What I took away from this season... A Phinphinatic perspective..
I took many things from this season that motivate me for next year and left wondering what if... I was very happy with the way the team finished out and disappointed with the way it began. After a 0-7 start, this team finished pretty strong finishing 6-3. We didnt really have any signature wins against playoff teams, but did manage to beat the Jets. The win vs the Jets was a big win for us and may have provided a little momentum for next year along with jamming a middle finger in the face of the Jets organization. It felt great putting them in turmoil and forcing them to consider major changes for next year.
Offensive Line: Grade D
The Offensive line played overwhelmed and under-conditioned. For the first time in years, the O Line pretty much stayed the same all year outside of a few injuries, but failed to protect the QB. The O line improved in run blocking throughout the season and led the way to Reggie Bush having a breakout year as an every down back. The Line would have received and F if not for thier run blocking. Upgrading the RT position should provide a much needed lift to this under average line. I think that this Line is great example of how bad one player can affect an entire line. Marc Columbo should have been benched very early and replaced with Jerry to develop him more.
QBs: Grade B minus
Chad Henne started our season off strong by throwing for over 400 yards in his first start. Henne could have had improved numbers prior to goin down with injury had Brandon Marshall held on to a few TD grabs. Henne's numbers looked average with respect to his TD vs INT, but above average in his ESPN Total QB rating. Henne has lost the majority of this fan base and will likely have an opportunity to show what he is made of for another team next season.
Matt Moore played great as a back up QB for this team. He showed promise, poise, and the ability to come back in Jets game. He also played like a rookie consistently in his inability to get the ball out quick, avoid sacks, too many fumbles (14), and in his accuracy on the short throws. He showed nice touch on many of his deep balls, but failed to hit his receivers in stride which could have improved his yards and TD connections. Matt Moore should return as our starter next year while we either groom a young QB from the draft, or while we wait to make a move on Barkley or Jones in next years draft.
We should also consider bringing in a veteran to compete with Moore in FA if we choose to not make a draft day trade to land RG3 or Luck. If Manning where to come on, then I would look to Moore to go back to his back up role. Matt Moore could be the best back up QB in all of football right now.
Running Backs: Grade A minus
Reggie Bush started slow but finished strong. He impressed me and outplayed my expectations of him. I am very happy with how he competed, showed leadership, and stayed healthy. Feels like we may have a strong RB for years to come.
Daniel Thomas played very well in the beginning but trailed off at the end while losing many carries to Bush as the season went on. Thomas would greatly benefit from a full offseason to work on conditioning, learning the offense, improving his blocking, and in avoiding injury. He is a very promising young man and I for feel like we got a really good back up running back and future stud running back in development.
WR / TE: Grade B minus
Not too shabby considering the inconsistency of the Offensive Line and QB play. Marshall started the season poorly and had a large case of the dropsies. He improved as the year went on and had solid numbers and a Pro Bowl birth to show for it. He did leave too many points on the field with his early season drops and may have cost us a few wins.
Bess had a down year for us. He dropped more passes than I want to remember. He still shows us that he is a very capable 3rd receiver in the slot, but needs to improve on his catching and fumbles.
Hartline is awesome. He made some amazing catches and made Matt Moore look good alot this season. I know Hartline isnt what most expect in a number 2 receiver, but i will take a guy with hands like that all day to run opposite Brandon Marshall. Had Moore been able to hit Hartline in stride more often, Hartline and Moore's numbers would have looked alot better.
Defensive Line: Grade B plus
Alot of QB pressure, check. Forcing turnovers, check. Dominating the running backs, check. QB sacks...ehh. This line played pretty well this year and should be left alone IMO. Many are calling for a switch to the 4-3 and the addition of another pass rusher, but i feel like that is not a major need right now. A full offseason of workouts and some better conditioning and this Line will dominate more next year.
LBs: Grade B
Would have beena higher grade had they played better in the beginning of the season. Burnett made us all proud as the season went on and had a solid year. Dansby started slow, but came on strong at the end as well. I thought Misi had another solid season and i would love to see him continue to get playing time and develop.
Secondary: Grade C
CB play started slow due to injury and lack of conditioning. Vontae improved as the year went on a brought in 4 ints to go along with some real solid coverage. Smith played well this year and brought in a few picks of his own. This CB tandem is above average and should only get better in time.
The safeties are what hurt this team. Too often we saw safeties and CBs get burned on missed assignments. Bell is a dominating tacking machine on the run, but a liability in coverage. He is too good a tackler to get rid of, but he needs to improve his coverage.
Special Teams: Grade A plus
DC$ totally redeemed himself as the year went on and made us proud on that long ass kick against the Jets. He had another solid season despite a slow start.
Fields is the man! 3rd in the league in punt yards and should have been a Pro Bowl alternate. He is one of our best weapons and can flip a field like few in the past.
Kick/ punt returning hurt us alot this season. Gates, to me, was a huge disappointment. Too often he elected to take the ball out of the endzone only to fail to get to the 15 yard line. He showed a few flashes of promise but failed to put us in better field position. Punt returning was average at best.
Coaching: Grade D
It is not easy to motivate a team that starts out 0-7, but Sparano got us rolling with some wins and silenced the Suck for Luck campaign that was aggravating the players and some of the fan base. Sparano had to go after another losing season and Bowles showed some promise as the interum head coach. If we are unable to land a clear upgrade, we should consider bringing him back for next year.
Front Office: Grade C
Ireland had a very good draft in my opinion by landing some players that can contribute for years to come. Pouncey had solid rookie campaign, but still made mistakes. Jimmy Wilson looks to be very promising along with Clay. Thomas will produce much more in future if he can avoid injury.
Ross has consistently left us fans scratching our heads wondering how this guy got rich with the decisions he has made since buying the team a few years back. His coaching search is something right out of a how not to attract talent book and he could use some good advice from someone that is not named Peterson.
Fans: Grade C
This fanbase gave up on this team very early and has consistently expressed their disappointment in this team throughout the year. I am not saying that the fan base is out of line for the way we cheered, but alot can be said about staying positive and rooting in the face of adversity.
Over-all Team Grade: C plus
This team has shown some promise throughout the season losing very close games but blowing too many late leads. This team has a few glaring needs to be filled in the offseason, but will be competitive next season. As a fan base, I feel that we need to back this team whole-heartedly and pray that Ross will eventually provide the players and staff that we need to be put in the right position to win. Whether you believe that Ross and Ireland are good at what they do, it is clear that they both want to put this team in position to win.
Please continue to root, analyize, pick a part, and love this team in any way you choose. But remember that there is a big difference between constructive criticism and criticism. Whether you believe your voice is heard or not, being positive in life seldom back fires and can really lead to more enjoyment from the things you love. A superbowl or bust philosophy is a dangerous perspective for 31 teams every year. There is plenty to root for if you look closely.

