To be the 1st to speak on the game, I will say that it was impressive last night from Luck's game. He made some nice progressions, reads, scrambles and throws. I seen a little of it all last night.
But lets all be honest too, while he did make a lot of good passes he was doing a lot of short underneath plays and check downs and anyone that says otherwise is lying to themselves and anyone else, BUT not to take anything away from that HE TOOK WHAT THE DEFENSE GAVE HIM... Which is what a QB is supposed to do, not force the issue and take what they give, he let the run set up the pass and vice versa.
Now while this is all good for Luck, I still think IMHO that he will still be an AVE qb in the league DEPENDING ON WHAT TEAM AND OFFENSIVE SYSTEM he goes to, if he goes to a spread offense he will suceed, if he goes to a ball control type offense like what we had here he will be an ave QB and I think I have explained my AVE QB situation before but let me do so once again before anyone gets their panties in a bunch..
I think most would agree that this year there are only about 3 elite QBs in the NFL this year, Rodgers, Brees, Brady, with the next level above average QBs closely following behind "Eli, Ryan, Stafford (this year), Romo (hate to say that). Then you have the ave QBs that fall into the 18-26 TD range area but still have ints closer to their TD #'s, Big Ben, Cam, Vick, Rivers, Sanchez and the MAJORITY of the rest of the league, then you have the ones that just are below ave, which depending on coaching and scheduling can have a good year or bad year at any given time, (Cassell comes to mind here, 24 or so TDS last year, not good this year)-
That being said, would I break the bank in an attempt to get Luck and give away main pieces like Marshall, Bush, Long?? NO, not at all. Dont think he is worth all that, you would give up know commodities for some unproven risk?? Not good business (bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush right?) Who would we get to replace any of these people?? We had to trade to get Marshall here after everyone was crying so long that we didnt have a real #1 WR, we get one then send out Ginn and we lose momentum? So we would go after Luck to get rid of someone that would be his main protection, WR or RB?? That would put us back to looking for players again, We have the players now, use what we got to get what we can get, the amount of QBs coming out this year are of good stock and hopefully we will get a good # in the draft so we can get one of them, Jones, RG3, someone that will fall to that area instead of pulling a Mike Ditka for RW type situation..
Congrats Luck for the good game, but not worth the bank to get
