Around SBN: NFL Players Ready To Welcome Gay Teammate

Is anyine else getting tired of the Tony Sparano era?

Since joining the Dolphins a few years back, it seems to me that Sparano has gladly accepted any and all Cowboy castoffs.  I know that he is familiar with these guys, and a few have worked out for us, but enough is enough.  There are 30 other teams in the NFL we could be scouting and looking into to fill some of our needs.  We have some good trade bait and I bet we could find a suitor interested in a mutually beneficial deal.  I am just a ex-Sparano supporter who feels violated and ignorant after being fooled by one 11 win team a la chad pennington.  Fool me once, shame on you Mr. Sparano...fool me twice, shame on me...

In addition he has apparently taken to play calling.  This is worrisome to me and reeks of potential disaster.  As we can all see on how much a of a bang up job he has done with the O Line (as many of you know he is historically an O Line coach), what would make him believe that he can call better plays than Nolan and Dabol?  These things keep me up at night.

But all of this being said...as a die hard, win or lose, a true PhinPhan, i will support you Mr. Sparano as long as you are the leader of my team...  But i give you shifty eyes and the least amount of respect i can to someone who's job is a dream of mine and many of yours.  Thank you and goodnight!

By the way, this is my first fan post or fan shot or whatever.  Been with the site for going on 4 years under two different screen names....(forgot the first when i changed my email)

Once again, where's the source of this:

When I see an actual source, I will be happy to talk about it. But, just because one person made a comment somewhere on this site, it seems like everyone thinks this is 100% truth. Someone find me an article or a story involving Tony Sparano taking the play calling away from Brian Daboll, and we will reengage this target. Othewise, can we PLEASE stop trying to find ways to blame Sparano for EVERYTHING, including the fall of Rome, the Great Depression, and the housing crisis?

I am not trying to blame everything on Sparano,

I just feel that he is no longer effective as our coach.

He has made a series of poor decisions and his specialty (O Line) is one of our And I
I didnt link it, it didnt happen…fine, who knows i may have misheard it. I don’t recall seeing it posted in any of the comments but it sounds like it was.

I was one of Tony’s biggest supporters going into this year and i had felt the front office did him wrong. But after watching the preseason cuts, the play, the pick up, the out right denial that columbo sucks and is a liability, trying to make bush into something that he isn’t, and the continued poor clock management…. i cant take any more. He really needs to go, and as evidenced by the poll, most of us tend to agree.

I think we all agree with your core point. Mosul is more speaking of the play calling

thing that seems to be more rumor then fact. I am all good with someone being blamed for thing that are their fault or their responsibility but as you know from reading this site once some fans have it out for a guy everything becomes their fault. I actually saw someone suggest that it was Henne’s fault that he got hit in the arm when thrown the ball.

Either way no matter who is at fault for what it’s the HC that is the first one to take the hit. Like they always say it’s much easier to fire the coach/coaches then the entire roster of players.

agreed...

I can find fault with almost every player on our roster at this point. No one is over-achieving at this point outside of Maybe Daniel Thomas. This idea of most everyone playing below their ability falls squarely on the assistants, and other coaching staff.

While I blame Sparano more than you do (he is at least responsible for outbreak of war in South East Asia on 3 seperate occassions)

I completely agree that people need to link this. I have been trying to get an answer for this very question since I first heard it. Not only that, I went through tweets from sports writers (not a fun thing to do) and couldn’t find it. I even tweeted two but got no response (whatever that means).

I have not seen an article about it, which makes me think it is juat a rumor because you know this isn’t the type of thing they would let be.

"The first thing I do when I get out of bed and feel the jolt in my knees is think of Roy Winston. On the second step, my calcified Adam's apple starts bobbing, and I think of Carl Eller. A few more steps in the dark and it's Willie Lanier. By the time I get to the bathroom, I'm flashing back to Dick Butkus and Ray Nitschke. And when the light finally comes on, I just hope that somewhere in the darkness they're thinking of me, too" - Larry Csonka.

I am begining to agree with you...

I have seen Sparano on the side lines and it looks like he is calling some plays, but who really knows what he is doing behind that paper.

OMG

THANK YOU!!!!!!!! I have been thinking the same thing but didn’t want to comment on it because I thought it was something that had already been discussed! Where did this come from!?!?!

by phinhead on Sep 21, 2011 10:45 AM EDT up reply actions

I tried to find reference to it... really i did,

but i have to say that my only source is listening to Mark Schlerith (or how ever you spell his name) talk about it on ESPN. It spoke about in reference to Sparano taking control and winning or losing his way.

Can someone provide one link or stop it already..This is what gets me.

Its all hearsay. Its ridiculous how many people have taken this and run with it as arsenal in more TS attacks. Im pretty sure I HEARD TS order V.Davis to tell the media that they were the #1 tandem in the league as well. And I also HEARD that TS has been running the offense on the DownL0w since he’s been in Miami..Crap,now people will be stating that he really did by the end of the day. LOL

by srtmopar on Sep 21, 2011 2:48 PM EDT up reply actions

I think it all started because someone thought he was calling plays because he was talking into the headseat and had a playchart in hand...

