Is that what Marshall does with Pro Bowl QB's?
Ahem...I would like to wish Peyton Manning a speedy recovery. Marshall had 6 TD's all season with Henne/Moore and 4 TD's in this Pro Bowl (so far! Still time for a 5th). I know, people could say the defenders might not try quite as hard in the pro bowl (Cornerbacks though? I think they do) but you can tell the passes into the end zone are so much better to Marshall than most of the ones we've seen. (Plus, I can say the same thing about offensive players not trying as hard) The Pro Bowl has been around since way before the merger and nobody has ever had 4 TD's.
The best thing about Marshall's record breaking performance tonight is everyone in the Dolphins coaching staff and front office has to be seeing it. I know they've said publicly that they need a star QB...but to now see that the Dolphins may be wasting a top WR in his prime by not having a top QB throwing to him is icing on the cake. Could push up the sense of urgency even further. And Marshall himself when being interviewed said the difference is better passes and QB's. Matt Moore you're okay, but sorry, he's a backup...we still kick too many Field Goals with him.
I guess for now we should just have faith they will get that QB by any means necessary, and that it's not just talk.
Oh, and I don't think Marshall would be the top WR in the league with a healthy Manning or a top young QB...but I do think he would be much better if the passes were better and more consistent.

yeah with Flynn and Tannehill you have 2 potential franchise QBs
Manning and Tannehill you get a here and now solution and the future. soo agreed

thats the most posible option...
Get Flynn in FA was pretty possible, all because on men: Joe Philbin
and Draft Tannehill… in draft day all thing could happens:
He could be available when we are in the clock for 2nd round, or Trade down and secure him with a low first round
But I start to believe that’s the shot for this FO this off season, get 2 young and talented QB’s
It wouldn't have mattered who threw the ball this past season.
A dropped pass is a dropped pass, and Marshall was one of the league leaders.

This isnt a surprise
Marshall was unstoppable when he had a guy like Cutler throwing him the ball.
I probably know Judo! How many of you can make the same boast?
You realize he had his best season with Orton throwing him the ball right?

Either way they are both not even that good
And, for that year at least, Orton was a solid QB
Gotta disagree.
Cutler is playing behind the worst O-Line in the league with no #1 receiver and no TE. Yet, he led his team to a 7-3 record before getting injured. Cutler is the real deal.

"I'm not trying hard.."
That is what everyone says when they are getting the crap beat out of them, and the game doesn’t count. I saw some of it out there at the beginning of the game.. people were playing sloppy. But when someone lines up against you to try to beat you, you can’t just turn it off and let them get by you… If you are made up like that, you never make it to the NFL.
We had [Brady] down… but we didn’t kick him. We helped him up and gave him a PowerPuff Girls band-aid for his knee. What exactly did you expect would happen when we did that?
Well then...
If most of those Pro Bowlers were really trying hard and that is what they give, they won’t be back in the Pro Bowl next year.

It's not Marshall with a Pro Bowl QB...
It’s one player going hard when the rest of the players are half-assing it. There were plenty of opportunities all game where defenders like Revis could make plays, but they put on the brakes instead.

He didn't say anything
that Jeff Ireland and Stephen Ross haven’t said since the season ended. The Dolphins have to get better QB play. This is no secret and Brandon Marshall saying it doesn’t all of a sudden bring it to light, EVERYONE knew that QB is the highest priority. And he’s right, could ANY of the QB’s he’s played with on the Dolphins throw him a pass like the one that Rothlesberger threw him on the 75 yard TD? Could ANY of the QB’s he’s played with drop a damn touch pass into his hands out of the way of a defender like Dalton did? The answer is NO.

Yep
He has always dropped a lot of passes, just like other top WRs like Roddy White. You take the good and the bad, but also, the top WRs generally have more drops because they have the most targets.