I think the F grade voter should share why they believe the team was an F this year.

i think an F is a bit unfair Nicky
Yes we can talk all day long on how we underachieved and made mistakes but we were resilient, nobody wanted to play us at the end of the year and we have alot of good things working in our favor for next year. I was happy about the signing of Reggie but NOBODY could have expected the success he’s had.
F means they did nothing right… Yes 6-10 is a huge step back for this team but we have alot in our favor and we should be a force next year.
I think a C is the fair grade.
I'm ALL- IN. Do whatever it takes to get Andrew Luck or RGIII to Miami in 2012.

Lol @ giving the fans a C
Winning team = happy fanbase.
We should get an A for continuing to show up after that 0-7 start.
We should get an A-plus for sticking by this team during the last decade, when we made the playoffs exactly once.
Fan grade a C.. the balls on this guy lol

thank you
i do have wonderful balls. But i also have enjoyed this season. Many of the fans have been too busy focusing on how disappointed they are to stop and enjoy the games. But like many, you have ignored the fact that we improved at the end of the season and started playing good football. winning 6 of 9 made me feel pretty good. Beating the Jets made me feel pretty good. And last i checked, the Miami fans fail each and every home game to show up and havenet for years. That equalls a F. The only embarrassing thing about this team to me is how little interest the home fans show in the team.

