Fisher already is assembling a coaching staff, which might include Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams and Titans linebackers coach and former Arizona head coach Dave McGinnis. ESPN’s Chris Mortensen said Brian Schottenheimer, dropped by the Jets this week, is on Fisher’s radar for his offensive coordinator job.

Brian Schottenheimer?

Thank you for playing Mr. Fisher, better luck next time.

by Maguss on Jan 13, 2012 1:03 AM EST reply actions

If with Fisher

comes Schottenheimer, that makes me want him all that much less! If we get a HC OC group id much prefer Chudzinski + Shula, Bowles + Daboll also sounds more appealing

Swapping Sparano for Schotty?

Screwed either way. btw Have we even interviewed Chudzinski??

whats the difference?

thats the type of OC and offense Fisher wants to run. If he doesn’t get him he’ll find someone else that shares that philosophy.

Why fix something that isn't broken?

Nolan is gold and takes his gold to every D he goes to. He is always top 10 in defense wherever he goes and fisher wants to bring in a different DC? I hope the rams sign fisher and we get an offensive minded HC. I don’t understand all the hype with fisher he is a decent HC but with him wanting to bring in shitty and gregg williams, we can do without him.

by kingmz on Jan 13, 2012 8:55 AM EST reply actions

Greg Williams is okay, Shotty is NOT!

It is normal for a coach to want to bring in his own staff…anyone hear of Mutiny on the Bounty?
But if he brings Shotty in with him, I HAVE to question the soundness of his judgment

How about a comparison between Williams and Nolan.

Williams’ Saints (Playoff team, major SB contender)
Points Allowed/GM: 21.2 (13th), 2011 Opponent’s Average Pts/GM: 22.2; 2011 Opponent Combined W/L Record: 113-143 (.441)
Pass Yards/GM: 259.8 (30th)
Rush Yards/GM: 108.6 (12th)
Takeaways: 16 = 7 Fumbles (T-26th), 9 INT’s (28th)

Nolan’s Dolphins (Torched early on, never an afterthought for the SB)
Points Allowed/GM: 19.6 (6th), 2011 Opponent’s Average Pts/GM: 22.9; 2011 Opponent Combined W/L Record: 129-127 (.504)
Pass Yards/GM: 249.5 (25th)
Rush Yards/GM: 95.6 (3rd)
Takeaways: 19 = 3 Fumbles (32nd), 16 INT’s (16th)

In Depth (Points Allowed):
Both the Dolphins and Saints held their opponent to fewer points than that opponent averaged in 11 of their 16 games played. The difference is that the 5 teams that exceeded their average scoring when playing the Saints (GB, HOU, CAR, TB, ST. LOU) had a combined Win-Loss record of 37-43 (.463). Miami’s 5 Opponents (NE, CLE, SD, NYJ, PHI) had a combined Win-Loss record of 41-39 (.513).
Of the 11 opponents the Saints kept under the opposing team’s Pts/Gm average, the combined Win-Loss record was 91-101 (.474).
Of the 11 opponents the Dolphins kept under the opposing team’s Pts/Gm average, the combined Win-Loss record was 88-88 (.500).

To Summarize, Nolan’s defense outperformed Williams defense in EVERY Category except for Fumbles recovered (Made up for by generating more INTs) but Fisher wants to bring Williams in to replace Nolan. Nolan’s teams faced equally tough (If not slightly tougher) offenses than Williams’ but Nolan’s D gave up a Pts/Gm average that was 3.3 LESS than the OPP Average. Williams’ D on the other hand managed only 1. Williams is < Nolan and shouldn’t even be considered as Nolan’s replacement.
Greg Williams is okay?? NO he is not. If Fisher is insistent on bringing in his own guys even though his man’s system is weaker then Fisher is not okay and shouldn’t be roaming our sidelines. THIS is why I don’t want Jeff Fisher. He is going to take what we have (Good AND Bad) and blow it up to suit his image of an NFL team which will set us back 2-3 years (At Least Defensively).

It doesn't matter how good Nolan is.

It matters that he doesn’t want to be here anymore.

I would also say that the possibility his D is worse statistically....

Is because they are on the field more? With Brees and that Offense…give em a min to score…then let the D play most of the game. Not saying that I know this for certain….but would be interesting to find out if thats a part of it.

I am starting to not want fisher more and more

Dont need to replace Nolan and our offense finally learned dabolls system the last half of the season and looked good why install another new OC and offense to suck half a season again and possibly regress

here is that freaken bad feeling again! watch tony goes to the jets and they take off we get their cadst off oc and we just get flushed farther down the toilet.. thanks alot.. if fisher comes and kills this team then we got just what we asked for.. for being crying whinny babies and not paitant enough to let this team grow.

common sence says if you put a stick in it and stirr if it stinks.. stop.. toss the stick and just walk away.

as my great grand pappy use to say: the only thing you should be insecure about is if your depends wont hold all of last nights dinner.

Gregg Williams is one of my favorite DC's

why would he leave the Saints for the same position tho?