Which means absolutely nothing. I’m pretty sure I saw Mosul socializing with Justin Beiber, but I don’t want to jump to conclusions… yet.

No Dolphins coach can survive a losing record.

Sparano is now .500 (25-25) for his tenure with Miami.
2008: 11-5
2009: 7-9
2010: 7-9
2011: 0-2

Another 7-9 season would leave Sparano at .500 but he would still likely get the ax. Start piling up some wins Tony or start packing your bags. Please note I am pulling for the wins.

Pile up some wins PLEASE

I’ve been a supporter but it’s starting to turn. He’s deserved some patience for a lot of reasons. We are in a very tough division. This is his first head coaching gig in NFL (Just look at Belicheks history, didn’t get it right until second gig). Parcells had some good ideas, but was outdated and too heavy handed, and his ego burnt a lot of bridges, making the job harder for our Bifecta IMO.
When Tony has made changes, they’ve been good ones (hiring Nolan, Daboll).

The Texans have arrived, and they did so by letting their coach go through his growing pains. This is truly Tony’s first year completely in control, and even then he has Ross/Ireland screwing him over (Harbaugh) and a lockout. I’d hate to run a guy out of town that could just need some patience from the fanbase and ownership.

On the other hand, I hate seeing us beat ourselves. That has been a constant theme and I can’t deny it. And unfortunately that largely points to coaching. Is it a good coach learning the ropes? Or is it that he just simply isn’t HC material?

Now remember, back to Belicheat, he stunk it up in his first gig, and he isn’t exactly a people person and his monotone flatness with the media, etc. reminds me a lot of Tony. Belicheat has always remarked that he considers our team very well coached………….

Which one is it? Aaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggghhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!

Belichick was not a great coach

until he got a great QB! He was 5-11 in NE before Bledso got hurt and Brady came out of nowhere, Hall of Fame QB’s make a lot of coaches look like geniuses.

Bilichick

is a great coach and is the best because of his ability to get every last bit of talent out of his players. He keeps them motivated, keeps their desire high, stock piles draft picks, knows when to jettison old wore out players, and wears sleeveless hoodies! What is not to love about this guy?

Have the Texans really arrived?

Or is Miami just really that bad? Both are distinct possibilities given that Miami can’t get it done in the red zone and The Texans only other opponent was a Manningless Indy… Way too soon to tell how good or bad the Texans are. And, yes, it is still possible that we are good too, but failing to convert on four trips inside the 10 doesn’t really point towards Miami being good.

I've supported TS from the beginning. I don't care much for Ireland though for the past 1 1/2 years.

Watching TS’s last 2 press interviews. IMO he is done. I can’t defend him anymore. He looks like a guy that has had his heart carved out with a wooden spoon. Belichick was known for being a Defensive Genius before he coached at the Browns. So he had some street Cred. before Brady came along.

The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is.

Agreed

TS outdid his welcome after last years season. But Steven Ross knows almost nothing about football and it showed by the way he handled things during the off season. One more loss or mediocre game and I would be on the phone with Jeff Fisher or Bill Cohwers Agents. Two more games and I would have the private jet filled with fuel and the contracts filled in.

Belichick is an outstanding coach, him and Brady make the perfect duo

Look wat bb does with his formations, multiple tight ends that are as fast as wr so u don’t know wether they are going o run or pass out of the formation, their oline regardless of who is in there gives brady enough time to file his tax return, make a sandwich, update gis facebook page and throw a 20 yd out route. Their running out of the spread with guys who hide real well behind the line woodhead, welker, Edelman, their defensive players are all smart and have a great understanding of schemes, they are just a great organization from top to bottom, and I hate Brady’s guts because he’s such a nerd and a tool but he is one of the best ever to play

So true. Also a lot of his genius comes from his ability to fashion the perfect game plan.

Sure sometimes he gets it wrong and sometimes is surprised by the thing no one could see coming (see Wildcat) but for the most part gets it right more often then not.

One problem with that Argument!!! MATT CASSEL

The Tom Brady argument sounds great until you look at what happened when Tom Brady was injured and Matt Cassel was called into action. Cassel was A SEVENTH ROUND PICK WITH LITTLE COLLEGE EXPERIENCE!!!

His record 11-5 !!!!!!!

by DAVEBUCK on Sep 21, 2011 1:15 PM EDT reply actions

and he took the cheifs to the playoffs last year

with a pretty good qb rating and a great td to int ratio. Matt Cassel is a good QB who just happened to be on the bench behind Palmer and Lienhart in USC and Brady in New England. It doesn’t show that much of being a great coach. The Dolphins went 11-5 with Fiedler and no one claims Wannstedt is a great coach.

Not sure if I'm sick of the T.S. era, but I dont understand it, and Im sick of that!!

Coaching is like being a QB, It takes time to learn how to do it right. Now I truely feel he has the best intentions, but not sure he knows what they are. One thing I can say is most of his players love him and thats huge, but I think he needs to learn more ins and out of the game. Mr. Bill brought him in here so he could control him, now T.S. is a puppet with no master. In time he will be a very good coach, I just dont think he will be with the Fins when that happens.