No, they actually don't.
Calvin Johnson and Wes Welker were targeted more than anybody last year. Neither of them have ever been in the top 10 in dropped passes. The same could be said about Andre Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald. I also wouldn’t put Marshall in the same classification as White and TO. Sure they both drop just as many passes, but they both make plays when it matters. They put points on the board. Marshall has yet to prove he can be that guy.
I used to think I had a drinking problem.

The point is.......
Even in a bad year, Wes Welker doesn’t even finish in the top 10. Whereas finishing in the top 10 is the status quo for Marshall.
I used to think I had a drinking problem.

Welker had more drops.
And there are great players that don’t typically drop a lot like Johnson and Fitzgerald, but still, I’m just pointing out that the many of them are among the tops in drops.

In one year, yes.
Now I will agree typically that the top receivers will be higher on the list, due to more balls thrown their way. My argument though is that the Elite WR’s in the league aren’t on that list, or at least if they do come close, it’s an exception rather than the rule.
I used to think I had a drinking problem.
So I stopped thinking.
I don't agree with that.
You see a lot of common names on the list that people would consider elite WRs like DeSean Jackson, Steve Smith (Car), and Roddy White that appear year after year as well. If you take a look at the most dropped passes in 2011, here are the names:
Roddy White, Dwayne Bowe, Greg Little, Wes Welker, Brandon Marshall, Jermichael Finley, Nate Burleson, Dallas Clark, DeSean Jackson, Jerome Simpson, Anquan Boldin, Antonio Brown, Michael Crabtree, Victor Cruz, Brandon Gibson, and Hakeem Nicks. Those are the top 15 and most of those guys are very, very good.
But hey, Andre Johnson dropped just as many passes as Marshall in 2009 and Calvin Johnson dropped more. So some of those other elite WRs you mentioned did get close to Marshall.
- Attempting to debate with a person who has abandoned reason is like giving medicine to the dead.

Contributing Writer to the The Phinsider
You really think Roddy and DeSean are elite?????
Roddy is even worse than Marshall at dropping passes. I don’t even need to go into DeSean Jackson. After his antics this year, he killed any chance he had at an elite status.
I agree with you on this statement:
Those are the top 15 and most of those guys are very, very good.
Yes, they are all very good, but not elite. With the exception of Welker, who had a bad year in terms of drops. Cruz has a chance to join the ranks if he can keep up the production and eliminate the drops.
But hey, Andre Johnson dropped just as many passes as Marshall in 2009 and Calvin Johnson dropped more. So some of those other elite WRs you mentioned did get close to Marshall.
As I said before:
My argument though is that the Elite WR’s in the league aren’t on that list, or at least if they do come close, it’s an exception rather than the rule.
Every receiver has a bad year at one point or another. The point is while they had just as many or more than Marshall one year, they didn’t repeat that performance the following year. Whereas Brandon Marshall has his entire career. That’s what separates an Elite WR from the very good.
I used to think I had a drinking problem.
So I stopped thinking.
My point was that in 2009, Marshall wasn't in the top 10 either.
As for White, many do consider him to be elite and very, very good. For me, he makes it close to being in the top 5 WRs, but I’m not sure he’s there. I also never said Marshall was elite, but I wouldn’t have a problem trying to consider him a top 10 WR.
As for DeSean Jackson, his antics were over the top and hurt his team, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t one of the best talents at WR.
- Attempting to debate with a person who has abandoned reason is like giving medicine to the dead.

Contributing Writer to the The Phinsider
*Cough* Everyone else on that list has a reputable QB if not elite....does that mean, maybe just maybe Brandon Drops off/lower on this list with a real QB.

by Hollywood Dolfan on Feb 4, 2012 3:59 AM EST up reply actions
So basically what you're trying to say.....
Is that Marshall’s exception to the rule is the one year he doesn’t finish in the top 10 in drops. I agree Marshall and White are both very, very good WR’s. But I would not consider either of them top 5, and borderline top 10.
As for DeSean Jackson, his antics were over the top and hurt his team, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t one of the best talents at WR.
Talent does you no good if you can’t get on the field to use it. Call it the TO syndrome.