Please
I spent 200 bucks to sit and bake in the random new years day heat (it was close to 90 with no clouds or wind in the upper deck) and cheer my ass off for the team to beat the jets. Did the same in september for the houston game. Sure we played good football to finish the season..except we were eliminated from the playoffs a month in, so what did it matter? This season was a failure before it even started, and you want to call out the fanbase for not shitting unicorns and rainbows about Matt Moore and 6-10?
The way I see it, if you blindly support this crap even after the last decade, you’re part of the problem. If fans continued to sell the stadium out and never criticized, we would never see change. And if you don’t want change in this franchise, you get an F as a fan.
I’m done being called out for negativity. When I have something to be positive about, I will be. 6-10 isn’t that.

Like what? We were 6-10 and fired our coach in week 14.
Were a joke. I’ve had plenty of positive things to say about individuals on this team, but this season and the team as a whole was a huge disappointment.. let’s not forget our owner predicting a super bowl last year.. I find it amazing that you can maintain a positive attitude towards this team when they’ve shit on you for the better part of 10 years..

each fan can define the team they love in any way they choose
you choose to define your Dolphins as an embarassment. I choose to define my Dolphins as a team that good team that did not live up to my expectations. I love them the same as whether they win or lose. I would love for them to be more successful like they were year in and year out while i was growing up, but it hasnt gone that way. I cant control it. You cant control it. So i sit back and hope for the best and root as if every game is meaningful.

Thank you LNick
I think the Phinphinatic should get a D for thinking the fans deserve a C, and for thinking henne was off to a good start.
You can choose to ignore Henne's improvement this year if you choose
but the many fans on this site wrote us off by week 3 and claimed all remaining games were meaningless. I find it funny that the fan vote seems to have generated the majority of the discussion. If you poll the league and look at how we are considered as a fan base, I would wager that we would receive a lower grade. Many ex players, coaches, and other fans still thouroughly believe that the S4L campaign was an embarrassment to the team from their fan base. I have no intention of telling anyone how to be a fan because I guess that is one opinion that is not to be shared around here, but I hated the S4L campaign and can honestly say that nothing had frustrated me more from our fan base over the years.
Rooting for losses is something that i will never endorse.
So it is fine for people to come out and share all of their thoughts and feelings and proclaim how they root for a team. But the minute you question it, you get people who cant handle another person’s perspective on how they feel about that opinion.
If you share your opinion, IMO, be prepared for someone to challenge it. If someone cant handle having their opinion challenged, then i would question why they are sharing it on a public blog.

Ok... You insult the majority of Phin fans and then find it funnny they don't like it.
Are you serious???
You are the chief of the, “There is only one way to be a fan and it’s my way,” club. Then you don’t understand when people don’t appreciate your telling them how to be a fan… I’m detecting a pattern here.
As to over looking henne’s great improvement, he finished his year, once again… with as many TD’s as INT’s. He finished his year with some of the lowest point production in the entire NFL. He finished his year with what is likely the worst 4th quarter rating in the entire NFL, 46.6 if memory serves… And this is what you call his improvements… OK.
You don’t understand the desire to have a great QB like Luck, oh well.
I don’t know what to tell you, as I suspect nothing I say would be understood because we just have very different ways of looking at things, as well as different ways of being a fan. Just for the record, I too think it is at best silly to yummie up a team that so obviously made terrible off season choices. Choices that were so obviously wrong that the opinion of our 2011 season was predicted by a majority of sports writers. At worse, I think attitudes like your prolong the pain because the owner is under little pressure to improve the team if the fans don’t seem to care!
So, for my money I give Miami Dolphin fans an A, just for still being fans after so many, many years of watching bad FO decisions, and constant under achieving play.
obviosly you missed my point
its cool…moving on…

i hear you nicky and i will give you a A+
But I find it hard to believe that a Fan Base that gets called out by the very team that they are a fan of for rooting for losses deserves a little accountability. There are plenty of great examples of good fans on this site who range from critical to overly supportive. This grade i chose was an average and I based it on several factors. When we went 11-5 just a few years back, I saw Dolphin Jerseys everywhere. I had co-workers who went out of their way to express their support of our Dolphins. This year, nothing. Not one Jersey around town. Suddenly co-workers were green bay fans. Seattle has been mediocre for years and they have fans who cause earthquakes through cheering.
I dont want to dismiss our home fans, but you cant tell me that you arent a little envious of some of these other teams who sell out week to week.
Thank yoiu for challenging my opinion Nicky adn Jimbo. I deserve it. I shared my opinoin and I am a man and will defend it. I will not back down and stop posting because people disagree with me.

