Come on Ireland, make some moves!
We all want the same thing, for Miami to be a contender year in and year out. We all have our own opinions and ideas of what we would like to see happen. I thought I'd share mine. Long time fan, long time reader of this site, this is my first post. Hope you enjoy! Go Dolphins!
Free Agency
Obviously we'll resign some of our players and target others, but signing these three will be key:
#1 Matt Flynn -
I know A LOT of people aren't high on signing Flynn because he hasn't "proved" himself, he sucked in college, he was a 7th round pick, etc, etc, etc, but neither were quite a few people when Green Bay said later Favre in lieu of Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers sat behind Favre for 3 or 4 years before he took the reins. What a concept, he sat and developed behind a pro bowler and groomed/fine tuned his game. WOW, maybe, just maybe, Flynn did the same thing? Hmmm, we'll see because I believe Flynn, will be a Phin! He will already know the offense for the most part and that will provide a great start to OTA's and Training Camp.
#2 Ben Grubbs -
I think Nicks will be too expensive. This right here would give us one of the best OL's in the game!
How does this sound... Long, Grubbs, Pouncey, Incognito, Jerry/Murtha
#3 Reggie Nelson -
We need a ball hawk and he did great in Cincinnati last year, hopefully he comes over with our new DC. He will already know the playbook on D giving him a head start just like Flynn. Then I would move Jimmy Wilson to SS. He is only 10 lbs less then Yeremiah, but hits just as hard.
Draft
Okay so this might be farfetched and unlikely, but hey it could happen and be just the type of draft we need! Come on Ireland, grow some balls and make some moves! Ok here we go:
Round 1, pick 5 - Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State
Miami trades UP 3 spots with Tampa Bay. They receive our 1st round pick this year, Brian Hartline, and Yeremiah Bell.
Round 1, pick 28 - Dwayne Allen, TE, Clemson
Miami Trades with Green Bay moving up 10 spots to get back into the first round. Green Bay gets our 2nd round pick this year and next year's 3rd.
Round 3 - Sean Spence, LB, Miami
If he falls this far this would be a great pick up! Imagine Dansby, Burnett, and Spence. I just got chills!
Round 4 - Kheeston Randall, DE/DT, Texas
A solid prospect that will provide depth along the DL.
Round 5 - Travis Benjamin, WR, Miami
Goodbye Marlon Moore, Roberto Wallace, and Julius Pruitt! Say hello to our new KR/PR starting day one!
Round 6 - Best available G
Round 7 - Best available DL
If all this was to happen, what do you think of this starting lineup?
OFFENSE

This is my first post, so if this should've been a fan shot I apologize. I read the articles and posts on this site daily and you'll do a great job. I get more up to date info on this site then I do from ESPN! Well, I hope you like what I came up with. In the end, we are all Madden GM's! :)

I'm curious as to why the Bucs would want Hartline and Bell
Also, where are we going to get the money for Langford if we sign Flynn, Grubbs, and Nelson. Somebody out of that lot has to go, most likely Grubbs, which means we have to draft an OL.
The Bucs have a terrible receiving corps
and not much in the way of a secondary. I could see it happening, but I think we’d have to give up Wilson or Jones instead.
I think it’s more likely that trade happens than getting GB’s second for our 2nd and next years 3rd.
More of Moore in 2012!
Coples for our new 4-3!
'Phins phor Liphe!
So we are going to trade a second and a third and get a first???

Yeah, that's where he lost me as well.
If it was only moving up 2-3 slots, maybe. But not 10 slots.
I used to think I had a drinking problem.
So I stopped thinking.
Yeah you could pull that off with a future pick or a useful player for the other team thrown in but not like that.

Take it easy on me lol
Well instead of Grubbs there is always Jake Scott… and who are the Bucs starters at WR and S? I’m not an ESPN analyst, I wast just adding them as a way to clear cap space and to sweeten the deal to move up 3 spots… As far as trading a 2nd and a 3rd to get a first, uh yeah. We have to move up 10 spots back into the 1st round. So we give this years 2nd and next year’s 3rd to move up to get a TE that is the best in this year’s draft. Seems like a good deal to me… Or are you saying that isn’t enough? Like I said I am just an avid fan, not an ESPN analyst or gurus like most of your guys. This is just what I’d like to see. Sorry it took so long to defend my post, but I was watching Real Steel (cool ass movie, check it out) and getting some head lol! Priorities ya know! – Diesel
Boom!
No need to defend your post as its all opinion but with that you always get the counter opinion.
Either way you will most likely have to give up more then that for that first round pick. You might be able to do it with a second a player that we have that is expendable but valuable to another team and a late round pick. Also depending on the player you give up it might not require that later pick. Too many variables to really say but the 2nd and 3rd alone will not most likely do it.

Are you saying Jimmy Wilson should be our starting SS?

I don't think it is that much of a stretch...
I think he could definitely play there… although maybe not this year… Bell still has a bit left in the tank and I think we should ride him til the wheels fall off.
We had [Brady] down… but we didn’t kick him. We helped him up and gave him a PowerPuff Girls band-aid for his knee. What exactly did you expect would happen when we did that?

Wilson as a FS... maybe
It’d be more likely Wilson goes to FS and Jones moves to SS.

Yes...
I think if we get Reggie Nelson, puting Jimmy Wilson at SS would give us a sick Safety duo. Wilson is a good tackler and seems to always be in the right place. He did miss a few plays, but that will happen as a rookie. But I saw him make a lot more plays, than miss.
Boom!