I would say White is borderline top 5 for sure.
Marshall could be argued to be put in the top 10. As for Jackson, he’s had the one year where his stupid antics hurt him and his team. He may drop close to 20% of his passes, but there is little doubt he’s one of the best WRs (put him in the top 10 range as well) in the NFL and is one of the biggest offensive weapons.

Talent isn't everything.
Look at T.O., all the talent in the world and he can’t even get a team to come watch him workout. And even though he’ll be turning 39 this year he’s still better than some teams starting WRs, and most teams back-ups. Yet he’s an afterthought because of that attitude. DeSean Jackson is on that same path. No doubt he has talent, but talent alone does not make you a top 10 WR in the NFL.
The reason I don’t consider Marshall or White top 10 WRs in the NFL is because when you need them to catch the ball, they’re a liability. They may both put up really good numbers, but I’ll take someone with slightly less numbers who doesn’t drop the ball. Because that’s a person you can trust to catch the ball when it matters.

Ha! TO just signed a deal to play with the "Allen Wranglers". A local indoor football
league team that I was not even aware of until he signed.
In December 2011 the Wranglers made an offer to unemployed NFL receiver Terrell Owens for part ownership in the team and up to $500,000 for participation in the 2012 season. Team general manager and former Dallas Cowboys receiver Drew Pearson made the offer, which is apparently within league rules. On January 18, 2012, Owens announced via Twitter that he had accepted the Wranglers’ offer and joined their ownership group, with an official press conference to take place the following week.
I am sure that for most here 500K is a huge amount but to a guy like him its nothing. Also he now claims to be broke and friendless. He of course takes no blame at all for the issues and blames them all on others. What a douche!

stop making excuses... we proved you wrong...
I will also point out that Welker has less drops because his QB doesn’t throw him the ball right before he is going to get flattened because he is locked in on him from the snap. You can’t remove all the other factors and just break it down a percentage of drops… that is just silly. I know you watched Dolphins games too… You saw how they were always right on Marshall every single time he caught the ball. When was the last time you saw Welker get flattened as soon as he caught the ball? I don’t watch many Pats games, but I remember that crap happened to him all the time back when he was in Miami … I was glad to see him good even though I knew he was a playmaker. I was honestly afraid someone was going to kill the guy… and I really don’t want to see that happen to someone…

You proved me wrong?
And exactly how did you do that? You’ve proved nothing but a perverse view of what an elite WR is. You say I’m making excuses then you start going off on how it’s the QBs fault Marshall is dropping so many passes???? Don’t be a hypocrite. I’m not breaking this down by percentages. I’m simply stating a FACT. Brandon Marshall leads all NFL WRs in dropped passes since he’s been in the league. That is not an elite WR IMO.
As for watching the games, maybe you need to re-watch the last 5 years worth of games of Brandon Marshall. He’s had 5 different QBs throwing him the ball and the dropped passes haven’t stopped, and that included Pro Bowler Cutler. How about we stop blaming the QBs and starting blaming the guy who can’t hold onto the ball. And please don’t use Welker as a comparison to Marshall. Welker gets hit 10X as much as Marshall does, and still drops the ball less.
I used to think I had a drinking problem.

Saying that he wants an elite QB? Is it a slight to Moore that he said that? Both Ross and Ireland said the #1 goal is to find a franchise QB, giving a slight to Moore. Why would Marshall saying essentially the same thing be any more of a problem than what Ross and Ireland said?