He does have a point Nicky. The problem isn't fans like you, Chumpa or Jumbo
its that the fanbase as a whole has been more disinterested than they should be. One of my friend is a Chiefs fan. She is very passionate about the sport as I am and she follows the league intensely as I do and we talk football all the time. I was extremely happy for her in 2010 seeing the Chiefs win the division and I was as tense as she was coming down the stretch. She is a great fan and I loved he being able to experience that.
Think of the Bengals, similar story in 2009 and 2011 and its awesome to see their diehard fans experience that. However as a whoel did their fanbase deserve the playoff birth this season? They had six home games blacked out this year!!! They only sold out against Pittsburgh and Baltimore in the last week of the year. They headed into week 12 against Cleveland in an absolute do or die situation and their fans couldn’t even sell out the stadium. Critical games coming down the stretch against Houston and Arizona and they didn’t sell out. Thats absurd. In Miami our owner bought up the remaining tickeets so that we could watch the live coverage on Television because the fans didn’t sell out. You are a great fan Nicky but as a body Phins assessment and grade carries justification.

I know your never going to change your opinion on henne, and the only thing that will change mine is him playing like a franchise guy. Personally, I don’t think he will ever be a starting QB again, as I think most HC’s now know he is not capable of leading a team.
As for your opinion, though different, it is obviously none less important than anyone elses, especially mine. :)
Fan base… I have said for many, many years, IMO the reason Miami fans appear fickle is that there is so much to do in South Florida, so many companies and intrests willing to compete for a fans time and money. You can simply go to the beach and see some of the best views in the world… and the beach is very nice too. :) So if the team isn’t winning, and the ticket prices are very high as are the prices for anything to eat or drink at the stadium, the fans will continue to vote with their dollars and feet. This is just the way it is in Miami. If one desires a more loyal fan base, it is best to root for Pittsburgh or Green Bay. Nothing anyone can say or do will change this, IMO. So, if we start winning you can count on seeing a lot of Phin jerseys, and if we go 0-7 again, you migh instead see paper bags
over fan’s heads, that’s just the way it rolls.
As to any fan base deserving or not deserving anything…. I just don’t think the world works like that. :)
I hope you understand the importance of criticism, especially by the fan base. It is a prime mover in change, IMO.
Henne?

REC the POST...
Nice job on this POST, and I agree with most of it. where I differ…
RB – Bush deserves an A by himself. Dan thomas was below average, that’s what you get with a back running 4.63 in todays NFL behind a suspect OL. Bush made most of his yards due to Speed off the edge and at the 2nd level – mostly thru Heart and desire.
The DL gets a C – average. Look I have never liked this 3-4, and we really get little pressure from the 3-4, Langford was bad this year – Merling (useless) why dosent T. McDaniel start ? Starks, good year (but has been better) Fat Paulie ? Not worth HALF his money.
LB’s – first half of the year they get a “D” second half maybe a C+ – Why did it take Dansby so long to make an impact ? shouldnt we expect more from our best DEF player and and with his salary ? JT – for his age and salary was the best bargain on DEF. MISI – again proved he is average…
COACHING/FO – 6-10 does not equa a C, I think 8-8 might. TS was terrible from the start – only when it was over did he improve his style and open the “O” up a little. they wasted the first several games of Bush’s year.
FO – How much better might we be if they had drafted RYAN MALLETT – instead of Dan thomas ?At least we could have seen what he can do.
In closing – NICKY is getting a bad rap here – and many people think I am too negative as well. BUT HE IS RIGHT …If we put up with this type of FO/coaching and play then we are endorsing it. I do not expect a SB, or even the playoffs every year, but this team has not been EVEN CLOSE in a long time. (don’t bring up 2008’s easy schedule)
It’s so frustrating that this team just can’t get a QB – and dosent really try that hard… always looking for “bargain basement” QB’s… the FANS deserve better than a “C” also.
Most are still supporting this team (including me) through purchases and game tickets, even though MGT fails year after year…..and yea…. I’ll be supporting this team till the day I die…but L Nicky is right on point…

