Miami Dolphin's Ideal Draft(Trade)

Star-divide

I decided to put forth another Ideal Draft for Miami that includes the RGIII trade. I recently submitted a similar draft not including a trade(linked below). As I have stated before I believe in a potent and explosive offense. Expecially now considering that a team needs one to have any chance to win the ship. So here it is please comment as that is the best part. There will be a links below to other articles I have written all concerning the draft.

RD1: RGIII QB/Baylor- A trade with the Rams to 2nd pick gives Miami a QB of the future which has been long in the making.

RD2: Will be traded to Rams.

RD3: Michael Egnew TE/Missouri- After watching what athletic receiving TE can do I believe we need one. Especially to give RGIII a great checkdown.

RD4: Bobby Massie OT/Mississippi- More depth along line and got to love size at 6'6" 325. Has potential to be starter Day 1. Bye Colombo

RD5: Trenton Robinson S/Michigan State- Ballhawk that is better than Jones and Clemens.

RD6: Ryan Miller OG/Colorado- Good project player. I believe Dolphins will push for Nicks from Saints in FA but can not hurt to have more depth.

RD7: Olivier Vernon DE/OLB/Miami- Good developmental pass rusher.

Quintin Coples if we go 4-3.

The thing that gets me about Robinson though is that he’s only 5-10. He’ll be outjumped by the bigger and more physical receivers. Teams will exploit us there. FS, we need to sign Griffin.

Whoever chose one of the RTs needs to stop

We aren’t going to use another top 15 pick on another o-lineman. We’ll get a LG in FA and draft a RT LATER in the draft, like 3rd or 4th round. No more top 15 picks. Some teams probably have no o-lineman taken in the top 15, let alone 3. My vote is Coples for the 4-3. I do think if we can’t get RG3 that we should trade back and take one of the pass rushers there.

i agree that RT is a huge need

but I would take an elite pass rusher over an elite RT any day

Then we would be paying the highest contract ever to a G, Long's huge deal, Pouncey's 1st round deal, and Reiff's 1st round deal...

I know the last 2 aren’t that much money right now, but in a few years we will have to extend them and we wont be able to afford all of them. Plus, great teams do not need to spent 3 1st round picks (4 if you count Carey) and a huge FA deal to get a good O-Line. We should be able to find and develop some good lineman that we draft in the middle rounds. O-Line is one of the most important things in the NFL, but we cannot continue spending so many premium picks on the line. Especially when we do not have a Franchise QB. If we had the QB, then it would be a different story. I would be all for getting him additional protection and weapons with 1st round picks (like the Colts did with Manning all those years). I would much rather put Jerry at RT because after seeing him play well at the end of last year, I think he can do a very sold job and then we can use this years 1st rounder on a different position.

No vote for Tannehill?

He’s the next best QB available. I might take him.

Tajh Boyd and Dre' Ellington are the future.
Brandon Jennings; Just keep waiting people.

No OT!

Miami doesn’t need to draft an OT in the first round. There are more pressing positions that need addressing, and Miami especially DOESN’T need a DE! The top pick should be either CB, safety, OLB, or WR. But I think WR could be addressed by giving Gates and Marlon Moore more playing time. And you don’t draft a offensive guard in the the first round.

What?

Besides Wake, Starks, and Odrick who pressures the QB? Langford, McDaniel, and Soliai had a combined 57 Tackles and 2.5 Sacks(coming from McDaniel). Haloti Ngata, one person, had 64 Tackles and 5 Sacks. Perspective.

He's think 3-4 DE.

If we stay in a 3-4, we really don’t need a DE.

Trade Down

One scenario I could see happening is the Dolphins not being able to get RGIII, trading down in the #15-20 range to pick up an extra 3rd Round pick, and choosing DeCastro at OG. Move Jerry to RT, resign Carey to an affordable deal, and your line looks like this:

Long-Incognito-Pouncey-DeCastro-Jerry
Carey, Gardner, a rookie, and a low cost free agent as back-ups.

ALL good teams have a solid offensive line. Brady’s line has been great since he has been there, NO line is one of the best for Brees, and Aaron Rodgers was a sack waiting to happen before GB was able to get their line fixed. The Dolphins need to get their line fixed – finally – and then I think there will be some dramatic increases in our QB productivity.

Ideal Draft

Round 1- TRADE down with Bengals at 17. In my opinion, RG3 is too much of a gamble to trade up for. They can get Richardson and hopefully give us an additional 3rd rounder for something in return. 6th and 7th comes to mind.
Note that some of these numbers are not accurate.
1st 17: Melvin Ingram, DE South Carolina
2nd 40-41: Kevin Zeitler, OG Wisconsin
3rd 70-73: Michael Egnew, TE Missouri
Extra 3rd hopefully: Antonio Allen, S South Carolina/ or T.Y. Hilton, WR FIU
4th: 102-104: Derek Wolfe, DT Cincinnati
5th: Ryan Steed, CB Furman/ or Case Keenum, QB Houston
