I am confused about the calls for the double sacking of our head coach and GM.
Firstly, I want to give you a personal perspective on Sparano:
I love the guy. Watching his first season, going from 1-15 to 11-5 and making the playoffs was to me a very special thing, a rare feat in any sport, and not bettered in the NFL as far as I know. Therefore, I have a sentimental attachment to this coach which may well skew my judgement of him.
I like his approach. I believe he is a good man, whose heart is really in the right place, I believe his players will like him and I would love him to succeed. None of that is greatly relevant to whether he is a good head coach or not. I would like to see, however, the calls for his head to remain relevant, in terms of his ability, because he has earned no abuse, in my opinion.
If it were up to me I would not sack him, and neither would I sack Ireland.
Here is the thing that I want to find out about though. To me, if a coach is losing, and you want to get rid of him, it must be because you believe the players he has are good enough to be winning.
The head coach to me is the most important man in a franchise. I believe Chad Henne would be winning were he in New England, such is my respect for Bill Belichick (sorry, but it's true, he is a great coach).
I therefore must conclude that if so many people are keen on canning the coach, they must think that Ireland has done a good job getting players in (for the record, I personally think he is very good) for them to be so upset about how these players are being utilised.
I can not understand why there are so many calls for both Sparano and Ireland to be given the boot. It makes no sense to me.
Make me understand...
