What Is Carl Peterson's Role Again?

This is from Dave Hyde's article in the Sun Sentinel: "Peterson picked up Fisher in the helicopter with Ross, was in on all the interviews and was the guy Demoff thought should be notified on Fisher's decision."

If Fisher and his agent thought so highly of Ross and Ireland, the owner and GM of Miami respectively, then why did they give their decision not to be their HC to an "adviser" like Peterson? A guy who isn't involved in the so called decision making process? I don't get it.

Could just be a PR move so that the Phins can say that they never offered Fisher a contract.

Could also be that Ireland just got a taste of his own medicine from what they did to Sparano last year.

This is what happens when the media is left in the dark.

They have a column to write and nothing solid to write about.

Carl Peterson is a well respected, knowledgeable former NFL executive that is consulting Mr. Ross during his HC search. Much like I am a technology consultant for a handful of business owners that know very little about technology. I negotiate with vendors all of the time on their behalf and in 2 instances interviewed potential employees for them to make sure they had the practical knowledge to perform their jobs in a timely fashion.

Once I signed off on their credentials, the owners then interviewed them to be sure they would be a good fit in the organization. It happens all of the time.

I agree it happens in the business world all the time. I've done it.

But it doesn’t happen in the NFL. At least I have never heard it happen this way in the NFL. I just seems strange to me that Fisher or his agent would tell the adviser instead of the owner or the GM.

There are probably more things that happen that we don't know.

If I am not mistaken, most of this process is done behind closed doors.

The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is.