I think Marshall is a top WR and a player that we need but while he throws his QB under the bus there are other guys
like Fitz that have the same issue but would never say things like that because they do not have the same level of douceyness that Brandon has. We all know what the owner and the GM has said but how that is the same as a player who has to be on the field with these guys is the same I do not know. I see a HUGE difference between the GM throwing a guy under the bus and a teammate. HUGE!

i am just afraid that with marshall making the probowl,
we have unleashed the locker room destroyer of an ego that turned denver upside down. Marshall needs to have confidence and to dominate, but can he do that without being a selfish ignorant fool?

No doubt there are better ways to handle it and there are better WRs.
I just don’t think this situation will cause much of an issue in the locker room because Marshall is essentially repeating the words of his owner and GM. I don’t think it was a great way to handle it and the comment shouldn’t have even been said, but I don’t think it will cause much of an issue for the team going forward.

Probably not but if on the off chance that Moore were to win the starting spot again it could be an issue.
Besides they are still going to be on the same team. No reason to be a douche towards someone that is your teammate or even someone that is not for that matter. If I believed that Moore did not go out and give his all then it would be one thing but I don’t think any of us think that.

he said that he would of had more tds with a better qb passing him the ball.
how is that professional. Like i said… I like Marshal and i think that we need upgrades at QB, but Marshall cost us games with his drops. He is part of the problem and not just the solution. I think that Marshall needs to keep his mouth shut and support his teammates. He may be staring down passes from matt moore next year and we dont need any extra distractions.

yall need too stop the madness
we have two descent QBs. henne was coming around as a good starter. matt moore was way better than any previous backups weve had. bringing in another QB is automatically startin over and wastin another year gettin a “maybe”, ready to push us into the playoffs. i believe we have that right now under the right coaching. give henne a chance.

You start with saying stop the madness
then you try to convince us that the same qb combos that have had 3 loosing seasons is the way we should go?
they have only been a combo for one year.
and they both were in the top half of the league when they played.

INSANITY
that is what you call doing the same thing over and over again but hoping for a different result.
We did not win a single game against a team with a winning record. What about either Matt Moore or Chad Henne’s performance would make you think that either one is capable of being a real QB? They did ok from time to time, but you always saw their colors show when it was the 2 minute drill… or when they got a pass rush… or when they really needed to put the ball in the endzone.
We had [Brady] down… but we didn’t kick him. We helped him up and gave him a PowerPuff Girls band-aid for his knee. What exactly did you expect would happen when we did that?
by Jason Scott_90 on Jan 31, 2012 7:25 AM EST up reply actions
see jason, that is where we differ
there is nothing from last year that to me represents doing the same thing and getting the sam results. The team played well on offense for half the season and great on defense for half the season. We started very slow and it cost us any chance at making the playoffs. I am disappointed that many like yourself are unable to overlook the fact that we are a playoff team had we not started so terribly. We lost 7 games, most by very little and let a few go at the end. We tidy that up a bit and get stonger and smarter, we are in the playoffs and a legitamite threat.
Unforntunately, There are many like yourself posting on this site who truly believe that both Matt Moore and Chad Henne are over rated. THat is your postion and i wont question it. I dont feel that way. I feel that Chad was really on his way to being the Dolphin that we all were waiting for. I feel that we have one of the best back ups in the league in Matt Moore who could start on many teams that dont lean on the pass too much.
I agree that we need a change at QB. THe fans will not let it go until it happens and to me, this is a case of change for changes sake rather than what is best for this team.
The only tru change that i believe this team needs is at RT and Safety. I am happy with the rest and have watched them mature, get stronger, smarter, and better since coming to Miami. I am a patient Fin Fan who knows that there is other directeives that can be met throughout a season that doesnt neccessarily equall a championship. I celebrate small victories and cherrish large victories. Obviously winning the superbowl would make me cream my pants, but I cant let myself be the type of fan that is supoerbowl or bust. Becuase every year that we dont make it, I would look to tear apart the team I love to somehow try and justify my disappointment.

