I hope we don't go 4-3

I think our personnel is better-suited for the 3-4…

Miami's Superstars: Reggie Bush, Brandon Marshall, Jake Long, Mike Pouncey, Karlos Dansby, Cameron Wake, Vontae Davis and Sean Smith (just wait), Lebron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Mike Stanton, Gaby Sanchez, Hanley Ramirez, Josh Johnson, Heath Bell, Mark Buehrle, Jose Reyes, Tomas Fleischmann, Stephen Weiss, Jose Theodore, and Chris Versteeg. :)

I think it's the other way around.

I think we will be even better in a 4-3, especially if Burnett can make the switch to 4-3 OLB.

I read somewhere yesterday that Ireland said we were actually in a 4-3

alignment on 52% of our plays in base defense. I was thinking the same thing but have started to come around on the 4-3 idea. I am now starting to think getting someone like Mathis in FA might be a good idea.

A front 4 of the following would be great:
LDE – Wake
DT – Starks
DT – Odrick
RDE – Mathis

Philbin never said he will convert to a 4-3.

That being said, Jeff Ireland did confirm he instructed his scouts back in December to start looking for players would fit a 4-3 defense. Now the speculation is that Wake will move up to DE, Dansby and Burnett will move outside, and Misi will move inside. That would leave us looking for a 4-3 DE. Miami may also look to sign Merling since he was first a 4-3 DE standout at Clemson and he’d be a cheap option, even for a backup.

Kevin Coyle, if hired by Miami, would most likely prefer to run a 4-3. And yes, this would mean that Soliai is almost assuredly gone if Miami converts.

We have a 4-3 defense.

Karlos Dansby played his best football in a 4-3 in Arizona. Randy Starks and Jared Odrick are both top-tier 4-3 DTs. Kendall Langford and Tony McDaniel also project well as 4-3 DTs. Cameron Wake would dominate as a 4-3 DE. Koa Misi can play DE and also could fit nicely as a linebacker.

I don’t necessarily think Soliai has got to go because I think we could get value for him in trade. But we have a plethora of talent along the defensive line and we have a need at linebacker. To me that says 4-3 and not 3-4.

I agree that we have most pieces in place.

Though I don’t think Langford comes back at DT. He’d be a good price and we already have a solid trio in place. Miami can play a 4-3 or 3-4 (would have to look for a NT, Soliai or elsewhere for 3-4) with their talent. a 4-3 conversion would be cheap too. Miami can resign Merling for cheap and have him and Misi compete for 4-3 DE, but some reports speculate Misi moving to MLB. Miami can also sign a cheaper MLB in FA like Joe Mays and I’d love Coples in the draft. That right there gives us a solid front 7 and I’d be excited about that.

I'd rather Dansby played MLB

since he calls the plays on the field for the defense.

He can do that from OLB though too.

I’d rather have players play where they’re best suited for, not because they can call plays. If Miami thinks they’d be better with Dansby on the outside, then put him outside and let him call plays from there.

Didn't Dansby play OLB at Arizona?

They may have talked about it a while ago

Nolan is sticking with the 4-3 in Atlanta, so they may have switched if he stayed.

4-3 defense?

I’ve heard Ireland direct his people to look at 4-3 personnel. I assume that Philbin might go to a 4-3 if he figures his personnel are more suited to it.

apparently Miami interviewed the NT from Washington (Alameda Ta'amu) at the senior bowl indicating that the switch to the 4-3 may not be as certain as many think

Due diligence

I would expect Miami to interview everyone regardless of whether or not they intend to draft them. Though imagine Miami resigns soliai and he plays DT in a 4-3, and drafts Ta’amu and he plays the other DT spot! Just TRY and run up the middle against Miami!

well, they only interviewed Ta'amu on that day which is why it stood out to me...

I thought we ran a hybrid defense

I remember a year ago (maybe longer) someone posted an article detailing how Mike Nolan was going to run a hybrid defense where players were versatile enough to switch between defensive responsibilities depending on situational match-ups. Nolan wanted to be able to utilize both defenses depending on personnel in order to give Miami the biggest advantage. The hybrid is similar to what the Steelers and Pats already ran/run.

i dont know BUT

i could b excited with the players we have to move to a 4-3 defense if we get reggie nelson at saftey and a cornerback at charles woodsons level….which im not sure who fits that category but we must have QB UPGRADE 1st round or FA

Manning?

I wouldn’t hold your breath waiting for Miami to draft a QB in the first round. More than likely Miami will go with Matt Moore, though Flynn may be a possibility. I think all this talk of manning is just a smokescreen.

that would suck

id b ok if they at least got flynn, traded for rg 3, Ryan T