I got a question,....
If .500 is average, or an 8-8 season,….wouldn’t that equal a overall grade of “C”.
So with a final record of 6-10 after an 0-7 start to the season,….they are clearing ( and without doubt ) grading out at a “D” at best.
As for grading the fans,…I only surround myself with the cream of the crop, the diehards, DolFan lifers,…..and we rate an “A+”,…..IMO

Yes
6-10 is not a C, and the fans get an A. Because Johnny Come-Lately, who only shows up when we are good, doesn’t get counted in this vote. The fans who actually follow and support this team should be graded, and I give us an A

the fan grade is based on an average.
of course there are die hards who make me proud to the a Fin Fan at every game and I see them in your pictures who deserve A+++. Unfortunately there are alos plenty on the other side of C who write off this team after the first preseason game, who bad mouth the team constantly, and who allow for our stands to look empty every sunday.
As far as the grading system for the team, i dont think that it is wise to judge a team by its record. By doing that, we would miss out recognizing the good that we had going for us. 62 lou sadi it well above. This team was not even close to a total failure. A disappointment yes, and total failure, not my Dolphins.

I see your point,...
However, the 0-7 start is hard to overlook. And, if I’m not mistaken, the only blow-out loss was to Philly. So, most of our losses were by a slim margin. But to me, those are harder to take then getting blown out. I’ll point out 3 examples.
Cleveland: Fins have a slim lead for most of the game and keep their offense in check. That is until it counted, towards the end of the 4th quarter. Then the Browns drive the field ( the drive keep alive by an ill timed offsides by JT ). Great field position followed and 4 straight plays not gaining a single yard,…..
At NY on MNF: Again their Offense can’t do a thing and their only score is the pick 6 to Revis. Halftime we are behind 6-7, only to get our asses handed to us in the 2nd half.
Denver at home : Need I say more ?
If anybody is an optimist around here its me. And certainly there is plenty of positives ( Reggie & Marshall both over 1000 yards, Pouncy, Moore’s play after settling in, pass plays over 20+ yards, DB’s actually making INT’s). Yet there is enough for me to keep them at a “D”,…….check that “D+”,…..
I definitely think they can make some noise next season with the right coach, signings, and draft. Lets hope for the best !

It is really a tale of 2 seasons!!
Part 1—— Henne + Sparano. F-. the first 7 games, the team was 0-7 and couldn’t fight its way of a paper bag. i don’t want to hear that several games were close. Almost counts with Hand Grenades and Nuclear Bombs not football games
Part 2 Matt Moore and Reggie Bush. the team was 6-3. B+. with almost wins in Dallas and New England!! You felt the team had a future!!
So I really believe the future is bright
so i agree with you to a point
but its hard to accept that the first part of the season’s close losses dont mean anything but the second half of the seasons does.

Wait a sec
With Matt Moore and Reggie Bush the team was 6-6. If not that, then you gotta count the Giants game in the “Matt Moore and Reggie Bush” part and that would make it 6-4.
good point

I gave it a D
F- – - – in the first half of the season. B+ to finish the season.
I got S + What a Dog's Tail Does.
One of them "Young Guns"
C IMO
We could easily have been in the bengals seed if we had beaten Denver,Cleveland and Dallas (I don’t know about tiebreakers)
If we play like we finished from week 1 we will without a doubt make the playoffs