Sorry, I just don't see SS being in Wilson's future. Not even in 10 years. FS maybe...
I still thnk Jones would be more likely to move over, especially since Wilson may be competing for nickel CB this year. We’d lose some key depth by moving him.

No trade up!
There is no reason for Miami to trade up for Allen as there are a lot of good TE in this draft. I am hoping Miami draft egnew in the third round. Miami would also be better off trading down out of the #9 spot. Miami has bigger needs than WR and you won’t see Miami take a WR in the first round. There are a few good WR’s that will be available as undrafted free agents. And Miami needs a CB bad. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a CB taken in the first 3 round of the draft. That would give Philbin the opportunity to move Sean Smith to FS.
Didn't Matt Flynn win a national championship or something?
I think he was also the MVP of the national championship game too… I don’t know if he will be the guy or not yet, but I wouldn’t say that the guy sucked in college…
I am all for drafting a guy like Blackmon if he falls to us.. but I don’t think he will. I also do not like the idea of trading up to # 5 to take a WR, when we could trade up to #3 or #2 and get a QB in all likelihood. If we trade up to take anything other than a QB… I think the fans will be upset, even if we already have a franchise guy.
That said, I could see us going after Coples if he drops to us(doubt it) or Melvin Ingram. I honestly believe that Misi can be the guy to bring the heat on the other side, but it is not possible to have TOO many pash rushers… ask the Giants about that… I also don’t think we need a FS, we have 2 young guys back there that can do the job once they learn how to play back there from someone who has averaged 14.77 INTs for his DBs over the past 9 seasons. That is sustained success and tells you that it probably does not have to do with the personnel involved nearly as much as it does the coaching.
We had [Brady] down… but we didn’t kick him. We helped him up and gave him a PowerPuff Girls band-aid for his knee. What exactly did you expect would happen when we did that?
no, but Rogers didn't and Brady was backup almost all his development
Flynn deserve an opportunity, with him could be more the earning that the risks.
He will have as first option stay in Philbin offense system, and for that he could sign a 2 year deal for 8 mill or less (guaranteed around 2 mill)
In a different context but was the same history when Bress could be a Dolphin
Bress was a more proved QB, but the risks send us in other direction…
but yes… the human was the only animal who can commits the same error twice
Yes he did. He quarterbacked LSU in the 2007 season.
On January 7, 2008, Flynn led LSU to a BCS National Championship, beating Ohio State 38-24. Flynn was named offensive MVP of the game and the Tigers were ranked an undisputed #1 in the polls. As much as I hate to admit he also quarterbacked LSU to a 40-3 2005 Peach Bowl victory over my Hurricanes.

Flynn did win a national championship at LSU his senior year...
That was the point I was making … It is not like the guy sucked in college… he just didn’t make people believe he was the 1st overall pick because he was playing behind Jamarcus Russell in college.. who did do pretty well in college so you can’t fault Flynn for that.
We had [Brady] down… but we didn’t kick him. We helped him up and gave him a PowerPuff Girls band-aid for his knee. What exactly did you expect would happen when we did that?

Compare...
I’m sure at one time people in GB said dont compare Rodgers to Favre, but now look… and I know Flynn wasn’t a first round pick. But neither was Tom Brady!… I think it’s time for the Phins to get our “Brady”. Maybe Flynn is it? We’ll see cause I think there is an 80% chance he is a Phin.
Boom!

He was a game manager who won a national championship... so theres that...
I don’t think anyone here is telling anyone that he is the next Aaron Rodgers, but if Philbin, the guy who saw him every day in practice since the day he was drafted, believes that he is a franchise QB… I have no problem with us going all in on the guy.
We had [Brady] down… but we didn’t kick him. We helped him up and gave him a PowerPuff Girls band-aid for his knee. What exactly did you expect would happen when we did that?

I dont support Flynn, but as for the rest...
its pretty good, however I really cannot see our FO trading into the top 5 to take a WR especailly with what we are already spending on BM. I know contract wise, Blackmon isnt too expensive, but trading up will cost us at least a few picks. That coupled with the contract, what we already pay BM, and the fact that we do not have a Franchise QB makes this Blackmon too expensive. The only way I see us trading up is for a QB. Also, what makes you think Blackmon will drop to #5? The Rams, Vikings, Browns, and Bucs all need a #1 WR. IMO, someone will bite on him before #5. So, we may have to trade up even higher for Blackmon which will cost even more picks…
In Pat we Trust

Why not...
BM is getting close to 30 yo. Imagine having BM and Blackmon lined up at the same time. Who are you going to double? It would be a nightmare. And by the time BM isn’t the same BM anymore and up there in age, Blackmon is in his prime and slides into #1 role. I think it would be an awesome move to trade up a few spots to get him (IF we already have signed Flynn or Manning in FA).Imagine the excitement that would generate. I’d be freaking out. We have a great defense. We need an offense that team would be afraid of
Boom!

30 years old is not washed up for a WR the way it is for a RB...
A RB takes a whole lot more beating than a WR does… An elite WR can easily play until they are 38-40 if they don’t burn all their bridges before then… lol

I agree
That we need another stud across from The Beast. Either draft one in the first round or hope that Gates breaks out this year under our new offensive system. We also need a weapon at TE. Fasano is not it.
