The Dolphins have decided to sign Tyson Clabo. Clabo has been a consistent top-5 right tackle for most of his career. He was a salary cap casualty of the Atlanta Falcons. Clabo's agent confirms it is a one year deal that gives the team the flexibility to move on to a different option at tackle next year. Clabo almost certainly would win a "competition" at right tackle, meaning the competition at left tackle is between Jonathan Martin, Dallas Thomas, and Will Yeatman, which Martin is likely to win.

As noted here, the Dolphins plan on making offers to multiple offensive tackles to have a competition at both left tackle and right tackle. The offers to free agents are either 1 or 2 year deals because of the team's goal of only offering long-term deals to younger free agents.

Per Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the Dolphins hope to make a decision very soon regarding whether to sign one of the four offensive tackles who have visited recently - Winston, Clabo, Justice, and McKinnie - or pursue any potential trade options. Other tackle-needy teams, including the Cowboys, Chargers, and Ravens, are believed to be interested in those options, so continued delay could lead to other teams grabbing the best available talent. Eric Winston is probably the highest quality offensive tackle remaining on the market that has a long history of playing in a zone blocking scheme. He was the 9th best right tackle in the NFL last year, per ProFootball Focus.

Justice was ranked a roughly league average tackle last year by ProFootball Focus - 39th out of 57 offensive tackles who played most of their team's snaps last season, and 16th best right tackle. By comparison - Eric Winston was ranked the 9th best right tackle, while Tyson Clabo was ranked the 5th best. The best remaining offensive tackles are right tackles, so this either a sign we're going to sign a veteran right tackle and move Jonathan Martin to left tackle, or it's just "due diligence" (exploring options).

Per Steve Wyche of NFL Network, Miami is the only team involved in trade talks with the Chiefs regarding Albert. Per Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the Chiefs are asking for pick #42, but the Dolphins (so far) refuse to offer higher than pick #54. As I wrote in my article examining the trade dynamics, the Chiefs very much want an early second round pick to replace one of the draft picks they lost by trading for Alex Smith. The Dolphins appear to be waiting for the Chiefs to budge on that demand and accept our late round pick. With no other teams involved in discussions, Ireland shouldn't feel pressured to cave on this.

Remember my earlier fanshot talking about how a trade may not be imminent? Ignore it. The Dolphins appear very serious about trading for Albert.

Much like how Cameron Wake missed some voluntary workouts prior to getting his long-term deal a year ago, Randy Starks plans on missing those workouts this offseason unless he gets a long-term deal. I wouldn't worry too much - Starks has every incentive to play well in 2013 because his hopes of getting a good free agent deal as a 30-year old free agent next year depend on him having a great year in 2013. For now, this is a form of protest. Per Armando Salguero, Randy Starks WILL attend mandatory mini-camp.
