Look, I don't mean to be cynical, but ...
Everyone interviewed, except Fisher, wanted to be a HC in the NFL. Miami just happened to have a job available. It didn’t matter to them where they became an NFL HC, they just wanted to be a HC.
Do you think, prior to the beginning of the ‘11 season, the Philbin, McCoy, Zimmer, Toub, etc. sat around daydreaming about wanting to be the Miami Dolphins HC? A position that they didn’t even know was going to be available?

It was an unnecessary did to Fisher, but I did like it.
The difference between Fisher and the rest of the candidates is that Fisher had a CHOICE. Fisher could pick the best situation. The others would have, and in Philbin’s case did, jump at the first offer available simply because their desire to become a HC trumped everything else. Plus, don’t forget about the HUGE salary increase (guaranteed salary no less) associated with being a HC instead of a Coordinator.
The location was irrelevant for these guys. The status. the salary, and reaching the pinnacle of the profession was the driving force.

I don't know if it's that clear
I mean McCoy denied the Radiers a 2nd interview because he wanted the Dolphins job. I think these coordinators can have some say in where they want to end up. Some coordinators decided to stay with their teams then to leave as HC and I’m sure the teams interested had something to do with that decision.

I really didn’t think it would have worked out as well as Ross would have hoped.

I know everyone immediately thinks this is a dig at Fisher -
But, I’m thinking it might be a dig at Mike Zimmer. All the reports say that Zimmer was “too blunt” for the job – couldn’t that bluntness be him basically saying he didn’t want to coach for the Dolphins – just wanted to get the interview so his name was out there?

I was wondering the same thing
By all accounts Fisher wanted the Dolphins job, why then would Miami and St. Louis be the only 2 teams he interviewed with?
With all the information I read on the subject the conclusion I came up with is he wanted the St. Louis job but granted an interview with Miami since they requested one first. He was impressed enough that it gave him second thoughts to St. Louis, hence why he took a week to think about it. I think he decided to stick with his initial thoughts and go with St. Louis.
I don’t look at it as he dissed Miami but more that he chose what he was more comfortable with and that’s St. Louis. Some say Kevin Demoff had nothing to do with it but I don’t think it’s a simple coincidence (don’t really believe in coincidence anyways) that his agents brother is the Ex VP of Football Operations.
