2012 Senior Bowl Practices Day 3 - South Team Practice

The Senior Bowl practices continue this afternoon, with the South team taking the field at 2:45 pm. The interesting part of these teams is something Omar Kelly pointed out this morning - the South team has the game's top quarterbacks. Why is that interesting? Because the Washington Redskins, and Mike Shanahan, are coaching the South team, and the Redskins are in the hunt for a new QB. As Kelly said, " Washington, Seattle and Cleveland are Miami's competition for Robert Griffin III and if Shanahan falls in love with another quarterback he might not be willing to give up that much for Griffin."

Interesting.

Well, follow the beat writers' tweets here, and let us know what you see if you get a chance to watch the practice.

apparently Miami interviewed the NT from Washington (Alameda Ta'amu) at the senior bowl indicating that the switch to the 4-3 may not be as certain as many think

according to McShay Weeden is playing very well (by far the best QB)

I know he is old (28) but if we miss out on RGIII, i wouldnt mind Weeden in the 3rd

I think Weeden would be a good 2nd round pick assuming Miami doesn't get Flynn or RG III

I think Miami should still look to draft a QB if they pick up Manning and I’d be real interested in Nick Foles if he were there in the 3rd or 4th round.

At 28 he wont be soild untill he is 30 not a good idea, how did Winkie work out. Despite what other think a Qb needs three years to learn, on the bench or game time, but it is three years in most cases

Considering his pro bowl appearance

Soliai could make some wonderful trade bait. Raiders are rumored to be possibly going 3-4. Package him for a 2nd this year and next, plus a 1st in 2014.

If Marshall keeps Twitter flirting with Cutler, trade him to Chicago for a first this year (another next as well). Package our first this year with the Chicago first, plus a second this year and next to Rams. Grab RGIII. With the spare second, grab the NT (unless he can make it til 3rd, then grab a WR).

Finally, pick up a cheap two year rental WR in FA. Perhaps TO, and prepare to grab another next year.

so two first round picks and 2 seconds to move up 7 spots and lose our best receiver?

I don’t think this is a good move. The points would add up if we did get the trade and we gave swapped the spot gave up our second and Chicagos first. But why would chicago give give up 2 firsts and a second for Marshall who had a season of the “drops” this year. I don’t think they would go for it. As I type this it does sound better and better, but I don’t think Chicago would give up that much for Marshall… They need more help than that, I think.

I am not sure if they'd go for our

perusal, but it would rock if they did. Cutler could aid with that. Marshall is good, but not irreplaceable. Especially after this year. And what better time than while establishing a new culture? And again, we bring in a rental for two years while we upgrade next year. it’s a sacrifice for ultimate betterment.

May not need a rental

If Clydd Gates improves his route running, we’d have Gates, Hartline, and Bess. Not the flashiest of recievers, but Bess is super good slot reciever, Gates is a speedster, and Hartline is as solid as a rock. If Charles Clay’s role improves as well, he’d be a threat as well. I would like this idea, if:

We get what you propose for Solia and Marshall
We instead pick up Manning (who else has done more with less?)

Gates can mimic Marshall

in YAC, I believe. I’m not seeing that physicality factor in his game though, that may be needed to get off the line occasionally and increase initial separation. I think we would still need that gruff revolver receiver.

As for Peyton, I was wild about the idea at first. The more I think about it, the more reasons I find against going with him.

He can be tagged again

And then we’ll get compensation for him. Being that NT don’t exactly grow on trees, teams needing one (a good one in the pro bowl) may be willing to pay, supply and demand.

Someone would give us something for him.