I DO Agree with Nicky
On the fact if we don’t criticize and show our displeasure, the MGT will just keeps things kosher, make no changes, yada yada. So, with that said, I think the owners of teams should be shown how displeased fans are from time to time.
It can be frustrating to root for a team that shows no improvement from year to year and have an owner who doesn’t care about winning, just the money that lines his pockets. U can say alot of bad things about Ross, but one thing that cannot be said, is he doesn’t care if we win or not. He has made mistakes, may or may not be listening to the right people, but he is trying to make this team a winner. I appreciate that
I am a leafs fan, and believe me, it is horrible having an owner who is only concerned with the money that is brought in, lived through it for most of the 80’s and early 90’s. Luckily, I don’t have to live with it with the Dolphins. Ross is trying, and hopefully he gets it soon.
As far as the team, I like what we have, we need to improve, but I think a wild card is a good possibility at the least next year, and thats all I can ask for, is a good chance to be in the playoffs. I like the core group we have, I beleive we really need help on the OL, S, and TE (Obviously QB, but don’t think its our year for our Franchise QB), but most ppl who knows this team thinks that way. I said it in an earlier post, the most important decision for this team will be made shortlty, the coach. We need a coach who will be creative, keep most of the staff we already have, and get us over that hill we have been climbing for so long.
One thing about this past season, it has made this offseason very interesting, we may not be in the playoffs, but we have lots of reason to be following OUR TEAM, keeping my fingers crossed that Ross and Jeffy are getting it right this time around.
To be clear
I dont have a problem with fans expressing their displeasure or frustration. I never have. But like most things in this life there are always ways to improve how we communicate. I think in general we agree on most of your points. Your assessment of the team needs pretty much mirrors my own.

Hey Phinphanatic good write-up and good read. Do you mind if I throw in some opinions?
I have to disagree with your rating of the Offensive LIne. I agree with alot of what you said in the justification for the grade but I think the D is very unfair. So many fans continue to malign the performance of the Line as a whole but without justification.
I am disagreeing with two things here. First I agree that the line improved throughout the season but I also believe that the unit all season is the most unfairly maligned unit on the team.
The second thing is that the “line was a below average unit”. As a whole I would say the Offensive LIne was only slightly above average because of how irratic pass protection was and the glaring problems Marc Colombo presents in protection schemes.
Let me start here. Despite a worse record by one game in 2011 than 2010 I think the Offense as a whole was better. Coming down the stretch of the 2010 season the offense as we all know had some serious problems especially as injuries accumulated. The interior of the offensive line was a serious problem in the running game with Joe Berger at Center and John Jerry at Right Gaurd as we couldn’t conistantly get penetration at the point of attack. Combined with the problems we were having in pass protection predominatly at Right Tackle and two older runningbacks. The result was that teams felt confident in their base fronts applying pressure and stopping the run allowing them to allocate resources to the passing game. Defenses really had two things to contend with that they could’t allow to beat them. The first was Brandon Marshall in the intermediate passing game and across the middle of the field. The second was Davone Bess underneath and in the short passing game. For the whole second half of the 2010 season if a Defense took these two things away, the offense was done. So what teams did is they bracketed Marshall incessantly and used their best corners on Bess (sometimes doubling him as well). They would shift up their coverages and what personnel groupings and double teams they used e.t.c. but those were the things they could not allow to beat them. If their club was able to succesfully eliminate these players like the Browns, Jets (second time) Bills (second time) Patriots (second time) e.t.c. then the offense was crippled. We couldn’t run the ball as I mentioned, we had troubles protecting the Quarterback, we didn’t have any speed (as Dan Henning said so many times in the season and whom I also and controversially believe was unfailry maligned) and as a result we couldn’t force the defense back up so they condensed the field in combination with the coverages they were running on Marshall and Bess. The result was an offense tied for 27th in the league in yards per play, 21st in yards through the air (per attempt which is the most accurate way to assess stats IMO) 29th in yards per attempt on the ground and 30th in the league in turnovers.
So as a result Henning stepped down (as I said though I dont believe he was the problem) and Ireland tried to address these issues in the offseason. Let Ronnie Bown and Ricky Williams walk, traded for Reggie Bush and drafted Daniel Thomas in the second round. Let Joe Berger go, moved Vernon Carey to Gaurd and addressed RT (although unsuccessfully). Drafted Clyde Gates in the fourth round to give the team seperation and downfield ability and drafted Charles Clay in the sixth round to help the Tight End position and provide rotation for Fasano. All were the logical moves to address the team needs and despite some not working out some did. Back to the point about the Line. The Dolphins finsihed the season 11th in the league in yards per attempt on the ground, and slightly better in total offense per attempt and Turnover margin (not too much better becuase of moves like Gates not panning out). Obviously Reggie Bush was a piece of the improvement in the ground game but the larger piece were the moves on the interior of the Offensive LIne and teams that had personnel or schematic issues against the run really struggled through the middle of the season against the Dolphins especially Buffalo twice, the Chiefs and the Raiders and possibly Philly had injuries not be sustained. Teams that are very stout in the front seven like Washington and Dallas held their own.
Sorry for rambling. My points were this. As for Ireland I have no idea where you stand, I have mixed feelings because I think he addressed all the right areas but only some of those moves panned out. My main point is that the ones on the interior of the Line did and that despite problems in pass protection (RT!) the line deserves a better grade than a D. As you said though “I think that this Line is great example of how bad one player can affect an entire line.”
Again good post Phin.

