Would you hate Rex Ryan if he was our coach? How about Rob Ryan?

With all the talk of Tony Sparano on the hot seat and possible imminent firing, I know the thought of who next year’s coach would be has been on all of our minds. The other day, I discussed it with a good friend of mine who is a Charger fan and something interesting came of it. He asked would I be happy with Rob Ryan, the new defensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys and brother of the hated Rex Ryan. I instantly threw out my disgust yet had no reasons to back it up. I hate, as many of you, Rex Ryan and always have. I never have found him funny, hate the way he banters on the sideline, and really feel he doesn't know how to coach. However, no one can deny that he has led the Jets to the AFC Championship game in back to back years with a team that I can argue is not much better than our very own. My friend even pointed out that Sparano is similar in his sideline antics, celebrating like we won the super bowl after mere field goals. It got me thinking, if Rex Ryan was our coach and we had similar success, would we still not like him? Are we biased in our hate for him or is he truly trash? Would we be able to embrace a Rob Ryan if he ends up being our next coach? Thanks for your reply and go Phins!

I have been asked this question before....

As I have many friends who are Jets fans, and insist that the only reason I don’t like him is becasue of my allegiance to the DOlphins. Im sure the rivalry has something to do with it, no doubt, but there are legitimate reasons I don’t like him. I don’t like talkers, unless they have something to back it up. THe man has never even been to a super bowl as a head coach. He has never once coordinated a defense that appeared in a super bowl. Yet he pumps his chest out constantly (As if his tits needed to look any bigger) about how great he and his teams are. He is an awful game manager. His teams have on multiple occasions failed to even show up for huge games, like the Monday night game in New England last year and the AFC championship game. His “Vaunted” defense constantly folds in big moments. He is a bully, as is his defense. They dominate weaker teams like Jacksonville, but constantly shrivel up when they get punched in the mouth, like Oakland last week, and even as far back as the Miami Monday night game in 2009. So the answer is yes, if he were our coach , I still wouldn’t like him. Becasue not only does he not win, but he embarrasses himself and the franchise constantly.

The only reason I watch Jets games is to see if TODAY is the day Rex Ryan's fat heart gives out on him...

Ditto

I feel the same way. How awkward would it be if Rob Ryan came? Assuming he is similar (whcih I know nothing about him), how would we feel? I am a Dolphins fan first so I will always follow my team but I guess it is possible to love my team yet hate the coach.

Let this season BE GINN!

I wouldn't like to have Rex Ryan as the coach of the Fins, but I wouldn't mind Rob Ryan...

If they did hire Rex Ryan, I wouldn’t stop following the Fins…I would hope his creativity and braggadocio would get the Fins defense to step up and make a play…

I like what i have seen of Rob Ryan’s Dallas defense…he’s getting a bunch of historic underachievers to play hard, play together, and he uses his personnel really creatively and innovatively…which makes his players passionate and excited to play defense (imagine that).

He also has experience working with Brian Daboll at Cleveland so there would be a relatively smooth transition in terms of staff adjustment and continuity.

Steve Ross would think about the publicity and interest in the team generated by having “good” twin against “evil” twin in the AFC east matchups…

Not to mention...

Rob seems to let his actions speak more about the value of his presence rather than his big fat mouth (Rex).

Interesting Point

I guess I assumed if Sparano left, the entire personnel would be cleared out as well. I guess Daboll has made some improvements to our offense (despite red zone inefficiencies) and may be one of the few who stay on board.

I brought this up in some post a while back (2 weeks or so)

and even made it my sig back then.

I like the idea. I think Rob Ryan inspires his players, and it would certainly bring more than a franchise rivalry, but a family rivalry to the division. I think it would be beneficial to Miami in more then just one way. When Sparano gets fired, I’ll write something up about why I feel he should be our new coach.

I still wouldn't like Rex if he was our coach..

It’s like asking if you’d rather have a pile of crap in your house or out on the lawn. I’d prefer neither, but I had to choose, let the put up with it.

And for the love of Bacon, can anyone answer why Rob Ryan had a model on his playchart? Seriously?

Haha

And on MNF, he had the original MNF crew and various other pictures. Just weird stuff!

Rex Ryan is very good,

but we don’t like him because he goes out of his way to make it that way. He’s like a pantomime villain. We are playing our part by hating him.
One of the things I dislike about people laying into Sparano, is that he is the opposite really. He comes across as a good guy, with all his heart trying for this club.
We don’t want the Ryans, but we might have if one of them had been here first…

i would honestly love to have rob

It would be an interseting matchup when we play the jests, and I’m pretty sure rob is not as annoying as rex.

There isn't a member of that family that is not annoying.

Including their father.

ok but,

Anyone who has a super-hot, bikini-clad model on their playcalling sheet, while fully aware that it may be caught on television, deserves my respect. Honestly, putting my anti-jest bias to the side, I would have been very happy if we had gotten rex instead of sparano, rex has undeniable swag, which is ssomething this team needs.

I would like Rex if he would've been our coach the last few years,

but not if he became our coach this offseason or something. And I am intruiged at bringing in Rob Ryan and would not be against it.

Against Rob Ryan

I bet Rob Ryan would not be ready to install and spread attacking offense. I also suspect Rob Ryan would be just as uncomfortable as Sparano taking just a single chance on 4th down.

The old school conservative approach doe snot cut it in the modern NFL. Let Rob Ryan coach defense.

He worked with Daboll before in Cleveland...

didn’t seem to have a problem with it then…

no to the toe sucker or the dirty santa!!!

do we need to change the coaching attitude in miami, yes, do we want any of the ryans here, that would be a no! rob might be good a being a defensive coach , but head coach, not so much. rex is just a blowhard, with a few good pieces that keep them in it, and a truckload of lucky breaks!

Don't hate me, but I actually like Rex

I like all the trash talk…I think it’s a big part of the game (I loved to listen to Warren Sapp and Tony Seragusa). Plus I think the crowder/porter/Ryan talk from a couple of years ago was hilarious. Technically, I think he’s a good coach – they have been to the afc championship game twice and his players absolutely adore him. Also, even though he talks an absurd amount of s#!t, he can also laugh at himself…unlike another successful afc east coach who seems unsportsmanlike when he loses and makes snide a$$hole-ish remarks. In summary I think Rex makes the game more fun, while belichik makes it less so.

P.S. I also like TS…very different (quiet, reserved, not boastful)…I can respect that.

Don't want either one

No more Dallas rejects and Rex Ryan is full of Bull. We have enough problems.
