It is interesting to know this could help out the homeless to have a place to stay,
but where whould they go to when the season starts?
Its just an effort by lawmakers to make some easy money off the NFL teams
..I read an article on MSNBC about it – if I can find it i’ll post a link.
Basically, because the taxpayers foot the bill for all three teams stadiums, there is a clause in each contract that states the stadiums are to be used as emergency shelters in times of state emergency. Very similar to how the Saints stadium was used during Hurricane Katrina.
None of the teams have ever complied with this clause in the past…though contractually, they are expected to have emergency facilities at the ready at all times in case of need.
If the stadiums dont have the facilities needed at the ready, then there is a hefty default amount of money that the team then owes the state of Florida.
Ultimately, its one of those “be careful what you wish for” scenarios…because if Miami pays out that clause, and then the state actually needs an emergency facility, then where will they turn in that region? Not to mention all of the other charitable benefits that the team likely provides in the region. That money may be great for the state right now, but after extorting it in such a way, if there is a backlash, the lawmakers then have to answer to the taxpayers. Sometimes its best not to bite one of the hands that feeds you.
I’m pretty sure that the homeless have other facilities to go to throughout the state, and not the NFL stadiums, lol. That gives a whole new meaning to “tailgating.”
I love how the Towel Throwers and Henne haters are quickly silenced by the smallest modicum of success. Here's a thought: You'll never appreciate the successes unless you believe and support them when they're supposed to be down. I don't care how entitled you feel that you are to your negativity, a person that boos their own team is simply a jerk.
i fine with it as long as they keep them on the baseball infield.

My love for THE MIAMI DOLPHINS is unconditional...period!
Win for pride, Win for us fans!
God I hope we can knock the Jets out of the playoffs, I couldn't imagine despising a team and fan base more.
Go Dolphins!
Dumbest thing I've heard in a long time
First of all the majority of homeless people are homeless for a reason, and I don’t want them in my stadiums. All this is is democrats trying to stick it to the rich. The reason nfl stadiums get tax exemptions and what not is because of all the revenue they bring in, so it’s bad enough raising taxes now they want the rich to spend more into a sink that in no way benefit the economy just allow homeless people to sleep and live somewhere so hey have less of an incentive to go look for a home and job. Let’s get real this is the dumbest thing ive ever heard of and how this man got elected to public office is beside me. I’m fine with slapping fines on the owner if the game is blackedout because that at least will make up for the lost revenue of the state, but to allow homeless people to live there, absurd. How about they get a job cleaning the stadium and then maybe they can find somewhere to live. I could on for days about how dumb this is but I will go now. Go dolphins
Spoken like a true American voter.
1. I didn’t read the article, but I have strong opinion based in ignorance.
2. I’m really not that knowledgeable about a lot of things, but I know exactly what I think I want.
3. It’s your fault you’re poor.
4. I don’t have a strong grasp of logic or reason.

From my understanding -
It’s a push by some lawmakers to make all of the state’s pro teams pay money back to the state. He’s tried before to find ways to make the teams pay the state money – stating that a professional sports team that can pay millions or dollars a year for players, should be able to pay for their own stadiums. He points out that it’s hard to justify cutting education money, when the state is paying for stadiums.
But, from what I read, the Dolphins/Marlins/Heat/Panthers, etc in South FLA wouldn’t have any money to pay back, because the city already has homeless shelters for the area, and has never asked the teams to use the stadiums.
Sept. 26, 2010 - 2013 Draft Kyle Padron Bandwagon
From what I read,
the teams would be in the clear because the country(s) have plans in place to use the stadiums, even if the never actually implement them.