great commentary!
I agree with all that you said. The primary reaon I gave the line D was becuase of the sacks allowed per pass play (which i believe we were the worst). I fault Matt Moore for many of his sacks as he is too slow to get rid of the ball and takes bad sacks. You are probably right and I should consider changinghte grade to a C, but if i were to rank our Line Positions (this season) it would be:
LT: A-
LG: B-
C: B
RG: C
RT: F-
they would round out to about a C- at best. Either way, I feel very confident that Ireland will set us up for success next season as I am a Ireland supporter.

As for Matt Moore I am currently writing my first post on his play. Hope to be done with it soon. As for Ireland I like to hear it . Not that Im a huge fan, I have mixed feelings as I said above but it is refreshing to hear someone who doesn’t want killed or something. LOL.

Im not really big on grading players as so many things go into playing each position
and players excel at some things and struggle with others. If I was to grade out the Dolphins line however all things considered and try to find a grade that encompasses their play as a whole it would look somethings like this for our 5 starters (so not including Garner or Jerrry).
Jake Long A-
Richie Incognito B+
Mike Pouncey B-
Vernon Carey B
Marc Colombo D/D-
It averages a low 80 or more reasonably around a C+. As I said slightly above average and the most unfairly maligned unit on the team IMO.
2008 AFC EAST Champions.
Remember that is 2011 obviously (as you know)
the 2010 season was a completely different scenario as I talked about above.
2008 AFC EAST Champions.
My numerical grades are around
91
87
80
83
60
averages almost exactly an 80 as I said slighly above average.
2008 AFC EAST Champions.
The problem with Moore...
He showed nice touch on many of his deep balls, but failed to hit his receivers in stride which could have improved his yards and TD connections.
He’s got pretty decent accuracy if it’s 20 yards or less. But anything over 20 yards and he throws like ol’ noodle arm himself, CP10.
I think you gave our running game a bit too high of a grade. I would have given them a C minus. Bush exceeded expectations but is still not an in-between the tackles runner. Thomas needs to drastically improve his vision in the backfield. I like his north/south running approach, but if he can’t find the holes to hit he’ll continue to struggle.
I would also drop the DL down to a C, because of their failure to generate QB pressure when it was needed. I agree we shouldn’t change our scheme, we just need a better bookend with Wake, or improve our DEs to take up more blockers.
Overall I’d agree with most of your assessments. Nice post.
I used to think I had a drinking problem.
So I stopped thinking.
I completely agree with you Luvs2drnk about the Dolphins backs
outside of the line about Bush. Reggie Bush has evolved into a very good multi-purpose back and has been stellar in essesntially everything this team has asked him to do. Your points about Thomas are spot on and I agree thta Phin’s A minus is too high for what the team gets from Bush, Thomas, Hilliard and Slaton. I believe Line play in combination with (but on a lesser scale) Bush have been the predominant factors in the running game.
Great point.
