Long-Term Solution for the Fins

Before I begin my rant, I want to introduce myself. I'm Brad and I've been reading The Phinsider for a little less than a year and have enjoyed the blog as a good source of reading material about my favorite team and have always felt part of a community that respects each others' opinions.

Now on to what made me finally want to express myself and give back to the community...

What the heck do the Dolphins do now that they've dug themselves into a historically deep hole??

I don't think it's too early to write off the year. That's the reality of the NFL. It's a really short season compared to other sports. If an NBA team started 0-15, do you think they'd make it to the playoffs? How about a pro baseball team that starts 0-30?

The Dolphins should look to the future now and do whatever it takes to get back to a playoff-winning team. What do all the elite teams have in common? An elite quarterback. And a competent head coach (not only does Sparano have a name that looks a lot like a woman's choir, but I'd bet that the players would respond more to a group of high-pitched singing females better than they respond to TS.).

What are people saying about Andrew Luck? That he's the surest thing to become the next elite QB. We have to suck for Luck. I know it's painful to say, but it's the fastest way to get back to making a Super Bowl appearance. Luck is going 1st overall. I'm saying we need to be the worst team in the league this year to have the best chance at catching up to the Patriots, Saints, Packers and Jets (I only put the Jets there because I thought it would make a good joke).

How do we become the worst team this year? Start Pat Delvin (or resign Pat White and throw him to the wolves). Henne is looking better, and ironically that's why the Dolphins should bench him. He is capable of leading us to a 5-11, 6-10 or 7-9 record, good for 6th-12th in the draft, good for another 4+ years of mediocrity.

The Dolphins should also keep Sparano as the Head Coach. He's a lame duck coach and the players will continue to play soft for him, much like his personality. As for looking to replace Sparano after the season ends, the Dolphins need a hard-nosed, tough, in-your-face guy, a complete 180 from the joke of a HC we have now. I think the best 3 options, in order, are Cowher, Russ Grimm and Rob Ryan (not a joke this time; like his brother, he can fire up his team, but in a less obnoxious way).

In my humble opinion, tanking this season (kinda like the Heat did a few years ago) and taking Luck first overall would give the Dolphins the best shot at relevance. I know I'm being pessimistic about the present situation but this is honestly the direction I feel this team needs to go in to win in the long run.
