Uniforms

Hello fellow Fin Fans,

Although this is my first post here on the Phinsider, I must say that I've been prowling quite a bit over the past year or so and really enjoy the articles that are posted and the professional management of this blog. Now that the formalities are over, what do you guys think of the Fins uniforms? Should they keep them or change them?

I like what the Buffalo Bills did this year by going retro and I wish that the New England Patriots would go back to wearing the red uniforms, even if it does bring back memories of sucking for decades, because they look better in them.

So, what about the Fins? I wouldn't mind seeing them go back to the uniforms of the early 1970s. Something classy about the old Dolphins logo and slightly different hue of the colors. Besides having a winning record, might be a way to draw more people to the stadium to watch the games.

What do you guys think?

I like the throwbacks but I don't think i'd like to see them bringing back pemanently...

I like when we rocked em on THanksgiving. I also like the Orange but I think we should introduce a BLACKOUT game and wear black jerseys one game this year

I'm ALL- IN. Do whatever it takes to get Andrew Luck or RGIII to Miami in 2012.

Apparently

The NFL only allows you to have 3 jersey combos, Away, Home, and Alternate. So, since the Dolphins have been pushing the Orange since 03, that’s why they don’t ever participate in the throwback jersey games etc. I like the uniforms, all i would like to see is a return to the grey facemasks, I think those are cool.

The black one's are hard to find, found one on e-bay for marino, and they are very cool.

but the white helmet would not go with it, black jersey, black helmet with outlined aqua, orange logo, and black pants, orange, white and aqua stripes would kick ass !

I actually have a black Marino Jersey

Would love for Miami to come out in something like that

I'd rather update the uniforms and join this century.

Not a fan of our uniforms. Especially the dolphin on the helmet wearing a helmet for a different team…

But if the Dolphins was wearing the Dolphins helmet it would create a never ending loop in time!!!

Plus why do you care, you can’t see above the players balls anyways. :)

I think we should wear throwbacks once a year. I'd like early 90s ones!

They’re basically the 80s ones with a logo on each arm, which I like.

Different Aqua also

Those are my personal favorites, but that’s because I was born in 82.

I want the team to actually wear their home uniforms!

You know – aqua jerseys, white pants. I get that there may be some minor advantage for 1pm home games in september, but otherwise, whats the logic? Tampa, Jax and San Diego wear dark unis at home for most f the season, so why cant we? they even do White on white for 4pm games in december when its dark by halftime!

by Bender13 on Jan 10, 2012 5:18 PM EST reply actions

Minor Advantage!!!!!!!!!

Have you ever been in Miami in September!?!?! :) I think it’s a pretty good advantage considering that it can reach 110 + degrees on the field in the sun and the other team is in a dark jersey/pants combo. Also, they wear the Home jersey’s at night at home and I think that makes it special, every time you see that jersey combo you know it’s a big game :).

Also

All-black alternates please. Black on black with the aqua and orange accents? Easily the best uniforms in the league

I like the idea of a wraparound Dolphin on the helmet

in the same style as the Seahawks, only not cartoonish. Just one serious badass mammal. Couple that with the black uniform!

i think we need new uniforms altogether

And screw black, its not even one of our colors, and why would you wear black in florida heat. No, I’m think a darker aqua, like even darker than jets green, or maybe navy, which is one of our secondary colors. I like the wraparound phins idea though

The black would only be for certain games, ala Notre Dame's green jerseys

And the basic Dolphin uniform colors would remain the same. Only the helmet logo would change and inspire a more serious aspect of our favorite sealife.

You're right

Why would we wear black in the florida heat?

Although, late season night games would be ok.. or that random 70 degree day we get in november ever year.. I mean, it’s not like we play 16 home games in september at 1pm

Even in 70 degrees those would heat up. I would though like them for night games.

Having spent my entire life in FL

And playing football in the middle of the day, the difference in black jerseys and white jerseys is negligible. The fabric makes more difference. These guys are the best conditioned humans on the planet, they better not be affected by jersey color. I think sometimes we over-think things like this.

I don't know. I know when I wear a dark shirt outside even in Texas its heats up really quickly.

Maybe its not a lot but your also not 300 lbs + like some of these guys and every little bit matters to those guys.

I think they should go with the throwback jerseys for home games and maybe a totally different ultra modern away jersey…maybe heavy black with aqua and orange. Not sure what would be aqua or orange, maybe orange trim and cleats or something with aqua logo and number. I like black and orange but it would be tooooo Halloweeny. Geez, I realized im thinking about this way too much and someone is going to question my sexuality……not that their is anything wrong with that.

Black and orange is all about the Bengals

Scratch that idea. The Cincy unis look like they were designed by some big-game hunter on crack. Lets keep the Dolphin colors as they are, maybe a change in the helmet logo and a black uniform for ‘special’ games, like when we decimate the jets.

Black Uniforms = No Good

when playing in the sun and heat of southern Florida. Keep the uni’s light colored.

by Bill Moody on Jan 13, 2012 3:17 AM EST up reply actions

Keep the teal, add some dark blue, and then use the orange as the trim color.

The dark blue jersey I have looks pretty good also. I don’t ever recall the dolphin’s wearing it in a game though.

OR go teal and grey with orange trim.

Lose the white all together. When I think of a dolphin I think of grey and teal.

Great post...

I tried to make a similar argument earlier this season. I’d love for the fins to revamp the uni’s, make the Dolphin a bit more menacing and use some more mainstream colors, like white, blue and grey. While the current dolphins colors (white, aqua, orange and apparently dark blue) hold some historical and sentimental significance with some people, I think they kind of suck. :(
