Around SBN: Trent Richardson Interviews Fellow Brown Brandon Weeden

According to the Miami Herald, Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy believes he is the leading candidate for the Dolphins' head-coaching job.
McCoy showed his confidence by turning down an interview opportunity with the Raiders. He'll have a second interview with the Dolphins on Thursday. A source tells the Herald that Oakland brass was "not thrilled" McCoy turned them down. Packers OC Joe Philbin and in-house candidate Todd Bowles are McCoy's competition. Our suspicion today was that McCoy had emerged as the favorite in Miami. Dolphins owner Stephen Ross has spoken of finding his "young Don Shula," and the 39-year-old McCoy has a relatively impressive track record as a coordinator in both his Denver and Carolina stops.

He didn't call the plays in Green Bay...

You really don’t know anything about this guy… he could be worse than Cam Cameron… seriously… its not anyone we know either way…. I just hope it is a guy with some charisma….

thats the same thing i worry about.....play calling and offensive control

he makes me think of a quarterback that you’re not sure whether his greatness is because of the system or simply because he is great….

i’m sure philbin will make a good coach but i like mccoy the more i think about him….i made a fan post talking a little about the lemons to lemonade analogy and i think he may be up to the challenge…compared to philbin, he’s done more with less, from what i have read about the two….

Philbin, McCoy, Bowles all want to be a HC in the NFL. I don't think it matters to them where and it just so happens Miami needs a HC.

Truth is no one here despite their objections or approval knows anything

There are so many previous coordinators that have become successful head coaches. Don’t condemn the poor guys before they give you a reason to. Many of you here including myself were hoping for change. Now you have it and you’re still not happy. Can’t have it both ways. Just give whoever they hire a chance.

The real McCoy?

We had [Brady] down… but we didn’t kick him. We helped him up and gave him a PowerPuff Girls band-aid for his knee. What exactly did you expect would happen when we did that?

by Jason Scott_90 on Jan 19, 2012 12:07 AM EST up reply actions

Is'nt it obvious

Ireland wants to draft RGIII who as we all know is from his Alma Mater. And after seeing what McCoy was able to do with Tebow who shares a similar style of play as Griffin ( but is no where near as good a passer) imagine he would be able to do with RGIII …Hire McCoy and trade up for RGIII you heard it here first. Fingers crossed.

by Phincent on Jan 18, 2012 11:55 PM EST reply actions

you arent the first to think that.

Highly doubtful regardless. I hope it happens ( the RG3 part, not McCoy)

by PhinNoir on Jan 19, 2012 12:00 AM EST up reply actions

what do you know about McCoy?

How do you know he is not the next Mike Tomlin?

Let me also add..

1. the guy is 39… +
2. the guy was part of a team that rode Tim Tebow to the playoffs +
3. he didn’t complain that he didn’t have the QB to run his offense.. he changed the offense to fit Tim Tebow… +

precisely....

he has worked as an offensive assistant, a wide receivers coach, a passing game coordinator, a quarterbacks coach, and of course offensive coordinator……

sounds a lot more exciting than offensive line coach at Ohio University, Northeastern University, Harvard, Iowa, and then assistant offensive line coach, tight ends coach, offensive line coach and then finally, 4 years ago, offensive coordinator (but not in a play calling role) for the Pack……hmmmmm…….offensive line guru?? sound familiar?? maybe too familiar……..plus, no disrespect, but he is dealing with some serious emotional baggage after the death of his son…..can the dolphins count on complete focus?? i dunno…..i liked the idea of a saints or packers OC but the more i think about it……..maybe not……

ok so heres the situation in my eyes

I live in CO so I have been force fed the abomanation that is the Denver offense this season. The team was anemic and could hardly put points on the board. Now ill admit this at first made me say nooooooooo way to McCoy. But the more I thought about it and the more I hear about him the more I think I was wrong. Denvers offense being awful this year was not a result of McCoy but of inneptitude at the QB position. He took what he had and tailored his offense to fit its abilities which is great it shows he knows how to get the best out of his players. This report right here also shows two great qualities, it shows he is very confident which is something our team definitely needs, and it shows his desire. Young confident hungry offensive mind who knows how to use his personell. That sounds like a guy I want coaching. I can’t imagine what he could acomplish with a player like RG3. Ok end rant lol

I was against Mike McCoy

but the more I think about it and the more I read the more I am warming up to the idea. Philbin is still my top choice out of the 3 but I am still scared he will try and bring Matt Flynn with him.

mccoy has already worked with matt moore...

i’m not sure bringing in ANOTHER back up quarterback from another team is the best option either :(

I agree with your first part.

I think the fact that philbins kid passed away will be a red flag. It will worry them. Flynn will also worry them. We need a guy that can urn this offence around. We need it give this guy patience. We got to let him develop a QB (Tannehill). That guy is McCoy.
