub – NO – special teams???, not much of a job when you have Devin Hester (the U) returning punts.
Mike Mularkey – NO – already had him here once, besides that Atlanta O completely fell apart.
I like Joe Philbin, Rob Chudzinski, Rick Dennison, and Jay Gruden all have shown they can work with QBs but do they have what it takes to run a team?
A guy I really like is Russ Grimm, think he would bring the leadership and respect we’ve been missing. Keep Daboll, I’m giving him a pass for his first year. And certainly keep Nolan.