OK... how about this...
Matt Moore did not win a single game against an opponent with a winning record. To think he did anything special enough to warrant staying with him is silly. He looked awful against good teams and when a pass rush came he looked like he did not know what to do about it. He also looked clueless and lost when it came to 2 minute drill. There was no ray of hope or sunshine to make me think that any of that would change… EVER. Believe me I wanted him to be the solution… but he came up short every time. Wasting another year on him would be a mistake. He got a chance to show that he had something, and we did the same thing with Henne the year before. We were stupid to think that he would do anything different than he did the year before and to do the same thing with Moore would just be making the same mistake with another guy, who proved NOTHING when the game was on the line.
We had [Brady] down… but we didn’t kick him. We helped him up and gave him a PowerPuff Girls band-aid for his knee. What exactly did you expect would happen when we did that?

When was he running the 2-minute drill?
Matt Moore played very well in the first half of every game, and then we switch to good ol’ conservative Sparano’s football in the 2nd half.

Yeah I noticed that so much. I remember winning a couple of games and still being pissed because we went
back in to our shell once we got the lead. Some of those games we barely won when we could have walked away with an easy win had we kept our foot on their throat. I am not a fan of trowing bombs with 2 min. to go and up by 20+ points like Brady and Co. will do at times but I do not believe that just because you are up 2 or 3 scores at the half that the game is put away.

It's hard to judge Moore based on stats because of that...
Even still, Moore never did show enough to me to be that he could be a top QB. He showed he can be a starter, but not a Pro Bowl QB in which was the comment Marshall made. Moore is closer to the Kyle Orton, Ryan Fitzpatricks, and Jason Campbell of the QB class than that of Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Eli Manning, or Big Ben. That is why I am fine with upgrading him. If we want to settle for average players, we will get average results.
I’m surprised how some clamor for an upgrade of average players like Vernon Carey, Reshad Jones, Koa Misi, and Sean Smith, but they’re fine going ahead with an average QB. It should be quite the opposite…

Its a result of seeing such below average QB play for years. Now if we have a QB with even a little spark
then we are excited. I do think that he earned the right to go in to camp in an “open” competition if we do not sign or draft anyone remarkable.

Absolutely
I think even if we trade up and draft RG3, the job shouldn’t be his from day one. Even in that instance,I think Moore still has the right to fight for the job. The only way I can see Moore losing out on any type of competition is if Manning or Flynn comes to Miami. Manning would eliminate Moore just by sheer talent and the contract Flynn would get would make any type of QB competition a mere formality and unless he completely stunk in preseason, the job would be his anyways.

Oh yeah. Manning is a given on most teams bar about 3 or 4 and Flynn is not going to be paid
10-15 mil a year to sit on the bench.

And I really don't understand the logic of a guy starting just because

I think the logic is more to the idea that unless you believe the guy is going to be your
starter then you do not pay him big to begin with. You for sure do not go pay a guy a ton more then your current starter to come in and “compete” for a spot.
"Theyas no fawking qwatahback!"-Anonymous Patriots fan at seeing the Wildcat formation for the first time.
I understand the idea of wanting someone to be your starter,
but there are no guarantees in the NFL. Maybe the guy you bring in performs at the level you thought he would, but the guy behind him performs far better than originally anticipated. Do you still continue on with the high-priced guy, or do you make the decision to start the backup that has shown a superior will/ability, albeit in practice only?

I think if that happens then it happens but you still do not sign the other guy to the
big contract unless thats your intention.

ok ... you could be right ...
But do you want to bet another season on something that you did not see? I would love to blame it all on Sparano, but what if you are wrong? We waste another season and let some good QBs go to other teams? So what if we get another franchise QB and it turns out that he is a franchise QB as well. That wouldn’t be too bad.. .would it???

I don’t see any tire tracks on anyone’s back.
So he had a bad year, happens, he also caught a lot of passes, and showed his talent in the Pro Bowl.
Sure, throw him under the bus, then when he becomes a top receiver we can add him to the list of GREAT players we were too stupid to keep.
